St. Thomas won and dropped, while Oshkosh lost and moved up. Of course that all has to do with Oshkosh taking UWW down to the final minute, and St. Thomas having troubles with C-Moorhead. Both UWO and C-Moorhead could have easily both won on Saturday, and it looks like the voters took that into consideration. Good work!  ;D

I think that's what....3 years in a row now where the Cobbers suffered devastating last-second loses?

2014 - Bethel (might be the craziest ending to a game I've ever seen)
2015 - Gustavus Adolphus
2016 - St. Thomas

Yea, I think it was an oversight (by that individual), rather than something intentional.

Not munch change in the top half of the poll this week. However, after a very strong showing at home against UWW, UWL rose to #10 in the poll (after receiving just 2 points the previous week). *It's hard to argue against that.

*I must admit though, I gave UWSP the lone vote, while leaving UWL off my ballot. I still think UWSP is the - slightly - better team. They have a chance to possibly prove that this weekend at UWW (potential upset alert). Then again the following weekend when Point goes to La Crosse.

I raised this on the D3 Fan Poll as well. What if UWW has come back to the pack a bit, rather than UWO, UWP and UWL, for that matter, having risen closer to the UWW we have seen recently?

That's a legit question, and I usually hate this answer when it's given to me, but I think it really applies here. So I'll say it:

It's both I think

UWSP, UWL, UWP and UWO all just annihilated their non-conference opponents. Which is something you don't normally see from mid range WIAC teams like UWL or UWSP. UWL beat Luther last year by 7, this year by 31! Last year UWSP lost to Albion by 13, this year they won by 37! They usually do well against non-WIAC teams....but never this well. UWW did beat 3 top 10 teams in a row, not sure what else they need to do to prove themselves.

However, UWW does have their fair share of holes though. Their offense doesn't seem to be quite in sync like we're used to seeing them. They seem to only show urgency when their backs are against the wall, and require a score to win. So far they've been able to come through. I think I've posted this before, UWW needs to play with that same urgency for the entire game. Not sure if that's on the play calling, the coaching or the players? Their defense, especially their secondary has been very suspect in a few games, injuries and inexperience has played a big roll in that I think.  They are 6-0 against a brutal schedule so far, so it's hard to get too critical.

Their next game against Point is going to be really tough I think.

Have wondered the same thing. Although, computer polling seem to be consistent with what we see in these fan polls. I like Massey (NESCAC excl.) a lot, and that seems to vaildate the WIAC strength. Less love for SJU and Conc than their WIAC cohorts with similar type losses.

Will be really curious to see how this shakes out in regional rankings. Could a 2 loss WIAC team supplant SJU or other potential 1 loss squads (Dubuque)as a 2nd pool C candidate out of the region? I realize Massey SOS is different than the NCAA methodology, but SJU has an SOS in the 150's right now, and it might not get much better. Should be interesting to see how it all factors in.

I don't think UWW has regressed, but I would say the bottom half(ish) of the WIAC has. If you look at the way UWP, UWO, UWSP, and UWLAX have beaten up on the non-con opponents, it's pretty clear the top of the conference is dominant.

Team  Opp #1  Score  Opp #2  Score  Opp #3  Score    Avg MoV
UWW  TCNJ   51-3    Belhaven   59-13    Morningside   35-21    36.0
UWO  John Carroll   33-14    Finlandia   68-7    Morthland   77-0    52.3
UWP  George Fox   35-0    St. Francis   26-7    Lakeland   56-0    36.7
UWSP  St. Norbert   37-14    Albion   50-13    Adrian   44-19    28.3
UWLAX   Luther   45-14    Ripon   65-14    Carroll   41-7    38.7

If you average their ranking in the 15 different computer rating sites I know of, this is how the WIAC shakes out nationally:

UWW
UWP
UWO
UWLAX  13
UWSP  37
UWSt  71
UWRF  81
UWEC  145

As an aside, here's why the NCAA SoS metric is garbage.

I think the non-con schedule is what we have to look at, and there is some evidence that supports the relative strength of the WIAC. But, except for Morningside (we think) and maybe St Norbert, not a lot of worthy opponents to compare. I did see the UWW/Morningside game, and thought Morningside was a legit team based on my eye test.

Still, it seems as though the WIAC and the MIAC are similar in that the top teams and bottom teams are far apart. The "second tier" in the MIAC didn't look as good in the non-con part of the season, but may be on the upswing, particularly Concordia.
