The second weekend of the DIII Men's and Women's Championship Tournaments is set to start. Can the upset minded teams continue to prevail? Can the "favorites" maintain their poise? What home team will enjoy their own cooking? And who will still be playing in Fort Wayne and Salem?

On Thursday's Hoopsville (http://www.d3hoopsville.com), Dave is joined by a number of guests to get a look not only at the action ahead this weekend, but the action coming at the final fours. Which teams seemed ready to be playing one more weekend?

Hoopsville (http://www.d3hoopsville.com) is presented by D3hoops.com and airs from the WBCA/NABC Studio. Thursday's show will air live starting at 7:00 p.m. ET. here: http://bit.ly/2C82LcA (or via Facebook Live and Periscope simulcasts).

You played a heck of a game DeSales - losing by just one point to the Ithaca Bombers 76 - 75.   You still did the MAC Freedom proud!

The Del Val Aggies start their 2019-20 season this Saturday, at home, with Rosemont College at 1 pm!    We'll be there - excited to see our seven new players and what they bring to the court!

Was hoping for a different outcome, but it's a long season and Fred is a great coach.   We shall see.   Scranton can hit that trey!   Lily Warhaftig looks like a solid player.

How did that turn out Kate????

Considering outside of an 11-0 run to start the second half the game was pretty even ... I'm not sure any smacktalk was necessary. Both teams are pretty darn good.

Kate:

Unfortunately, it looks like another long, cold winter in Aggieville.

Love your dedication but 5 wins may be all they have in the cards this season.

Looks like a pretty short bench right now so that doesn't help either.

Hang in there.

Are you & the hub down in sunny Fla with the team?

Have a Merry Christmas & keep the faith.

Hi Saratoga!  We are not in sunny Miami - we're in freezing Easton, and yes, i'm not too happy with the Aggies, both men & women this year, so far.   The women are playing without our two fantastic Senior point guards, Ashley Smink and  Dom Moser.   Both out with injuries and both scheduled to come back to the lineup next season.  Dom is an Easton High School grad, and attended N.A.C.C. for her first two years.  Good luck to Scranton the rest of the season - will you have competition in the Landmark?   As for the Lady Aggies, we'll just have to rely on Lauren Moretti and Em Kutsel until our Freshman find their court presence.   Kind of a sad year, too, because the MAC made the guy's game at 6, and the women's games at 8.   That gets us back to Easton at 11 - way past our bedtime.   Love those Sat. afternoon 1 pm games more and more.

The Del Val games with Misericordia postponed from last night will now be played up in Dallas (at Miseri) - game times 5 and 7.
Title: Re: WBB: MAC Freedom
Post by: Dave 'd-mac' McHugh on January 16, 2020, 12:53:41 PM
Game was postponed because a backboard was broken in pre-game warmups (I believe it fell on the floor as a result).

DIIIs don't have backboards lying around nor can they get them easily replaced.

Some DIII conferences have rules saying no pre-game and halftime dunking ... for this exact reason. I thought the MAC was one of them, but I could have them mixed up with someone else.

Post by: kate on January 18, 2020, 08:31:16 PM
Thanks for the info Dave - hopefully by this time the backboard will be replaced.   A sad weekend for Aggie sports, but here's to better weekends and games in general before the season ends.   Go Del Val!!!

MAC has already announced they are delayed until late February - they won't be participating in any NCAA tournament that may or may not take place.

Their schedule will go into March, though I don't know the length.

Schedules could come out soon, though this is convention week so many meetings instead right now.

Good Luck to our Aggies in their abbreviated schedule!   This will be the first time in TWENTY-THREE years that we probably won't get to a game.   No shots, getting old :(, and the games all starting at 7, meaning that we wouldn't get home until after bedtime.    GO AGGIES!!!!

Just want to congratulate the Aggies tonight beating Wilkes 57 to 47.   It's a two-game winning streak for Del Val.   Tonight, Junior Emily Kutskel had 29 points!    It was great hearing Gordon's call of the game last night for the Aggie win in Doylestown!    Tonight, Wilkes had a crisp video but no announcer.

