Pat has opened a Volleyball board in response to discussions with the AVCA.
Here is another sport that we D3fans can use to talk about the teams of our favorite sport.
Noticed UT-Tyler and Texas Lutheran won last night. McMurry plays later. ETBU-UT-Dallas figures to be interesting.
NAthCon squads' all-time volleyball records vs. ASC squads (this is only as long as the NAthCon's been in existence) is 2-2.
Lakeland knocked off Hardin-Simmons one of the years the Cowgirls later qualifed for NCAA's.
Howard Payne lost a 5-gamer to Dominican-IL in '07
Sul Ross State has gone 1-1 vs. NAthCon squads--beating Benedictine-IL a couple of years back, and losing to WLC last year.
Props to Hardin-Simmons for getting off the schneid in conference last night!
McMurry put one in the win column 9/19 and HSU also won, per ASC results.
McMurry lost in 3 to HSU on the road this evening (25-14, 25-23, 25-22)

2009 ASC Crossover #1 results (including ETBU) here:

Latest in-conference standings indicate that UT-Dallas (9-0) and ETBU (10-1) are separating from the rest in the East. HSU is on-top in the West, where several teams are still in contention.
Per standings off ASC site 4 of the 6 tournament spots have been filled. McMurry and Schreiner are still duking it out for the final spot in the West, one team in the East will get in with a below .500 in-conference record.
Heard ETBU knocked off Concordia-WI in 3 --no surprise there, figured there'd be a big-time rebound after that heart-breaking loss to UT-Dallas no matter who the opponent would have been.
ASC Tournament Pairings are now set:

(BTW-- Hooray for McMurry--Ralph, for a while I didn't think your squad would get in!)
They came together late in the season. The key was the win over TLU.
They played a very competitive schedule...
UTDallas
Colorado College
Puget Sound
Southwestern
Stevens Tech
All are regionally ranked
They also played HSU and Austin College.
From Kyle Robarts press release...
QuoteRICHARDSON – It's beginning to feel like 2007 all over again. McMurry
defeated East Texas Baptist 25-23, 25-21, 24-26, 25-16 Friday in the
quarterfinals of the American Southwest Conference and will play
Hardin-Simmons at 5 p.m. Friday for the semifinals round.
Two years ago McMurry had the same scenario in the same gym at
UT-Dallas and defeated ETBU in five sets. However, Hardin-Simmons
defeated McMurry in three sets to end the season and in 2009, McMurry
will look to change its fate against the Cowgirls who defeated McMurry
twice in the regular season.
Bailey Marcum, Terah Brown and Danielle Kelton helped lead McMurry's
offensive unit Friday with 13, 10 and nine kills apiece while the team
hit .201. Marcum hit .273 for the match and continued her hot streak
against ETBU. She had 19 kills in the win over the Tigers during the
regular season Oct. 16. ...

Joining UT-Dallas/ETBU in progress:
UT-Dallas won in 5 sets.
Is it just me or does it seem like many division 3 programs seem to have 4-5 new girls on the court every season? From what Ive noticed the retention rates for many D3 volleyball programs is very very small? Anyone agree?

I believe that the difference in D3 versus scholarship programs is that the players in scholarship levels are being held to the program by the "velvet glove" of the athletic scholarship.
If those players get financial aid in the D3 model, the financial package is there, whether they play sports or not. If they forfeit their athletic scholarship, they may not get the same financial package from the school.
Alright ladies and gents, season is approaching.
Any predictions for the fall? Some of the recruiting classes look impressive....on paper that is.
This poster expects things will be different at McMurry (with Brown having graduated)--LeTourneau, UT-Tyler and one other ASC school having new coaches -it'll be interesting what they bring to the table.

ASC Postseason Volleyball Tournament Notes:
Who's hot: UT-Dallas (undefeated), LeTourneau (won last 6 matches), Concordia-TX (won last 5 matches). McMurry was on a hot run, interrupted by an un-expected late-season 1 match loss to Sul Ross State.
Playoff entrant most wanting to make a positive statement: ETBU-hands down- The Tigers were once ranked as high as #12 in the Top 25, but with 5 other ASC teams having also been either ARV or in the poll at some point, with the top squads constantly knocking each other off, it was ETBU's turn to have a bit humbling, but not totally humiliating, regular season.
Team regular season stats generally, (on paper, anyway) would favor a UT-Dallas/Mary Hardin-Baylor match for the post-season title. However, McMurry ranked 2nd in overall service aces and avg service aces per set. Any match that goes to 5 sets-anything can happen
In terms of individual players, 9 of the top 10 who led the ASC in hitting pct will play this weekend (the lone exception being Annika Cannaba of Sul Ross State)
UT-Dallas has great balance, with Sommerfeld (top overall hitting pct.,), Croft (2nd in avg. Spikes for points at 3.82 per set), Fitt (3rd in assists/set at just more than 6.5/set) and Towery averaged 0.60 service aces per set.
Eight of the top 10 players in the service ace dept. will be active this weekend.
McMurry won one match against Mary Hardin Baylor during the regular season. Can the War Hawks pull off a mild upset this weekend? It wouldn't be a total surprise to me.
So far, generally, things have held to form--caught the last half of the 5th set of CU-TX/UT-Dallas thriller-- The Tornadoes were up 8-5 in set 5 but the Comets went on a 10-1 run to take the match!
It'll be a #8 Mary Hardin-Baylor/#3 UT-Dallas final:
#8 Mary Hardin-Baylor takes the ASC Tournament Title by beating #3 UT-Dallas in 3 sets!
Fall 2021 Pre-Season ASC WVB Poll is here:

Fall 2021 Conference Race Update:
Mary Hardin-Baylor clinched the top seed for the ASC Tournament
UT-Dallas, Sul Ross State, ETBU and Concordia-TX are also in.
A LeTourneau win over Belhaven tonight, and LeTourneau gets the last spot.
Update: LeTourneau got the win, and got in.
ASC Underdog squad to watch: Sul Ross State (was picked to finish 8th in ASC pre-season poll).
#5 seed Sul Ross State has just pulled off a mild upset, beating #4 ETBU in 3 sets.
(25-19, 26-24, 25-13)
Sul Ross State: had 6 service aces and outhit the Tigers .237 to .073 for the match.
Up next; Concordia-TX vs LeTourneau
Cru avoids the upset, for now, knocking off Sul Ross State in 3 sets.
Lobos have nothing to be ashamed of (heard per ASC site that last night's Lobo win was the first time they had ever beat ETBU, and SRSU had its' farthest advancement in an ASC Tournament since 2004.)
Update: UT-Dallas over LeTourneau in 3 sets.
Mary Hardin-Baylor and UT-Dallas will go at it with the ASC AQ on the line.
UT-Dallas takes the ASC AQ by knocking off Mary Hardin-Baylor 3 sets to 1!
American Southwest Conference Pre-Season 2022 Poll is now up:

UMHB has now won 4 straight...ASC race is tightening up, especially for that No. 2 spot between LETU and UMHB.
Here's our photo gallery from yesterday's match: https://truetothecru.com/2022/10/09/photo-gallery-umhb-volleyball-sweeps-mcmurry-university/
Pretty solid match from UMHB against ETBU tonight. The Cru have turned the corner and are looking more and more like the team picked to win the ASC in the preseason poll every week. Hannah Frasca had 27 kills tonight and Ella Brunson had 64 assists!

I hope Sul Ross State makes the ASC Conference Tournament again--
