I'd venture to say that beating WLC in four is hardly worthy of a mention when it comes to D3 rankings.
Some first WIAC in-conference meet results:
UW-Oshkosh goes 2-0
UW-Whitewater and UW-Eau Claire go 1-1
Live stats, audio and video (http://www.titans.uwosh.edu/WVolleyball/Schedule.html) tonight tomorrow (doh!) for the Oshkosh vs. Whitewater showdown. First serve scheduled for 7. If you see me at the match, stop by and say hello. I'll be the handsome guy in the stands.
EDIT: I should make that live "scoring," not live stats. And to be honest, I'm below average in appearance. You can still say hello, though.

WIAC Championship Match: UW-Whitewater vs. UW-Eau Claire (Tournament website indicates Eau-Claire knocked off UW-Oshkosh in the semi-s)
Probably a positive development for the WIAC. Oshkosh will still be in and likely to host. Now the loser of UWW and UWEC has a good shot too.
UW-Whitewater took the WIAC Tourney Title by beating Eau-Claire in 3, per WIAC site.
Oshkosh snuck past Platteville 3-2 in the consolation match.
Three WIAC schools earn Pool C bids (out of 19 possible) to the NCAA Volleyball Regionals starting this week.
Oshkosh (who is hosting their Regional) and Eau Claire earn Pool C bids to the Oshkosh Regional, while they are joined by fellow WIAC school and Automatic Qulaifier Whitewater.
Platteville surprisingly also earns a Pool C bid and will travel to the Washington (MO) Regional along with fellow WI school Carthage College for their opening round game.
It would not surprise me one bit to see an All-WIAC Regional Final in Oshkosh seeing that Carthage is not making the trip to Oshkosh this year.
Could also have an all-MIAC regional final as well if things worked out for 2 of the 3 MIAC teams in that regional. In terms of number of nationally ranked squads-Oshkosh and Hope -on paper- appear to be the toughest regioals.
I know it's the off-season, however some news that I thought was interesting to say the least....
There is a two-time All WIAC selection that is deciding to transfer following the end of the school year. She has two years of eligibility left, but it is unknown if she will continue her volleyball career at this time.

I believe the transfer has more to do with her major, more than anything else.....

