Title: East Region
Post by: Golden_Fan on October 29, 2014, 08:08:13 AM
Hey guys first time poster, long time reader, and former player here. I figured I would make a topic about this region as this is the one I'm most familiar with, particularity the SUNYAC, and I never see a topic for this region.

What are some thought for this region? Who moves on, who has the possibility for at large bids?

In the SUNYAC:
Will Onenota continue to roll?

Will Cortland's offense come to life as it has the past couple of games?

Can Brockport finally put it all together and stay out of OT and win in regulation (11 so far this season, one loss in OT)?

Will Geneseo finally have one of those close games roll their way (Lost to Cortland, Onenota, SLU by one goal and tied Brockport)?

Can Postdam or Oswego surprise anyone?

I knew Brockport would drop with 6 ties. They have to win the SUNYAC.  Also, unfortunately RPI is going to have to win the Liberty League title to get in.

If Brockport wins Saturday they would move on to face Cortland. Do you think the winner of this game would decide the second SUNYAC bid as onenota has the at large locked up if they fail to win? Or are Brockports 6 ties, possibly more depending on the outcome of the next game, to much. Which leaves Cortland getting the other bid if they fail to win SUNYACs

Yea I agree but Brockport actually has a better SOS and some good wins but those 6 ties and a #5 ranking in the east will be tough to overcome. They need to hopefully get to SUNYAC final and beat Cortland in the semi...NOT TIE CORTLAND and get thru on PK's but beat them. ALso they need to see Rochester falter down the stretch to have a chance.

They both have tough roads. Rochester has to play 2 team that are currently higher than them in the UAA and 2 of their 3 games are on the road

That being said though if Rochester goes 1-1-1 that will not hurt them because there SOS will surely climb and there record vs ranked. That is why that Cortland game vs Brockport is extremely important for them

Some important games this weekend:

Clarkson @ SLU
UR @ Emory
Stevens @ Fisher
Oswego @ Brockport
Geneseo @ Potsdam

A loss for any of the ranked teams would likely effect their chances of an at large bid if not completely eliminate them if they fail to win the AQ. Predictions?

SLU 2-0
UR 1-1
Stevens 4-0
Brockport 2-0
Geneseo 1-0 in OT

SLU will win that game vs Clarkson and they can lose in LL and still get in.

The loser of UR and Emory will be in trouble but not out as their SOS are both over .600

Stevens has to get the AQ they will not get a Pool C

Brockport needs a couple more win before they get a Pool C. They need to win that first round game and they must beat Cortland in the next round. They cannot tie another game and go thru on penalties, They must win those 2 games

Geneseo needs to get the AQ and they have the ability to do it. I will never forget that Geneseo 2004 team that beat an incredible Williams team in 2004 up at SLU

You are a historian Sir.
That was one of a few classic Upstate NY v. Mass games.

I see atleast one more taking place before we put 2014 to bed.

9 of those games come to mind.

1998 SLU v Williams. In my mind these were the 2 best teams in the country that year. That SLU team was basically the same team that was NCAA champion in 1999 and that Williams team was nasty.

2002 SLU v Amherst. SLU dominated and won 1-0 but that was a good Amherst side with a great striker named Joe Gannon. One of the Goodings better recruits.

2004 SLU v Williams. Instant classic as Williams comes away with a 1-0 OT win. SLU was a bit better that year but Williams countered well. SLU had gone thru a real  tragedy the week of the game as a SLU player was found dead after going missing after leaving a bar intoxicated. He was found to have drown.

2004 Geneseo v Williams at SLU. Williams was the better side and even had a goal called back on a very questionable offside call and I think out shot Geneseo by a 3:1 margin but let up a soft goal and lost 1-0. Geneseo advanced to the 2004 Final 4 and got hammered by a very strong UC Santa Cruz.

2005 SLU v Williams at Plattsburg. Williams win 3-0 but the game was dominated in possession and shots by SLU but Williams countered extremely well and finished their chances.

2005  Plattsburgh v Williams. Plattsburgh wins 1-0 on a frigid day near the Canadian border in a game Williams should have won. Plattsburgh moves on the Final 4 where they get trounced by Messiah.

2010 SLU v Amherst. Amherst survives a game SLU deserved to win.

2012 Williams v SLU. SLU minus their best player Sam DeMello goes up in Williamstown in the 1st minute 1-0 and holds the lead until the 82nd minute when frosh Mohammed Rashid scores a beauty to knot the match. 10 minutes later an excellent cross by Rashid finds Michael Madding's boot for  2-1 OT Williams win.

2013 Amherst v SLU. Another travesty for SLU as we all have this game fresh in our minds. Check the highlight on youtube.

I guess the point is that I completely agree based on history we will see another Western NY v Western Mass classic in the later rounds of the NCAA's

As of right now : SLU wins 2-1, UR loses 1-0, Geneseo wins 2-0 to move on to play Onenota Wednesday, Stevens up 3-0 in 60th min, and Brockport kicks off in 40 min

Brockport wins in yet another overtime game 2-1 out shooting oswego 22-6. They move on to play cortland on wednesday. This game will be big for both teams as brockport surely needs to win this game to have a chance of the AQ if they need it. Their first meeting was a high scoring 4-3 with cortland winning in OT. This game could be another high scoring one as well.

Geneseo won fairly easily 2-0 outshooting potsdam 21-9. Earlier in the year they lost to onenota 2-1 in what was a close and tough game. Onenota had one more shot on goal , 12-11, but Geneseo had more on frame 8-4. This had the potential to be another close game if geneseo can manage slow them down.

And UR will win at home against a Case team that no longer has anything but pride to play for.

Tomorrow is the day. There should be two very entertaining with the first being cortland hosting brockport at 11am ET and then oneonta hosting geneseo at 1pm ET. If these games are anything like the first match ups between these team then the brockport vs cortland game should be high scoring and the geneseo vs oneonta game will be very tense.

Bport and cortland met last year for the semis with cortland winning 1-0 in a very tight game. I see bport getting some payback this year and winning 3-2 in another exciting meeting.

I see the Geneseo and oneonta game going the same way as the first time they met this year. 2-1 Oneonta in the first OT

0-0 still headed into OT

Cortland wins 1-0 in OT. Looked like the bport keeper had it in his hands off of a header on a Cortland corner and then a cortland player kicked it out and into the goal. Can't be 100% positive as the video feed was terrible
