Interesting ....

I'm not a big karma guy --  I'll spread it from time to time to the usual suspects  who brighten this board -- and  hadn't posted in a long time.

But somehow I have steadily lost one karma point a day over the past two weeks? Is there a serial hater out there?

Most of us seem to have someone out there who wants to keep us humble; some of us seem to have more than one.  Now me being a target I can understand, but when I see JJR getting dinged on a regular basis, that just makes no sense.   +k to all.

It's not easy being us, Repete. The forces of evil are always at work, to the extent of going back several pages to make sure no one was missed on the midnight rounds. (Unless, of course, you're Karma King BlueDevil Bob-even the haters love him)
That's why all the good guys get a daily  + dose from me.

P.S. Due to the groundswell of ppublic opinion, I do hereby proclaim next week to be MIAC Beaver Joke Week. Shave 'em if you got 'em.

[My weekend plans have gone into shambles.

Long lost cousin of wife of BDB appears and so wife takes off to Small Falls, leaving me with the kids for the weekend.

SJU/Stout hockey game tonight in peril.
Stout/LAX doubleheader basketball games Saturday in peril.
Taking/picking up 2nd Grade girl to/from a birthday party now in the mix.
Take 2nd grade daughter along for son of BDB's hockey games Saturday and Sunday.

The damn cousin should have picked a different weekend to reappear.  :-\

When my kids were young we had these things called babysitters.  They come to your house and stay with 2nd grade girls so the parental units can go to hockey and basketball games.  If they're old enough they can even drive.  They must have these in WI, too.

And today's nominee for father-of-the-year goes to David Mantor.

See what happens to good Minnesota boys when they go to Wisconsin?

Now he could've used a babysitter. Or maybe he was out trying to find one?

tmert, after waiting 17 years to have kids, we've never used a babysitter.

One time my sister watched them for 2 hours, that's it.

fins, those must be some awesome strippers in Houlton!  :o

Apologize if this has been posted already. Looks like the UST job is down to 4 candidates:

Gordy Shaw, former University of Minnesota offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator

Jim Zebrowski, offensive coordinator at Wisconsin-Whitewater (2007 NCAA
champions) and former head coach, Lakeland (Wis.) College

Steve Ryan, head coach at Morningside (Iowa) College

Glenn Caruso, head coach at Macalester College

As someone who is not a Tommie fan, Caruso is the one on the list who scares me.  He is an awesome coach, and a really good guy who I think could really make use of St. Thomas's many resources and selling points

Sumander you steal my thunder again!!!  ;D

Re: Caruso-- Not to mention I would hate for Macalester to lose him.  He seems to have the MAC program on a course that will someday rejoin the MIAC.  I won't say it will happen in the next two years, but I don't think five is beyond question.

Shaw would be an interesting choice-- he can bring some real name dropping to UST, but I have no idea as to his head coaching experience. The other coaches all have been head coaches elsewhere and have all somewhat proven their mettle.  I don't know much about the Ryan character, who seems a little out of place on this list-- is he a Tommie grad?

Good grief, BDB, what other healthy All-American experiences have you denied to your children? ???  I can't imgaine depriving my children of the right to bid Mom and Dad adios for an evening, not to mention the positive benefits of social interaction with the babysitter.

Ryan is a 1989 graduate of Wheaton College in Illinois, where he was a four-year letterwinner and a three-year starter as a linebacker

A tradition unrivaled...

From Sir Sid:

Tommy Becker, the former Wayzata linebacker who left the Gophers football team, is reported to be heading for the University of St. Thomas

Question of the day: Is this kid going from bad to worse or worse to bad?

Becker was a Scout.com Two-Star & Rivals.com Three-Star recruit from Wayzata, where he was named the top LB in the state following the 2005 season.  He also looked seriously at Iowa State, in addition to Ohio State, Notre Dame and Oklahoma, before choosing the Gophers.

At the U, he switched from LB to DE (briefly) to FB, redshirted in 2006 and played in 4 of 6 games as the backup FB in 2007 (0 catches, 0 carries) before leaving the team in October.  He stated his reasons for leaving as philosophical differences with Tim Brewster and a desire to return to LB.  After leaving the U, some speculated that he could wind up back at Wisconsin as a LB.

If he does end up at St. Thomas, I'm sure they'll be able to find a spot for him.  Unfortunately for the Tommies, the fact that he would be an upgrade at pretty much any position on the team doesn't bode well for their 2008 prospects.

The phantom smiters are hitting all of us but cheer up. Think about how life would be living in their skin.

Well, not all of them are phantoms.  I stuck a fork in the WAIC cheese eaters and they hammered me good.  I always say, if you're not a target then you're not getting to them.

If you can get Steve Ryan I would take him.  When I was a senior in high school he came down to recruit me.  Morningside had nothing but a JV program and was coming out of some major turmoil.
He told me and they would win a conference championship and contend on the national level.  Well my senior year of college Morningside was on a tear before they ran into Caroll College in the semis of the national playoffs.
I do not know much about the other guys, but just by 2 cents worth a push for Coach Ryan.

from sportspickle.com:
BCS commissioners propose 2-team playoff
Facing mounting pressure to change the current BCS Championship format in college football, the BCS commissioners offered a compromise today, proposing at two-team playoff system that could be implemented as early as next season.
"This isn't the four or eight-team playoff that some people want," said Ohio State president Gordon Gee. "But it is a fair compromise. We're going to put the two teams in a bracket. A friggin' bracket, people – okay? Isn't that what everyone wants? Now please stop complaining."
The new BCS Tournament will choose the tournament participants with a selection committee in order to be even more like the popular basketball NCAA Tournament model.
"It will be just like the NCAA  Tournament committee," said Gee, "only the final decision will be made by the BCS computer. Again, a very fair compromise on our part."

As long as the Buckwheats continue to choke in the "title" game, I think Gee should be seen and not heard from.