2021 race for conference tournament positioning; (Top 6 get in.)
In good shape at the moment: Eau Claire, Whitewater, Stevens Point and La Crosse
On the bubble: Stout, Oshkosh, River Falls
Needs to win a match--Platteville:
Remaining in-conference schedules:
Platteville: at River Falls, vs. Whitewater, at Eau Claire (River Falls win is their best shot, but even then they might need help.)
River Falls: at Platteville, at LaCrosse, vs. Oshkosh (win in next match darn near shuts Platteville out)
Oshkosh: at Stout, vs. Stevens Point, at River Falls
Stout: vs. Oshkosh, vs. Eau Claire, at Whitewater
On paper the schedule favors River Falls and Oshkosh
10/15 Eau Claire/La Crosse, 10/16 Stevens Pt vs. Whitewater and 10/29 Stevens Point/La Crosse are THE matches to watch among the leaders.
WIAC Conference Race Update:
Eau Claire has clinched a WIAC Tournament spot:
Should Eau Claire and Whitewater finish tied at the top, Eau Claire would get the top seed, having beaten Whitewater head to head.
Remaining schedule for final spot contenders:
Stout: at UW-Whitewater
River Falls: vs. UW-Oshkosh
Platteville: at UW-Eau Claire
On paper, River Falls would be favored to get the last WIAC playoff spot
Oshkosh would win the tie-breaker over Stevens Point;
Whitewater would win the tie-breaker over La Crosse.
Stevens Point/LaCrosse match 10/29 is key. A Pointer win would put them in 3rd place.
WIAC Final:
Whitewater over Stout in 3 sets:
(25-20, 25-18, 25-17)
Whitewater: McNeil .714 hitting pct.
Stout: Hoverman 10 spikes for points, .269 hitting pct.
Another WIAC Final:
Oshkosh over River Falls in 4 sets:
(27-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-16)
Oshkosh: .Kindt .400 hitting pct. 12 spikes for points, 10 digs
River Falls: 6 service aces
If Platteville knocks off Eau Claire tomorrow, Platteville's in, otherwise, the last spot comes down to a tie-breaker between Platteville, River Falls and Stout.
UPDATE: Platteville got the last WIAC Tournament playoff spot.
First round of WIAC tourney last night:
#4 Oshkosh over #5 La Crosse in5 (12-25, 25-22, 25-20, 22-25, 15-8)
#3 Point over #6 Platteville in 3 (25-18, 27-25, 25-13)
Thursday night semis:
#4 Oshkosh @ #1 Eau Claire
#3 Point @ #2 Whitewater
Somethin's gotta give in that Point/Whitewater match.
It'll be interesting to see if Point, Whitewater and Eau Claire all get in the D3 Tournament. Methinks 2 of those squads are locks, regardless of results.
Gotta think the same. Seems Eau Claire and Whitewater should be in regardless of what happens Thursday and Saturday. Maybe we sneak a 3rd team in if Point or Oshkosh get the AQ. I looked back and we sent 3 teams in 2019. Didn't look to see who was conference champ that year between Eau Claire, Point and Whitewater.
Blugolds win an exciting match in 5 over Oshkosh.
Blugolds dropped a tightly contested first set 25-27 in which Oshkosh hit around .470.
Blugolds controlled the next two sets winning 25-16, 25-16.
Oshkosh took another extended set 29-27 in set 4.
Blugolds closed out the match taking set 5 by a score of 15-9.
Will play Whitewater Saturday night for the WIAC crown.
Blugolds take home the WIAC championship over Whitewater in 4 (25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 25-19. Great atmosphere at the McPhee Center. Glad I was able to make it back.
WIAC gets three teams into the tournament.
UW-Whitewater travels to Calvin and will play (16-13) Ithaca College first round. Host Calvin should be favored in the region, but the Warhawks have put together a very strong season and after watching them this weekend wouldn't be surprised at all to see them pull an upset.
UW-Eau Claire hosts and will play 24-6 Greenville University. UWEC did see Greenville back in October in Chicago and won 3-2 (25-17, 25-18, 18-25, 20-25, 15-11) so there will be some familiarity there. Hope is at the bottom of the bracket and will likely be the favorite to come out.
UW-Stevens Point got in and I believe will be travelling to Wartburg where they will face 22-6 Bethel University. This will be the third meeting between the two schools this season. Bethel took the first match 3-0 in September and then fell 1-3 to the Pointers in October. Wartburg and Claremont-M-S will be standing in the way for the Pointers to make it into the final 8.
UW-Eau Claire takes the championship for 2021, knocking off Calvin in 3 sets!
('95 Blugold celebrating. . . )
2022 D3 AVCA Preseson Poll has 2 WIAC teams ranked.
Returning D3 National Champoins UWEC #1. Lost a good amount of top end talent off of last year's team so will be curious to see how this year's team looks.
UW Whitewater #16. Had a nice young team last year I thought. Will be interesting to watch if they improve off the experience. Wouldn't be surprised to see them in the top 10 at some point this year.

