The D3baseball.com mock committee has posted its projected bracket including the Pool B and Pool C teams.
https://www.d3baseball.com/playoffs/2024/projected-playoff-bracket
Out in Region 10, the mock committee flew some teams around. If the committee wanted to save 2 flights, they could have placed the Pool A's Centenary LA (Shreveport LA), the SCAC Champ and Concordia TX (Austin), the ASC champion in the bracket, with projected Pool C's, ETBU and Trinity. ETBU would likely be hosting this.
To break up this "Texas" log jam, Centenary is sent to Louisville and Spalding, and Concordia TX is flown to Pomona-Pitzer.
Willamette (NWC) would fly down the coast for a best-of-5 at Pomona-Pitzer. Instead, the committee projects flying to ETBU, Marshall, TX which is 20 miles west of the Louisiana border.
Some goals in bracketing are:
1) break apart conference rivals and try to postpone rematches as long as possible.
2) try to balance the bracket with a perceived #1 playing a perceived #4 seed, and perceived #2 and #3 teams playing in the first round.
3) cut down on miles that parents and fans have to travel.
Selection criteria from the 2024 Baseball Championship Manual
Section 2•4 Selection Criteria
PRIMARY CRITERIA The primary criteria emphasize regional competition (all contests leading up to NCAA championships); all criteria listed will be evaluated (not listed in priority order).
● Win-loss percentage against Division III opponents.
● Division III head-to-head competition.
● Results versus common Division III opponents.
● Results versus ranked Division III opponents as established by the rankings at the time of selection.
● Division III strength of schedule. Contests versus provisional and reclassifying members in their second and third years shall count in the primary criteria.
Provisional and reclassifying members shall remain ineligible for rankings and selection.
Weighted Scale. Once the OWP and OOWP are calculated, they are to be combined on a weighted scale (e.g., 2/3 weight for OWP and 1/3 weight for OOWP) and this combined number becomes the strength of schedule.
SECONDARY CRITERIA If the evaluation of the primary criteria does not result in a decision, the secondary criteria will be reviewed. All the criteria listed will be evaluated (not listed in priority order).
The secondary criteria introduce results against out-of-region Division III and all other opponents, including those contests versus opponents from other classifications (i.e., provisionals, NAIA, NCAA Divisions I and II).
● Non-Division III win-loss percentage.
● Results versus common non-Division III opponents.
● Non-Conference strength of schedule.
Region 10: Birmingham-Southern gets a Pool C and is sent to the Transylvania regional where they will face the hosts in the opening game.
La Verne ends up being sent to Trinity for a best three-of-five. That winner goes to the super regional at CWRU.
P-P hosts Willamette in another best three-of-five, and that winner heads to Marshall to face the winner of the ETBU regional (ETBU, Centenary LA, CMS, Concordia TX).

Wow! All that respect to Region 10!
Of course I believe it is deserved, but it is nice to see it in tournament selections.
How about a bracket game!
One point for each first game winner.
Two points for each Regional Winner
Four points for each Super Regional Winner
Eight points for the Finalists
Fifteen points for the Champion.

When the brackets are set in Eastlake, we will take the teams each of have standing and predict the finalists and the champion.
So, something must have happened to Salisbury and Endicott. The teams in their regional are within 500 miles, yet they aren't hosting and the 2's are.
Wonder why they didn't bid and/or can't host?
My 1st thought... Are they hosting another activity this weekend?

Salisbury is hosting Softball, MLAX and WLAX this weekend.
That's a full weekend. But I believe they could have handled baseball as well. I was wondering the reason for the road trip. Commencement is May 22-23 (Wed-Thu), so that's not an issue.
Last weekend CNU hosted MLAX and WLAX in the NCAA and hosted C2C conference Tournament for baseball and softball and it was commencement weekend. It was crazy but manageable.
Could be hotels this time of the year. Graduations going on. Rates jump.
The NCAA probably thinks one school hosting three sets of championship play (even early rounds) is plenty.

True. This weekend, as CNU hosts Softball and Baseball, there is also Commencement for William & Mary, a Boo Williams AAU basketball event and some sort of major Gymnastics Competition. Hotels are at a premium in this area this weekend.
They couldn't have gotten the SCIAC more wrong if they'd tried. Guess the committee realized how powerful the top four teams are.
What do you mean by that first sentence?

Ralph,
How many Pool C teams qualified for Super Regionals this season? La Crosse and ???
UW-L, ETBU, B-SC, Randy Mac, La Verne, ... and I think those are they.
I am working on that post and should have more info later.
Salisbury and CNU from Pool B.
Thanks for asking.
B-SC gets a nice story in ESPN.com: https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/40196705/birmingham-southern-baseball-winning-school-closing

And BSC opens Supers with a 10-1 win over #2 Denison. This has all the makings of a Hollywood movie! Pretty incredible.
Let's go!!!
Everyone be sure to cheer on the team without a school.
Birmingham Southern goes at 4:15 central.

It is sadly an end of an era for the BS Panthers. They are going to be sorely missed in the upper echelons of D3 baseball and best wishes to the players and their families, you will be missed.
Would've love to see Birmingham in the final, such a great story.
Misericordia is so much fun to watch, they are so old school and exciting it's refreshing. Would love to see them against Salve. I might have a northeast bias. 😉
Congrats to Misericordia, who with their 10-5 win in the rubber match yesterday secured the school's first national championship in any sport. Good to see one of the little guys win a 'ship.
First 'team' sport title. We've won a few individual titles in swimming/track & field.
