Hi,

I'm new to the message boards. This is my first post. I joined because I am looking for the right D-3 football program for me. I live in Southern Illinois, and I've searched for schools in the Illinois and Missouri area, although I'd travel further.

I was please to find the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Some of the small schools in the Conference, MacMurray and Eureka mainly, appeal to me because of their size. I'm really looking for a glorified high school to continue my football career at. I was disappointed, however, that none of the schools offer night games.

I know that the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference offers night games, but the schools seem bigger and more competitive than the ones in the SLIAC. I know there are some knowledgable D-3 Football fans here, so I came here for help. Are there any small schools that play Saturday night games?

Several ASC (TX, LA, MS) schools play night games.  "Glorified high school" is probably not possible in the top 3/4's of the conferences.  With rare D-1 recruit exceptions, 22-yr-old men are just more mature than 18 yr old boys.

I know that there are lights at every ASC team's home field.  Several schools play several games at night during the season.

The calibre of play in the ASC is "Top 5" conference and comparable to the OAC, CCIW and WIAC.

What are your priorities?

You have to decide what things are most important to you. What will you do if you find a perfect place to play football, but it doesn't have the academic programs you want. Or vice versa!

Cost is another consideration. Make sure you talk to your parents about what is affordable and learn what kinds of financial aid and/or academic scholarships you might be eligible for.

The best source of information is for you to actually visit the campuses--you should probably research their websites first to narrow down where you will look. Talk to faculty and talk to the players and coaches. My son loves playing football, but he understands that it will only last another year--then it will be his degree that counts.

Quick,
The most informative place to have this discussion might be on the Parents With Kids Looking to Play D3 football Thread, which is here.

Although you're not a parent, that thread is specifically set up for anyone who's brand new to D3 football, to learn the ins and outs.

Good luck, and happy hunting. The D3boards community is usually glad to help.