WIAC update in Week 1 AVCA poll.
UWEC drops from #1 to #5 after going 2-1 opening weekend at Trinity. Managed to pull off a 5 set victory against then #6 Berry. 3-0 sweep of then #24 Transylvania, then on the wrong end of a 0-3 sweep against host Trinity who jumped from #5 to #2 in this week's poll.
WHITEWATER rockets up from #16 to #9 after going 4-0 opening weekend. Big 3-1 win against previously #12 ranked Wartburg.
UWSP enters into the top 25 at #24 after going 2-1 opening weekend. This included a 3-2 win over then #20 Bethel(MN) along with a 3-0 loss to then #15 Northwestern(MN).
OSHKOSH is getting votes(57) after a 3-1 opening weekend that included a 3-0 loss to current #4 Juniata.
WIAC Update Week 4 AVCA Rankings
- Missed last week as I was out of town and pretty much away from internet.
UWSP: Top ranked WIAC team at #12, up from #21, in the new poll that came out yesterday. Big win over MIAC opponent Gustavus Adolphus who had jumped up into the rankings the week before following a strong start to the season that included a win over UWEC the prior weekend at the Augsburg Tournament. Pointers now sit at 10-1 on the season.
UWEC: Slides in right behind at #13 after an undefeated week. No big wins for the Blugolds this week, but opened up WIAC play with a win against Platteville and then swept through the competition at their own invitational over the weekend.
UW-Whitewater: Stays at #15 this week. Nice win to open their WIAC play against UW-Oshkosh on the road and then like Eau Claire swept the competition at their own Warhawk Open during the weekend.
UW-Oshkosh: receives 14 votes this week for the top 25.
Key Match ups this upcoming week.
Big one is going to be tonight when Whitewater hosts Point.
UWEC hosts River Falls in WIAC play, and then hosts Bethel Univ. (MN) Thursday who has been receiving votes the past two weeks in the poll and currently is sitting outside the top 25 with 44 votes cast for them this week.
WIAC Update Week 5 AVCA Rankings
UW-Whitewater climbs back into the Top 10 coming in at #9, up from #15 last week with an exciting 5 set victory over UWSP last week. Got a chance to watch the last few sets and it got pretty intense. Really fun match to watch.
UWEC moves up a couple to #11 after sweeping UWRF 3-0 and then beating MIAC opponent Bethel in an exciting 4 game match.
UWSP only drops 1 spot down to #13 following their loss at Whitewater during the week and then winning 3 matches at their own tournament over the weekend.
UW-Oshkosh is just 4 spots out of the Top 25 while receiving 97 votes.
Key Match Ups this Upcoming Week
By far the key match up of the week is going to be a non conference match up in which UWEC hosts #3 Northwestern (MN) on Wednesday night.
UWSP hosts Oshkosh Wednesday night and then Saturday hosts a very good MIAC opponent in #16 Augsburg.
WIAC Update Week 6 AVCA Rankings
UW-Whitewater is the top ranked WIAC team this week coming in at #9. Took care of UWRF in 3 sets in its only match of the week. Beat Platteville last night and heads out on the road to New York this week for the weekend.
UWEC drops 2 to come in at #13 this week. Won an exciting 5 set match against then #3 ranked Northwestern (MN) Thursday and then taking down WIAC foe La Crosse in 4 on Friday. Went on the road on Saturday and split a couple matches in Iowa. Lost to now ranked #20 ranked Coe before taking down Cornell (IA) in 4.
UWSP drops from #13 to #16 after a 2 loss week. After losing to WIAC opponent UW Oshkosh in 4 on Friday, Point followed that up with a 4 set loss to MIAC opponent and currently #15 Augsburg.
UW Oshkosh enters the top 25 this week at #21. As mentioned beat UWSP in 4 on Friday and then took down Augsburg on Saturday in 4 sets.
Key Matchups this Week.
Not much out there this week. UWEC and UWSP have a couple match ups against teams just outside the top 25. Whitewater probably has the match up of the week out in New York where they will face #19 MIT.
WIAC Update Week 7 AVCA Rankings
UW-Whitewater stays at #9 following their trip out East. 3-1 overall on the trip with a nice win against ranked MIT. Only blemish was a 4 set loss to #8 NYU.
UWEC stays at #13. Undefeated for the week which included 2 victories at the Elmhurst Triangular Meet and a WIAC victory over Stout.
UWSP moves up 1 to #15. Undefeated for the week also with wins over UWRF as well as North Park and Carroll.
UW-Oshkosh moves up from #21 to #16. Also undefeated for the week that included a WIAC win over LaCrosse.
Key Matchups this Week
Big WIAC match this week as UWSP hosts UWEC on Friday night.
Highlight match of the week should end up being #9 Whitewater traveling to #7 Northwestern(MN) on Saturday.
WIAC Update Week 8 AVCA Rankings
WIAC teams stay bunched up again for the week in the rankings.
UW-Whitewater drops 1 from #9 to #10 this week. Tough nonconference schedule this week had them going 1-2 on the week. Beat Stout, but sandwiched that win with a pair of losses on the road to Chicago (just outside the top 25) and #5 Northwestern. Though the Northwestern match came right after the UW Stout match and ended up being a tough 5 set loss.
UWEC somehow moves up 1 spot to #12 despite 4 set loss on the road to UWSP during the week. Nonconference win over Marian finished of the week for them.
UW Oshkosh jumps ahead of UWSP this week to come in at #13. Undefeated week with nonconference wins against Wheaton and Edgewood. Followed that up with a WIAC victory over UWRF.
UWSP rounds out the WIAC teams in the top 25 coming in at #15. Big home win against UWEC, but ended up falling to Edgewood later in the week after defeating Aurora University.
Key Matchup of this Week
UW-Oshkosh travels to UWEC tonight, 10/19/2022 in a big WIAC match up.
Current WIAC Volleyball Standings
SCHOOL WIAC OVERALL
UW-Whitewater 5-0 21-5
UW-Oshkosh 4-1 22-4
UW-Eau Claire 4-1 18-5

