NPU's first scrimmage is Monday night, at home against Benedictine. Should be interesting, as Benedictine returns a couple of double-digit scorers from last season, to say nothing of it being former North Park assistant coach Steve Schafer's first trip back to the crackerbox since moving on to BU last spring.

Other than a possible salary increase, Schafer's move from NPU to BU is still a little puzzling to me. Any info as to what might have been behind the switch? I was also under the impression he lived in the city.

To: Wheaton.Thunder.  You actually think all that Wheaton has is Ben Panner.  Go to a game then and see!

CCIWFAN3

I will go out on a limb and say that Tim McCrary is the most athletic 4 in the CCIW.
With his stats last year as a freshmen...when he didn't get a lot of touches...and he grew and inch.  There will be more on Wheaton than just one player.   You'll see.

CCIWFAN3

McCrary avg. 6 shot attempts a game and still avg. 9.1 points per game.
With Wiele and Raymond gone that opens up 25+ shot attempts/game.  There will be several players who step up for Wheaton.  It's a new era.

IWU's John Koschnitzky and Wheaton's Tim McCrary – both athletic 6-6 "combo forwards" – had very similar freshman seasons...

John Koschnitzky (2009 CCIW-only)
(14 CCIW games...started 11...24.5 min/game)

9.4 ppg
4.8 rpg
48-93 FG (.516)
13-28 3-pt (.464)
23-32 FT (.719)
10 assists/18 turnovers

Tim McCrary (2009 CCIW-only)
(14 CCIW games...started all 14...25.4 min/game)

10.1 ppg
5.0 rpg
58-98 FG (.592)
0-0 3-pt
26-37 FT (.703)
24 assists/26 turnovers

They have different skill sets, but very similar in a lot of ways.  I think both are "breakout" candidates this season.

I highly doubt that Wheaton will win the conference.

I am going to do something on this chat that I never thought I would have to do and agree with someone against Wheaton. Wheaton's only REAL asset this season is Panner. I think that day in and day out he is the only player giving 100 percent of himself to the team goals. There would be no other reason to play as a 5th year if not to compete at the highest level.

"However, if I am candid, this team has not shown the day in and day out commitment to practice at the intensity level necessary to compete in this league. This league shows no mercy. You bring it every night or you lose." Mike Schauer

I fear that this is more the reality and it will be immediately obvious when the season begins. I had more optimism for the 2005-06 season than I do for this one. Still I love CCIW Basketball and it will still be a wild ride to enjoy watching and following.

You're also forgetting about Division I transfer Aaron Garriott, who is a very athletic and big (6-3) combo guard.  Garriott averaged 8.9 points last season at SIU-E.  As a senior at Bloomington Central Catholic, he averaged 20.4 points and 5.6 assists.

Garriott isn't Kent Raymond, but he's going to be really good in the CCIW.  Video highlights of Garriott from a CCIW floor near and dear to my heart...

wheaton.thunder

the one problem right now is Garriott is nursing very unhealthy knees and may never be 100 percent again. McCrary has the potential but I am afraid that he will never live up to it.  Carwell has potential but he cant stay focused, he daydreams too much. Jahns is the same. Most of these young men are more concerned about their "fat little girlfriends" than leaving it all on the court for Wheaton Basketball. IMHO

They may also be concerned about having a discussion with you regarding your description of their girlfriends!   :D   :o   ::)   :(
