Messages - Weak Safety

Thanks Ron, you're right!  I've been trying to ignore that situation hoping it would go away.

But I'll sleep great tonight either way!

"Nobody alive today remembers HSU playing in Sun Bowls."

Of course they don't!  That's the point and why I included a reference from the stone ages.  Past successes are awesome, but present success depends on the current players on the field.

You're absolutely correct, tradition helps recruiting, helps build mystique and intimidation, etc.  But in the end, the current players have to maintain.  If you have past success that does definitely help you get better players and put your team in the position to maintain dominance.

Better individual athletes don't always translate to a better team. UMHB has the tradition, the facilities, and an ideal location for recruiting.  None of that mattered this year.  The HSU game wasn't lost because of inferior talent. Discipline looked to be an issue though.

Do I like UMHB?  Of course not!  For quite some time, until this year, they've had the upper hand against the team I root for.  Do I respect UMHB?  Absolutely.  How could anybody not respect what they've built?

Will they return to dominance?  Time will tell. This season erased some of the mystique. Would I be surprised if they recover and return to form?  No.  As an HSU fan, I like the recent trajectory of both programs.

I enjoy having two great teams in the conference.  It's good for the conference and it's good for fans.

That said, it looks like Jordan Neal is doing great things at McMurry.  I wouldn't be surprised if they are in the conversation very soon.

Gaylon Glynn looked much less mobile this season. I was counting on his mobility in the HSU offense to be a bigger factor.

The early-season injury might have been a part of that.

Ran into Chad Grubbs on the way out who said they were down 3 starting OL before the game got underway.  That certainly had something to do with the lack of success running the ball or protecting Glynn.

That's a shame.

Good thing it wasn't a 6-4 team playing Trinity!

Rent free, I love it.

Says the guy whose team hasn't won a playoff game in 23 years while UMHB has won 3 natties in that time.

We had a young team, Coaches figuring out how to get them going when you don't have a National Semifinal offense. You are absolutely right. 6-4.

Next season will be here soon.

Thanks for the history lesson.  You're right, next season will be here soon.  HSU beating UHMB this season and playing in Sun Bowls in the 30's, 40's and 50's is history.  Won't help them next season any more than winning 2 National Championships in the past helped UMHB this year.

Good luck next year

I would think the offer should be valid for up to 18 months, no?

LOL, good catch!  Wait....was that a catch?  :D

Thanks Wally!  Really enjoy this thread.

Royal, I agree.  All three teams should win out.  I was just curious how fragile a really good UMHB team is with their SOS that seems to be lower than others.  Didn't know if that coupled with the loss of a RRO (not that I really see it happening) would keep them out.

I would love to see three TX teams in, if for no other reason than to allow one team to escape the TX sub-bracket.

The ASC/south could potentially be very interesting.

If TLU loses one of the last 2 games and HSU and UMHB win out, I assume TLU falls out of the regional rankings.  Does a 9-1 UMHB still make it in with what I assume would be a lower strength of schedule and dropping their win over a RRO? (I don't really know how those calculations work).

If HSU loses one of the last 2 games and UMHB wins out, who gets in?  9-1 HSU? 9-1 UMHB? Both?

Toby, I'm guessing that Ralph intended to say McM had a down week vs. ETBU.

As an HSU fan, I can say I was disappointed in the Cowboy Band's choice.  I know it is a crosstown rivalry and these are college kids trying to have fun, but I know how disappointing it is to hear, "Hey...Guess What....Crusaders just kicked your butt!" or "OVERRATED!." As a fan, it's no big deal to hear.  What gets to me a little is thinking of the players on the field hearing it after giving their best and playing their hardest the entire game.

Congrats to the Cowboys.  Have a nice week off and take care of business against LC!  I'll still be a fan of McM nine out of ten weeks.

I know you play them one game at a time but who on the cru's schedule is the next big threat?

Hardin-Simmons had three rb's rush for over 100 vs Louisiana College on 9/17/05:
Brad Clark - 112
Thurston Ashley - 107
Quinton Jones - 103

Good first game showing from the cats on a very good cowboy team that we could see later on this year???

Hopefully!  We need to get healthy quick!  Feaster and Robbins on the sidelines would be a huge blow to the offense.  Losing a preaseason all-american corner and our other starting corner week 1 doesn't help matters either.

Even with everyone healthy, I think Saturday would have been Linfield's day.  Coach Keeling described it in the Abilene Reporter News as a "good old fashioned country whoopin'."   It sounds like your offensive and defensive lines were pretty dominant.  You also have to be pleased with the play of your secondary.

One last thanks for the 4 game series.  It was great!  You definitely have the respect of this HSU fan.  Hopefully we can meet for game five later this year to break the tie!

Sporting News College Football magazine preseason magazine is out. UMHB is ranked #4 and HSU is #7.

Wouldn't that make for an exciting first round playoff match up!   >:( >:( >:(