UW-Platteville 2-3 18-6
UW-Stout 1-4 11-12
UW-La Crosse 1-4 10-14
UW-River Falls 0-5 16-10
Edgewood is currently sitting in 3rd place in the NACC at the moment (behind perennial NACC powers Concordia-WI and Aurora,) and, barring an unexpected slump, should get a NACC Tournament spot. They finish up with Rockford, Concordia-Chicago and Alverno. One win combined with one loss by Lakeland and one by Benedictine and Edgewood's in.
WIAC Update Week 9 AVCA Rankings
UW-Whitewater stays at #10. Won their only match of the week against WIAC opponent LaCrosse in 3 sets.
UW-Oshkosh moves up 1 to #12 this week. Nice 4 set victory in the WIAC over UWEC. Then swept the weekend competition at Elmhurst beating Albion, Carthage and host Elmhust. Currently riding a 15 match win streak since losing to Ohio Northern back on September 17.
UW-Eau Claire drops 2 spots to #14. After losing to WIAC foe UW-Oshkosh to start off the week swept Macalester and Hamline over the weekend and got this week off to a good start with a sweep of UW-Superior last night.
UW-Stevens Point also drops 2 spots to #17. Tough WIAC loss to UW-Platteville. Rebounded with wins against Illinois Wesleyan and Wheaton to finish the week off at 2-1.
Key Match Up of the Week
UWEC travels to Whitewater on Friday night. UW-Whitewater looks to stay unbeaten in WIAC regular season play while UWEC looks to get its first win against a ranked WIAC opponent as they've lost to both UWSP and UW-Oshkosh earlier this year. I believe this is the last week of the regular season before post season kicks off next week.

Barring an early-round upset-I'd be surprised if at least 3 WIAC teams do not get into NCAAs. Whitewater, Stevens Point and Oshkosh chances are great. Eau Claire may have to sweat a bit.

Unfortunately, I would have to agree with this take. Think they will at least need to make the finals to have a chance at making the tournament and that will mean beating Whitewater on the road Thursday.
Without looking through their schedule, I think they only have 2 wins over top 25 opponents. Berry to start the season and then Northwestern a few weeks back. Realistically I don't think the resume will be quite good enough this year.
1st Round WIAC Tournament Results:
(3) UWSP over (6) UWRF in 4 sets.
25-17, 25-18, 17-25, 25-5
(5) UW-P over (4) UWEC in 4 sets.
21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 26-24.
Semifinals on Thursday
(3) UWSP @ (2) UW-Oshkosh
(5) UW-Platteville @ (1) UW-Whitewater
WIAC Update Week 10 AVCA Rankings
UW-Oshkosh jumps up from #12 up to #8. Didn't even lose a set as they cruised to a 4-0 week. For a team who didn't enter the rankings until week 6 at #21 they have flown up the rankings this past month. Have not lost a match since September 17.
UW-Whitewater drops from #10 to #12 this week. Swept WIAC opponent UWEC on Friday, only to come back and lose to Cornell (IA) on Saturday.
UW-Stevens Point moves up from #17 to #15. Nice undefeated week and started this week off right with a first round WIAC tournament win over UW-River Falls last night.
UW-Eau Claire drops from #14 to #17. Probably should have dropped further after getting swept on the week, losing both to UW-Whitewater and Concordia(WI). Most likely saw their season end last night as they dropped their first round WIAC tournament match to UW-Platteville.
Key Matches of the Week
Obviously 3 big matches this week as we head into the semifinals of the WIAC tournament on Thursday and the finals on Saturday.
Semifinals on Thursday
(3) UWSP @ (2) UW-Oshkosh
(5) UW-Platteville @ (1) UW-Whitewater
NCAA tournament berths will be right around the corner. Gotta figure Whitewater, Oshkosh and UWSP should be pretty safe. If Platteville pulls out the automatic bid, it will make things a bit interesting potentially. Despite the nice overall record, don't think UWEC or Platteville have the resume to get in as an at-large bid.
Semifinal Results from last night.
Whitewater sweeps Platteville. UWSP takes down Oshkosh on the road in a 5 set thriller.
UW-Whitewater def. UW-Platteville 26-24, 25-20, 25-20 (at Whitewater)
UW-Stevens Point def. UW-Oshkosh 25-27, 25-13, 18-25, 25-23, 16-14 (at Oshkosh)
WIAC Final Saturday night
UW-Stevens Point @ UW-Whitewater 7pm (Link for live feed is on the WIAC volleyball conference tournament page.)
UW-Whitewater defeates UW-Stevens Point in 4 sets to win WIAC Tournament. 25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 25-13
WIAC automatic bid goes to UW-Whitewater.
Turns out defending champs UW-Eau Claire got in after all.
Four WIAC teams make the field. Eau Claire had a couple nice wins, but overall a lack luster record against top 25 opponents. Maybe a defending national champion bump came into play.
UW-Oshkosh head to the Calvin regional where they face Otterbein in the first round. Could have a potential second round matchup against #4 ranked and host Calvin. Bracket looks as follows:
Calvin (25-3) vs. Aurora (22-9)
UW-Oshkosh (30-5) vs. Otterbein (23-5)
Wittenberg (23-4) vs. Hope (21-7)
WashU (29-5) vs. Millikin (23-10)
Whitewater, Stevens Point, and Eau Claire head to Northwestern (MN) in what is almost like a mini WIAC conference tournament. All three WIAC teams have played Northwestern this season. Eau Claire won in 5, Whitewater lost in 5 and Point lost in 4. Here is the bracket for the regional.
Northwestern-St. Paul (30-2) vs. North Park (23-8)
Stevens Point (25-7) vs. Coe (27-5)
Gustavus Adolphus (25-4) vs. Eau Claire (21-9)
Whitewater (25-6) vs. Cornell (22-7)
First round notes in this region
Point beat Coe 3-0 back on the first weekend of the season.
Eau Claire lost to Gustavus Adolphus 1-3 in the second weekend of the season.
Whitewater lost a 5 set thriller to Cornell the last weekend of October.
Scheduled start times for WIAC teams tomorrow Thursday, November 10.