Break up the Aggies...2 in a row???
It's been a while since that seemingly simple feat has taken place.
Not sure defeating Wilkes is the level you want the bar set at but it is a start.
Enjoy the weekend & break out the champagne.  ;)

O.K., starting a new topic - just hope that all of our magnificent MAC coaches and the people who are coaching now who have graduated from our MAC schools land in premium coaching spots if they're changing schools this season!   In these seasons of change and some upheaval, we want to maintain as much continuity as we can.   Go Luck to all our MAC schools this coming 2022-23 season!!!

Hi Gordon, not really, but we'll miss Rosie Gobelli at Arcadia, and i'm hoping that Del Val's own Jackie Hartzell will land a great job, and it would be even better if it was with the MAC!   We feel really bad about losing Wilkes and Lycoming after this season.   That trip from Easton up to Wilkes was always a favorite.   That's about it - haven't been to Del Val for two and a half years - that last game was right before covid hit in 2020.   Missing everybody!!!

Just want to say how thankful i am for the huge way D3 hoops promote all D3 sports, particularly women's & men's basketball.   Since we've started following the Del Val Aggies in 1997, the popularity of those two games have gone up thanks to great coverage and announcing, not to mention the video presentation of the games!  It was so much appreciated especially in these last over two years of the covid pandemic!   Happy New Year to All and here's to the rest of the season free of injuries and with great weather to boot!   Go Aggies!

Hadn't been down to James Work is THREE years, but got down there today to see our beloved Aggies lose to King's 55 to 48.   Sad loss, of course, but good to see parity in our league.   Example, today, Stevens, who had just knocked off DeSales by a point on Wednesday night, LOST today to Misericordia!!!   No guarantees in this league for ANYBODY!   It was wonderful to see everyone today!!!

Good game tonight between our Del Val Aggies and the Lady Knights of Arcadia coached by former Del Val star, Jackie Hartzell!   Welcome home, Jackie and here's to a great game free from injuries.   Because of the crazy 8 pm starting time that would get us back to Easton past our bedtime, i'll be glued to  the laptop!

Hey Saratoga - positively love that you were watching a bit of the Aggie/Miseri game!    I just really appreciate that the Aggies played that game with pretty much eight players since our great Freshman, Lexi Wright, is still obviously not 100%.   That Team never gave up even after being behind so often - i still get chills just thinking about it.   The guys had a great game too!   I still keep an eye on you guys even though i will always miss those old MAC rivalries!   You're getting Wilkes next season too and we play them Saturday in a game with some consequences.

Fantastic Game yesterday at James Work Memorial Gym - our Aggies beat Wilkes University in the Colonels final MAC game, by a score of 70 to 31!   Both offense and defense were really on fire!   In addition to the great game, we saw Joe Anastasi, Dad of former Aggie Star, Eireann Anastasi Pizzico and Moira Donohue Abrams, a star of the 2004-08 Aggie Team.   An added bonus, Moira brought her two handsome Sons!   So good to see them ALL!   Now, Best Luck to our Aggies tomorrow night as they take on our very own Jackie Hartzell's Arcadia Lady Knights in a MAC play-off game!   The only downside of yesterday, was not hearing Gordon's call of that game.   The place was rocking!

At this stage of the game, for both halves of the MAC, i'm pulling for the Team that will go the farthest - love Jackie Hartzell's Arcadia squad and Alisa DiBonaventura Kintner's Pride, so if they feel like they can beat a Scranton, then by all means - Now, if DeSales and Messiah hang on and are the winners of each side, i'm o.k. with that too!   Good Luck to our Mighty MAC TEAMS!!!   Didn't mean to leave out Stevens Institute of Technology and Misericordia.

As the chips are settling for both sides of the MAC, i have to go with DeSales on the Freedom half and Messiah on the Commonwealth.   Stevens and Alvernia, both topnotch, but these are my two picks to go deep in the dance.

