Ah, good ole Wilma.   A timely reminder why I'm so glad to not be broadcasting anymore.....

This game was sad, sad, sad.  If Wilma can't even find a QB, why are they playing football?  The broadcasters said this kid was a wide receiver until this week???  His first start at QB is against the #1 defense in the nation?  How many plays could he even learn in a week?  OMG!!  Wilmington, save your money and start a chess club or something.

Sorry if I offended anyone with this post.

Mitchell played QB last week at BW, so while not his first snaps there it's pretty close to that.  While we're on that...BW was tied 7-7 at half with THAT Wilm team?!  21-14 final?!  Lowry relieved Scott today with 9 minutes left in the SECOND QUARTER today!  Then BW hammers Ott today.  Talk about Jekyll and Hyde in Berea.

I was thinking the same thing. Wilma (don't care if anyone is offended by that term - it was earned today) is terrible. I don't care who you play against but when you average (-2.4) yards per rush - and only gave up one sack - you have to wonder if football is the sport you should be investing in. I am not saying this to bash the Quakers - just look at their box scores. They had 7 ball carriers register a carry today and their leading rusher had (-2) on 2 attempts. Every back that touched the ball had negative yards. If I am the President of the school I start looking for another conference. Since coming to the OAC in 2000, Wilma has 1 winning season (7-2 in OAC in 2000) followed by a 4-5 OAC in 2001 and its been downhill from there. They have 1 conference win in the last 6 years and the win they put up this year against Bluffton was the first since a 2012 win against Etta. Call me crazy - been called worse - but I wonder which Mount grad takes that team on? Worked for Berg and ONU has done alright as well. Who knows.

reality check

The highly touted RJ3 kid got his first start at ONU today and he didn't disappoint based on the stat line.  Wonder if Freed got hurt or what prompted the change.  I'm out of the loop.

I hate to admit that when I saw the headline "Mount hits 100," I thought that they had scored 100 on Wilmington.

Can you imagine the scores if Mount played the starters all 4 qtrs and didn't attempt FG on first down inside the 30?

I have to respect the Wilmington kids for even taking the field every week knowing the eventual outcome.  Perhaps a change of conference would put them in a better situation, but the factors involved in changing are very difficult.  First, someone has to have room or want them, then travel becomes an issue, plus many other decisions and discussions have to take place.  I would like to know Pat and Keith's opinion on what conference may be a good match for them.

I just wonder how many players would continue to go out and get hammered every Saturday.  That takes character and guts, sometimes more character and guts than someone who wins even 50% of the time. So, I give them a thumbs up and hope they stay healthy and don't lose their love for this great game.

I would think if that's what they chose the best fit is where they came from...the HCAC.  I have no idea why they left so maybe it's not even an option.  It would certainly be better for their football program today though.  They're 1-50 in OAC play since 2010.  We have to remember though that Berg was nearly that bad prior to Hallett and I'd argue that Wilm geographically is better off than Berg for recruiting.  Someone has to finish last, but I just wish those bottom teams were at least somewhat competitive.

Sounds like you guys have parity - the OAC definitely lacks that. For you BW fans out there - it is not "pair a D". And no it doesn't mean you are ineligible.   ;D ;D

BTW - the winner of the BW - Otterbein game tomorrow remains in 2nd place in the OAC. Both teams along with JCU are all 4 - 1 in conference.

OMG. Halloween early.

Your last sentence is key. In a 10-team league that plays 9 league games, there will always be a couple of 1-9's and 2-8's, but the hope is that everyone has a large enough roster and sufficient talent to make the games competitive. Probably a bridge too far to hope that the bottom 2 or 3 teams can compete with Mount, but can they get some first downs? Score a TD or two? Get a stop every now and then?

Since Mount is so far beyond everyone in the OAC, I'd be looking at the results for Wilmington and Marietta against the BW/ONU/Heidelberg level. If they're getting run off the field against even the middling OAC teams, that's when we have a true "this team doesn't belong in this league" problem.

Norwich in the Empire 8, Western Connecticut in the NJAC are good examples from the 2000's. They were not just struggling to win games; they were getting blown off the field almost every week (discounting Norwich's one year Pierre Garçon Experience).  North Park was looking the way in the CCIW for a long time but the Conway era has brought some hope that the Vikings can become at least a middle-class citizen there.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...