Oshkosh vs. Otterbein 5:30 EST
Northwestern Regional
Eau Claire vs. Gustavus Adolphus 12:30pm CST
Whitewater vs. Cornell 3:00pm CST
Stevens Point vs. Coe 5:30pm CST
UWEC falls to Gustavus Adolphus in 4 sets.

25-20, 25-17, 23-25, 25-27, 15-12
UWSP sweeps Coe
25-22, 25-20, 25-19.
Whitewater advances to the Northwestern Regional final after defeating Gustavus Adolphus in 4.
25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18
Oshkosh season is over as they get swept by Calvin.
22-25, 15-25, 14-25.
Point on the verge of getting swept by Nothwestern having lost the first two sets and down 9-20 in set 3.
All WIAC teams eliminated after Whitewater falls to Northwestern.
21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20.
Guess what?? The other '21 Finalist (Calvin) didn't make the Elite 8 either (MIAA rival Hope upset the Knights in a 5 setter). Different finalists this time.
I haven't seen any preseason AVCA rankings yet, but I did come across D3 Massey preseason rankings. WIAC teams come in as follows:
Whitewater #3
UWEC #6
UWSP #9
Oshkosh #13
Platteville #44
Everyone else was outside the top 50.
Blugolds are hosting scrimmages this Saturday and then have an exhibition against St. Olaf a week from today before starting off their 2023 season at the Pacific Coast Classic hosted by C-M-S the first weekend of September.

#25 UW-Eau Claire
2023 Week 1 AVCA Poll
#8 UW-Oshkosh: Makes the big jump up from #15 preseason and jumps fellow WIAC school Whitewater in the process. Swept the competition at the Trinity Invitaional that included a sweep of host and then ranked #2 Trinity. Only lost 1 set over the weekend. Off to a good start for the week with wins over St. Norbert and Lakeland. Will host their own invitational this weekend with no ranked teams scheduled.
#9 UW-Whitewater: Up from #12 preseason. Swept 4 non ranked opponents at their own invitational to start the season. That all changes this coming weekend as they travel to Coe College where they will face #24 Cornell College, #5 Northwestern (MN), before finishing up with host #23 Coe.
#15 UW-Stevens Point: Up from #16. Also swept the weekend as they traveled to Christopher Newport University that included a 3-2 win over then #21 ranked CNU. Like Oshkosh got their week off with wins over St. Norbert and Lakeland. Travels to Illinois Wesleyan this weekend with no ranked opponents scheduled.
Dropped Out: UW-Eau Claire: Rough start to the Blugold season as they go 1-2 at Clairemont-Mudd-Scripps. Won they initial match up as well as the first set against C-M-S, before losing the next three sets to C-M-S. Finished off the event getting swept by unranked Pamona Pitzer. Started off this week with a win over St. Benedict and could maybe find their way back into the top 25 if they can pull out 2 wins over the weekend as they travel to Augsburg to face #18 Gustavus Adolphus and unranked Wartburg.
9/7 Massey Rankings
#3 Oshkosh
#4 Whitewater
#5 Stevens Point
#20 Eau Claire
#27 Platteville

Overcame 2 match points in set 4 to #12 Wash U to even up their match before taking it in 5. Travels to UW-River Falls in WIAC play this week in addition to playing North Park at UWSP on Saturday. Most likely UW-Platteville and a potential rematch against UW-Whitewater in the WIAC tournament stand in their way of entering the national tournament undefeated.
#7 UW-Whitewater: Stays at #7. Started the week of sweeping WIAC opponent UW-Platteville before taking care of the competition at a home invite over the weekend that included a 3-1 win over then ranked #19 Gustavus Adolphus. Started off this week with a sweep of UW-Platteville last night and will host unranked Alverno College on Tuesday. Did garner 7 #1 ranking votes this week.