Congratulation to both Stevens Institute of Technology and DeSales University for making it to the NCAA's and representing the MAC.   Even though both teams lost, they played well and hard and did the MAC proud!   Looking forward to Del Val giving you stiffer competition in 23/24!   While on here, just want to thank our Del Val announcer Gordon Mann for another great year of calling our games and also, Chris Henry, our Sport's Information Director, for keeping us all up to date, very well i might add, with all the critical stats, rosters and game times and places of this past season.   Fantastic job Chris & Gordon!

Congratulations to Kentucky's Transylvania!   We watched the game and the Transy defense contributed to a ton of CNU turnovers.   Also a quick comment to Congratulate LSU who played an unbelievable game against the heavily favored Iowa Team!   Those LSU players were mostly transfers & somehow Mulkey molded them into a winning (big time) squad!   Transfers may mean more in D1, as many of those players are looking for a WNBA career.   I sometime question switching schools in D3, however, unless a Family is moving far from their student's current school, the student wants to play closer to home for whatever reason, or financial or academic issues that may keep said student out of the game.   Just my thoughts here this morning, and as always GO AGGIES!   The very Best of Luck with this upcoming 2023/24 season!

Already looking forward to the 23/24 season! Can't come soon enough. Just wondering what I'm going to do with my time now that there's no D3 hoops to watch haha.

Can't come soon enough for me as well.
Now we wait for additional info on freshman coming in, how injuries have healed, & those seniors that may opt for their 5th. year.  ;)
Stay healthy Kate.

Let's support our schools in every way possible, financially, by word of mouth and Social media, and touting the many attributes of our particular school's graduates!   Never take anything for granted!   Go Del Val, now and forever!

Good morning Saratoga!   This summer has started out weirdly enough - could you please tell me who???

O.K., just hope it's not Caitlin (Kings & a Belvidere HS grad who we've watched since her playing days at BHS), Fred, who is a mainstay at DeSales, or our very own Jackie Hartzell at Arcadia!!!   Just putting those names out there cause we DO feel a true attachment to those particular coaches.   Sorry for the disjointed post - it's been that kind of morning!   Thanks for the heads up Saratoga!!!

I will absolutely defer to Lefty & his administration to break the news but the word is most certainly out there.

Resignation...that's what it's being called??  ;)

Kate...those coaches are fine, no worries there.

Really looking forward to the Del Val Women's basketball schedule!   Admittedly, have slowed down with attendance (no more driving to those night games :(), but hopefully will be able to make several of the day outings!   Before the sport's season gets into full swing, just want to give a shout-out to the Aggies long-time, outstanding Coach, Laura Rotz Hogan!   Coach Hogan has had some incredible Teams these past over 25 years with many of her players going on to coach their own successful squads!   Notably, right off the top, Alisa DiBonaventura Kintner at Widener and Jackie Hartzell at Arcadia.   Sorry if i missed anyone this morning, but you all get the picture!

Just saw the schedule of a Landmark team - it genuinely breaks my heart to see Wilkes, our long, long standing MAC Freedom foe as a Landmark member.   Lycoming, too of course, but Wilkes hits hard - it's all for football i guess, but nonetheless sad to me.   Colonel John, if you're out there, did you ever think you'd see the day?

What's the word on the team for this season?
Hopefully, they'll have their roster posted by tipoff on the 10th.
Hope you & your husband are doing well & can make a few games this year.
Stay healthy.

Hi Saratoga!   Thank you so much for your kind words, and other than getting older by the second, we're fine.   We certainly hope that you are too!   Now, getting to the Aggie 2023/24 roster - I would definitely like to know right about now myself.   Kind of tired looking for clues on Facebook, and apparently, even though Chris Henry is still the Sport's Information guy, a new gal, Amanda Graham is in charge of women's basketball postings.   We given up night driving, so our first game won't be until December.   Good luck to Scranton this year.  Tough to tell how the MAC Freedom teams will do other than DeSales of course.   Again, hope you Scranton followers are all healthy and i'm sure you're looking forward to the season as much as we are.

O.K. D3 fans - next Tuesday, December 19th at 5 pm at DeSales University, there will be a battle between No.6 Scranton and No. 18 DeSales!!   The fact that we're just not young anymore very sadly keeps us home for that one and most certainly watching on here!  It will certainly be a hard fought contest!    Merry Christmas to ALL!!!

