Real tough home loss to IC for Grinnell tonight. On paper the officiating doesn't look so bad, but there were a number of terrible calls in the first half that gave IC all the momentum. The younger Coach Arseneault got T'd up in the second half and I am glad he got his words in... Grinnell was very cold and IC played some great defense, so I'm not blaming the loss on the refs - Grinnell was outplayed, but some poor calls turned the game into a blowout from the start.

What a year for Grinnell. I have been up here in Minneapolis and haven't seen a single game.
I am going to be home late Friday night though and will still be there on Saturday. So assuming Grinnell wins on Friday, how likely is it that I can get into New Darby on Saturday for the championship? Are they just going to let people in until it's full? I'd love to see them...

That Augsburg game was ugly. I stayed for the whole thing and the Auggies started to look better towards the end but the Oles seemed to improve even more. Being a student, there was too much socializing for me to make any specific observations. I think it will be a long season for the Auggies though...

scoo8b, one more thing...."20-30 recruits at the Augsburg football game this weekend?" Wow, if that's true the new coaching staff must be working extremely hard with the recruits.
Yeah, I did a doubletake too, but he confirmed it...

I talked to Coach Griess today for awhile. He had some interesting things to say. He said they are doing things radically different from what these players are used to and some who were on the team in past years no longer want to be. So I don't know for sure if people have quit or if they are just thinking about it. He didn't make it sound like there would be too many impact freshman this year, but he said he had a couple of juco transfers that will be elgible next year that will really help the team. He also said there would be about 20-30 recruits coming to the football game this weekend. It sounds to me like the expectation for the first year or two is to instill the right attitude back into the players, and from there, getting to the postseason will be expected, but at first, probably not...

I don't know any of Augsburg's incoming freshman players I don't think. Some of the freshman football players, but none of them are going to play...

By the way, I was told by some of the above that Coach Griess at Augsburg has also hired former Hamline assistant coach Shawn Stibbins as an assistant. Scoo8b, maybe you can confirm this?
I can perhaps if I get a chance to talk with him tomorrow (well, later today). I'm sure it's true though...

Coach Griess is my PE coach at Augsburg. I asked him why he left Chaminade for Augsburg and he said he liked Hawaii, but he was off of the island a minimum of 2 months a year since he was also the AD and he didn't get to see his family very much. That and the fact that he really liked what he saw at Augsburg, and that made him come here. He's a really cool guy and seems like a good coach, so hopefully the Auggies can return to the playoffs this year...