#6 UW-Whitewater: Stays at #6 despite a tough week. Started off with a 5 set win over UW-Stevens Point in WIAC play before losing a couple at the North Park Triangular Friday evening. Had North Park nearly swept as they were serving for match point at 25-24, but North Park took the next 3 points and then proceeded to take it in reverse sweep fashion over Whitewater. 2023 WIAC pairings are now set with the regular season wrapping up this evening.
#1 UW-Oshkosh and #2 UW-Whitewater have 1st byes. Tuesday's match ups as follows:
#6 UWRF @ #3 UW-Platteville
#5 UWEC @ #4 UWSP
UW-Oshkosh tries to become the 3rd team in a row to win the regular season and post season tournament. UWEC did it in 2021 and UW-Whitewater pull it off last season.
Oshkosh & Whitewater are locks for the NCAA tournament. Platteville and UWSP probably have the resume to make it, but you just never know. UWEC and UWRF will need to win the WIAC Tournament to make it in.
What an opening night in the WIAC Women's Volleyball Tournament as both UWEC and UWRF go on the road and keep their post season hopes alive.
In Stevens Point: #5 seed UWEC defeats the Pointers for the second time in less than a week as they take an exciting 4 set victory (25-20, 20-25, 27-25, 25-22) over the #4 seed UW-Stevens Point. The Blugolds will travel to UW-Oshkosh Thursday night for their semi-final match up. Titans took the regular season match up in 4 sets back on October 11. (28-18, 16-25, 25-15, 25-17)
In Platteville: #6 seed UWRF avenges a regular season sweep, as they take down host and #3 seed UW-Platteville in 5 sets (14-25, 25-19, 25-23, 20-25, 15-12). Falcons travel to UW-Whitewater Thursday night for their semi-final match up. Warhawks took the regular season matchup in a sweep (25-16, 25-19, 25-23).
Stevens Point and Platteville now wait to see if they get selected for an at large D3 NCAA tournament bid.
Week 10 AVCA Poll (WIAC Update)
#2 UW-Oshkosh: Remains at #2 while garnering 8 first place votes as they once again swept through their opponents for the week. A lock at this point for a NCAA National Championship bid opens up this week against UW-Eau Claire in the semifinals of the WIAC Conference Tournament.
#6 UW-Whitewater: Remains at #6 as they took care of UW-River Falls 3-0 in their only action of the week. Start off this week with a rematch against UW-River Falls in the other semifinal of the WIAC Conference Tournament after UWRF upset #3 seeded UW-Platteville.
#23 UW-Stevens Point: Dropped 3 spots after a bit of a rough week. Lost their WIAC season finale against UWEC in 5 sets on Friday night and then split a pair of matches Saturday beating College of Saint Benedict before falling to St. Olaf in 5 sets. Followed up Friday's loss to UWEC on the road by losing to UWEC in 4 sets on Tuesday night at home in the first round of the WIAC Conference Tournament. Will wait now on a hopeful NCAA National Championship bid.

2024 WIAC Volleyball Tournament Final is now set as the top 1 seeds sweep their way through the semifinals.

#2 UW-Whitewater downs #6 UW-River Falls in straight sets (25-21, 25-23, 25-22).
Titans swept the Warhawks (25-22, 25-23, 25-27) back in September in the WIAC regular season match up in Whitewater
Eau Claire season is more likely all finished despite the higher Massey ranking. UWRF may still be in the mix for a Pool C bid with UWSP and UW-Platteville, though latest rakings probably have UWRF on the outside looking in for a invite.

UW-Whitewater goes on the road and takes down previously undefeated UW-Oshkosh in straight sets (25-23, 25-20, 25-22) to get the WIAC automatic bid as conference champions. The win gives the Warhawks back to back conference titles.
Next up is the D3 selection show. Monday, Nov. 13. 1pm E.T.
Three WIAC teams in the NCAA tournament this season.
UWSP heads to Hope where they will take on Case Western Reserve University. Win in the first round most likely gets them a match up against host Hope.
UW-Whitewater heads to Cornell College where they take on first round opponent Coe. A win in against Coe means they'll probably end up defeating Wash U followed by Northwestern-St. Paul to make it to the final 8.
UW-Oshkosh hosts and starts off against Greenville. Perennial power Calvin shares the same side of the regional bracket.
Will try and get more written up later.
Unfortunately, no 4th team out of the WIAC like last season. I thought Platteville or maybe even River Falls had a slight chance, but no dice. I firmly believe UWEC got a defending national champion bump last year to get a 4th WIAC team in last post season. Also nice that all 3 teams are in separate regions this year. Last year UWSP, UWEC and Whitewater all travelled to Northwestern-St. Paul first weekend.
Good luck to the WIAC schools.

