Tonight, the champagne is flowing in the Transylvania locker room, as Transylvania has just defeated Wash U at Wooster, OH to become the new champion.

Transylvania's first defense (of this current title reign) is tomorrow as Wooster is playing in the second game to try to become the next challenger.

Update:  Wooster will be the challenger.

If I'm not mistaken Transylvania has had the belt before.

Transy v Wooster tomorrow.........so the belt will remain in the NCAC for the remainder of the season, or the HCAC with one chance to go outside with a game at Maryville, Tn.

Transy won The BeltTM last year on Jan. 17th when they took it from the Anderson Ravens who only managed to hold onto it for 2 weeks after taking it from Elmhurst.  If Transy gets past Wooster tomorrow and then Defiance on Jan. 6th Anderson could possibly return the favor by knocking off Transy on Jan. 9th Here is a list of The Belt'sTM travels since the start of the 2008-09 season:

Start-Dec. 19 - Washington Univ.
Dec. 20-Jan. 2 - Elmhurst
Jan. 3-Jan. 17 - Anderson
Jan. 17-Feb. 10 - Transylvania
Feb. 11-Feb. 20 - Franklin
Feb. 21-Feb. 26 - Defiance
Feb. 27 - Franklin
Feb. 28-Mar. 5 - Transylvania
Mar. 6-Mar. 19- Guilford
Mar. 20-Dec. 28-Washington Univ.
Dec. 29-Present-Translyvania

Transylvania (now 8-2 in BeltTM play) joins Virginia Wesleyan and Guilford as the only teams to be three time champions.

The Belt TM is no stranger to the HCAC; it spent 62 days traveling the nation's heartland last winter.

Wooster will get their first shot at the BeltTM tomorrow. If the Scots win, they'll become only the 2nd Great Lakes team (Carnegie Mellon '08, 2 days) and first NCAC team to hold the honor.

Whew! No offense to Wash U Bears, but I was getting a little bored with the whole thing.  Finally we see some true BeltTM action.  Congrats to Transy! (which is the exact same thing I said about my uncle after sex change surgery)

Sorry about the recycled image.  Haven't got my new software to replace the glitched old stuff.  Santa didn't put any in my stocking.  Hats off to Transy, they played great perimeter defense, shot the ball very well and controlled the tempo.  Will the The Belt tm rattle around the HCAC or the NCAC for awhile?

Only in Division III would a fictious item like this get this much interest!  ::) ;D :D ;)  I love this stuff!

Ficticious?  OS, you need to clap your hands and repeat, "I do believe in the BeltTM! I do believe in the BeltTM! I do believe in the BeltTM!"

Louder. LOUDER! CLAP LIKE YOU MEAN IT!

Only then will the bauble fairy visit your house and leave NCAA-approved team merchandise under your decorated basketball hoop.

Wooster drives a stake through the hearts of Transylvania and seizes the BeltTM, 75-65.  The Scots will now hope to parade the BeltTM through some of the unlikeliest places for a championship BeltTM in D3, places like Oberlin (Jan. 20) and Earlham (Feb. 20, god willing).  First up, however, the Scots will put the BeltTM up against the SpeedoTM when Wooster hosts Kenyon on Jan. 9.

Ohhh! Do I really want to see the BeltTM worn by some SpeedoTM clad Kenyon player?   :o

You know you do Ralph, you know you do.

Just keep my BeltTM away from that swimming pool when you go to Kenyon.  The water will crack the leather!

I guess there would be no point in having a D-III swimming championship belt, would there?

No, but what about a traveling D-III championship Speedo...?  Swim cap?  Nose plug or snorkel?

You'll all be interested (and flabergasted) to know, Denison won the NCAC Men's Swimming Championship last year over Kenyon.  But Kenyon won the NCAA Championship, their 30th in a row.