Thank you Ronk!   Going up Route 22 at that hour wouldn't be so bad for us, but coming home would be a bit tricky.   As i mentioned before, we don't go to any night games anymore.   We wouldn't miss an Aggie game on here however!   Thanks again for your good wishes!

This is a tough choice today at one - For me, DeSales and Coach Richter and Arcadia and Coach Hartzell are absolutely two of the best teams and coaches.   Hope the previous poster is right about the pool C bid for Arcadia should they lose this afternoon!   Fantastic basketball!

Big ups to Misericordia (including Lefty2 if he's lurking) for winning the D3baseball title!

MAC Freedom doesn't get too many national titles.

Thanks Gordon.  Baseball might be one of the toughest to win.  You have to win a minimum of 10 games in the NCAA Tournament.

It is a grueling event when you get to the Division III World Series, for sure. But baseball is actually maybe easier to win than most. Some food for thought:

In the automatic bid era, starting fall of 1999:

Seven conferences have had teams win the football national title.
Eleven conferences have had teams win the men's basketball national title.
Thirteen conferences have had teams win the women's basketball national title.
Fifteen conferences have had teams win the baseball national title.

Hi Saratoga, can you imagine how bummed I was and still am this morning after reading the news on here yesterday.   Such a lovely human being and fantastic Coach!   So, so many memories starting back to the 97-98 season!   We hardly missed a home game until age and that rotten pandemic.   I am so glad that we got to the final game of the season this past year.   She was a tremendous representative for the University and whoever DVU hires, they will have some huge shoes to fill.   Thank you so much for thinking about me.   Good luck to Scranton this coming season.

Saratoga you were 100% right - Del Val has hired Lauren Snyder Stackhouse as our new Coach at Del Val!   She graduated from the school in 2002 and has coached on several levels ever since.   Lovely person and an exceptional b'ball player.   Her bio is up on Del Val's site.   I could not be happier about the choice!!!

Hi Saratoga!   King's Coach Caitlin H. happens to be a grad of my high school, Belvidere!!!   She also graduated from Marywood, one of your Scranton schools, but to boot, she's definitely one of the good ones!!!   It really breaks my heart that Hubby & I won't be live in Lancaster on Saturday for OUR brand new Coach, Lauren Snyder Stackhouse, DVC class of 2002!   You'd better believe we'll be watching on here.   Good Luck to Scranton this season - have to admit, I haven't checked out your schedule or roster yet, but as the season gets rolling, I will.   Widener with our very own Alisa DiBonaventura opens with a tourney in your E'town on Friday night.   Anxious to see the stats on the Elias twins at E'town!

Hi Saratoga!   This does seem to be a down year for the MAC Freedom.   No doubt Del Val will rebound after Coach Stackhouse implements her first recruiting class.   If you've ever watched an Aggie game this season, you would know that every player on that small squad fights like the devil til the end!   I see that Scranton is doing super well this season!   Yes, we are watching the Aggies, but it does break my heart for not being there in person - age is catching up with us, although we are fine.   Thanks for thinking about us and sure hope that you & Ronk are well too!   Sorry to read about Coach Spirk and certainly hope that she can return to that sideline next season.

The Aggie Spirit was more than alive and well yesterday at the final regular season games for Del Val!   Yes, the women lost to DeSales (Congrats to Coach Richter and his Team), but everyone came out to honor Star guard, Haley Keenan in her last game for the school!   As a grad student athlete, she gave five incredible years to the Aggie program.   Her former coaches, Laura Rotz Hogan and Shannon Barlow were there, and her Coach (our new Aggie Coach, Lauren Snyder Stackhouse, a 2002 grad of the school) was so glad to heap accolades on this outstanding player.   Just a great and heart felt day in Aggie Land, complete with a guy's win to assure a play-off game this coming week!

Pretty impressive career for Haley at Del Val. Will leave as the program's third-leading scorer in career points, No. 2 in career field goals, and obviously the all-time leader in steals. 19-point, 16-rebound double-double on Senior Day as well!