UW Whitewater defeats Coe 3-1 (15-15, 20-25, 12-12, 25-20)
Next up rematch against WashU.
UW-Whitewater defeated WashU back in September on their home court 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-22, 25-19). Should be a great rematch.
Match is set for 4:30pm CST tomorrow 11/17/2023.
What a comeback win for UWSP.
After dropping the second set 8-25 and going down 2 sets to zero, the Pointers pull off the reverse sweep and beating CWRU in 5 sets (19-25, 8-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-7).
Barring an upset tonight, most likely will play host and #2 ranked Hope tomorrow 11/16/2023 at 6pm CST.
Hope swept Bethany-WV, so the Pointers do get the Dutch tomorrow.
UW-Oshkosh caps off a perfect Day 1 for the WIAC as they take care of business against Greenville 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-21).
Up next for the host Titans MIAC foe Gustavus Adolphus who knocked off #12 Calvin in a mild first round upset. Tentative start time 7pm CST.
UW-Whitewater sweeps #14 WashU enroute to the Cornell Regional final (25-20, 25-18, 25-18).
Wow. What a match for UWSP tonight, but couldn't quite pull off off the reverse sweep for the second night in a row as they fall to #2 Hope College in 5 (22-25, 15-25, 25-16, 25-19, 10-15).
Oshkosh sweeps their way into the regional final (25-10, 25-23, 25-13) over Gustavus Adolphus.
UW-OSHKOSH TO THR FINAL 8!!!
After never being able to find a way to get over the hump in the first set UW-Oshkosh controlled the next three sets as they defeat La Verne in 4 sets (18-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-22) to advance.
Despite multiple match point opportunities UW-Whitewater falls to Northwestern-St.Paul in 5 sets (25-20, 25-21, 28-30, 26-28, 11-15) as Northwestern-St.Paul pulls off the reverse sweep in dramatic fashion.
Warhawks have gone 0-4 against the Eagles the past 2 seasons including season ending losses at Regionals both years.
UW-Oshkosh gets the #1 seed for the final 8. Will open up round 1 against host school Claremont-Mudd-Scripp on 11/29 @ 9pm CST.
WIAC is fully eliminated as Claremont-Mudd-Sripps defeats UW-Oshkosh in the quarterfinals 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-17).
Also, from a regional standpoint Northwestern-St.Paul gets eliminated as well by NYU 3-2.

Oshkosh with a nice jump and leap over Whitewater after their big 5 set win over the Warhawks last week, though expect them to fall back down a few notches as they got swept by Platteville on the road this evening. Will that be enough for Platteville to finally crack into the top 25? Lost their chance is this weeks poll after getting swept by UW-Stout last week to open up WIAC play. Should be fun month ahead for the WIAC play as we get into the meat of in conference play.
Massey Rankings through 9-24
#2 UW-Whitewater
#3 UW-Oshkosh
#22 UW-Platteville
#25 UWSP
#29 UWEC
A reliable source tells me that the following WIAC squads would be in the tournament (though these projections are early yet).
UW-Whitewater (sure thing).
At Large:
UW-Oshkosh
UW-Platteville
UW-Stevens Point
UW-Eau Claire would be out.

Unless they end up winning the WIAC conference tournament I would agree with this. A couple nice wins this past week over ranked opponents, but to many losses overall has my Blugolds on the outside looking in. We'll see how it plays out, but with 6 losses currently and Whitewater, Oshkosh and Platteville yet on the schedule I don't think UWSP is assured of being in, especially if they drop all three of those matches.
WEEK 6 AVCA Poll
Missed last week, as I'm still getting used to a new job role and a kind of mixed up schedule that has come with it. Nothing changing in the top 8 spots in this weeks AVCA poll from last week.

A couple important conference match ups start off the week this week. UWSP travels to UW-Whitewater and UWEC goes to UW-Platteville this evening. UWSP continues their tough week as they travel to St. Louis (MO) over the weekend for matchups against North Park (80 received votes), Illinois Wesleyan (41 received votes), #8 Washington-St. Louis.
Massey Rankings (Through 10-14)

WIAC Update:
Oshkosh, Stevens Point, Whitewater, Platteville, Eau Claire and Stout are in.
Oshkosh gets the top seed, having beaten Stevens Point head to head.
Stevens Point gets #2, having beaten Whitewater head to head.
Platteville, Eau Clare and Stout are in a tie
Head to head:
Platteville; (0-2) lost to both Eau Claire and Stout
Eau Claire: (2-0) beat both Platteville and Stout
Stout: (1-1): beat Platteville, lost to Eau Claire
There you have it.
In what was likely a post season elimination match UW-Platteville goes on the road and sweeps the Blugolds in 3 sets in the first round of the WIAC VB Tournament. UWEC was consistently battling up hill the whole match and just could not get over the hum an any point. Platteville travels to UW-Oshkosh Thursday in semi final action.
UW-Whitewater sweeps UW-Stout at home as expected. They will travel to UWSP on Thursday for their semi final match up.
After an intense 5 setter in Oshkosh the WIAC final is set.
UW-Whitewater goes on the road to take down UWSP in 3 sets 2(25-21, 25-22, 28-26).
UW-Platteville goes on the road to UW-Oshkosh in what was an amazing 5 set match. Down 13-9 in the 5th set, Oshkosh goes on a run to tie it at 13. Back and forth from there until Oshkosh puts it away. (26-24, 21-25, 20-25, 25-19, 20-18).
WIAC Final Saturday evening as UW-Oshkosh hosts UW-Whitewater.
UW-Whitewater goes on the road to UW-Oshkosh to win their 3rd consecutive WIAC championship in 5 sets.
WIAC gets 5 teams in the NCAA post season. I'd have to go back and actually look, but I don't think that has happened before. Here are the following matchups with Nov. 12 rankings listed.
(#7) UW Whitewater vs. Ohio Wesleyan
(#24) UWEC vs. (#23) Northwestern-St. Paul
(#17) UW-Platteville vs. Edgewood
(#5) UW-Oshkosh vs. Marymount (VA)
(#25) UWSP vs. Otterbein
Whitewater, UWEC and Platteville are all in the same region. Whitewater would face UWEC in a 2nd round matchup if both win their first round games with a potential all WIAC matchup to see who goes to the final 8. If teams win out, it would be possible for the WIAC to have 3 teams represented at the final 8. I'll try and dig in a bit deeper this week and get a post up before play starts on Thursday.
Good first day for the WIAC.
UW Oshkosh has no issues sweeping Marymount (VA). 25-9, 25-17, 25-10.
UW Platteville sweeps Edgewood 25-18, 25-16, 25-17.
UWSP takes down Otterbein in an exciting 5 set match. 19-25, 25-15, 25-21, 23-25, 15-13.
UWEC started strong in their match and kept it going rolling in a sweep of Northwestern-St. Paul 25-16, 25-16, 25-18.
UW-Whitewater after a tough 1st set win takes the next two in uneventful fashion for a sweep of Ohio Wesleyan 28-26, 25-14, 25-15.
Pretty good day as 3 WIAC teams make it through the 2nd round.
UWSP falls to region host Hope 0-3 (15-25, 15-25, 18-25).
UW-Oshkosh downs University of Chicago 3-1 (18-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-16).
UW-Platteville defeats Wash U 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 18-25, 25-17).
UW-Whitewater takes down fellow WIAC opponent UWEC 3-0 (25-12, 25-23, 25-21).
Unfortunately, the WIAC can only get 2 teams through to the final 8. Matchups tomorrow.
UW-Whitewater vs. UW-Platteville (Whitewater defeated Platteville 3-0 in the only season matchup)
UW-Oshkosh vs. Illinois Wesleyan (No in-season matchups)
Two in the final 8 for the WIAC as both Whitewater and Oshkosh take care of business with relative ease in 3 set sweeps.
UW-Whitewater over UW-Platteville 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-19).
UW-Oshkosh over Illinois Wesleyan 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-20).
Final 8 seeds are out.
#6 UW-Whitewater vs. #3 Emory
#7 UW-Oshkosh vs. #2 Johns Hopkins
Both on the right side of the bracket so no chance of an all WIAC final. Left side seeded as follows.
#1 Juniata vs. #8 La Verne
#4 Hope vs. #5 Washington & Lee
Games on 12/4.
Tough draws but the WIAC squads are used to such things, no doubt.
Decent first day for the WIAC yesterday.
Whitewater sweeps Emory with relative ease 3-0. (25-13, 25-23, 25-19)
Oshkosh unfortunately falls in 5 to Johns Hopkins. (21-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 11-15).
Whitewater faces Johns Hopkins today in the semis.
UW-Whitewater takes down #2 seed Johns Hopkins in a weird 5 set match. Each set was a lopsided score for the winner (13-25, 25-16, 17-25, 25-16, 15-7).
Warhawks will be playing for the D3 National Championship on Saturday against #1 Juniata who needed 5 sets to take down #4 Hope and extend their win streak to 96.
The year Whitewater won the final was 2005-Kim Fruit was on that squad and per Warhawk all time records site through the completion of the 2023 season, she still holds the indviidual record for highest career hitting percentage (.363).
UW=Whitewater's reverse sweep bid falls short--Juniata prevails yet again--
