I guess my alma mater, Cortland State, got the short end of the stick! Should they survive Framingham State, they get Wesley, Mary Hardin-Baylor, then Mount Union all in a row just to make to Virginia!

BTW, if Cortland and Wesley advance, who's home?

You'd rather go through UW-Oshkosh and Linfield and St. Thomas?

Not trying to belittle your statements, but your first-round game is about as favorable as you can ask for, and the playoffs are about great teams beating other great teams. Nobody wins a Stagg Bowl by beating only cupcakes.

But what about my question at the end? No one answered it. If Cortland and Wesley both win, who would hose who on the Saturday after Thanksgiving?

Here's the NJAC tiebreaker rule:

Champion/NCAA Automatic Bid Determination

a.       The team with the best conference record in regular season play will be declared the conference champion and will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

b.       If two teams finish the season tied for first place with identical conference records, co-champions will be declared and the tiebreaker procedure listed in (A4c) will only be used to determine the conference's automatic qualification to the NCAA Tournament.

c.        In case of a tie for first place, the tiebreaker will be determined as follows:

     i.         Two teams tied:  The winner in head-to-head competition

     ii.        Three teams tied*:

          1.       Winner in head-to-head competition – team with best record against other two combined is declared champion

          2.       Results versus next highest ranked conference team (4th, 5th, 6th, 7th,  8th, 9th, 10th) until tie is broken

          3.       Opponents' opponents' winning percentage in all of Division III

          4.       Opponents' opponents' winning percentage in-region

          5.       Rose Bowl Rule

          6.       Coin toss (if 3 teams, odd team out advances

This was posted a couple of days ago and I assume it is correct.  Fran is the SID at Cortland.  If NJAC ends in three way tie, Ist head to head tie breaker is a wash. 2nd tie breaker is also a wash as all three will have beaten all other conference opponents.  Theat brings us to third tie breaker...opponents opponents winning percentage.

For Montclair that means the winning percentage of Westfield States opponents + Lycoming + Ithaca;

Rowan :Lycomings opponents + Ithaca + Westfield State

Cortland: Ithaca's opponents + Lycoming + Westfield State.

As of now the strength of the E8 and the fact that E8 only has 6 members favors Cortland.  Larger confefences of the NEFC and MAC will trend closer to .500 WP Because conference wins are nullified by conference loss.  E8 has fewer conference losses  and more OOC wins and if all holds true, will trend higher than the other two conferences. ...unless of course there are more bad losses like Alfred to UofR.

If that is true, then the current numbers are:

Montclair State: 57-46 (.5534)
Rowan: 52-45 (.5361)
Cortland State: 57-39 (.5938)

Which means that currently Cortland State is in the driver's seat for the NJAC title, if I'm right.

Pat Coleman:

In the daily Dose, you forgot to mention Cortland State as a Debutante in the women's poll this week. They debuted at #24 after winning 21 straight after losing their opener. I hope you correct that oversight.

I don't think the NY schools will knock each other out. I think 2 or 3 will make the D3 tournament.

Nice showing by New York schools.  Similar to the WIAC most of those teams will knock eachother out by years end. but good for now.

One small problem to your theory. Cortland has already played 3 of the 4 NY schools on its schedule and beaten them all. The only one left (on the NY side of the schedule) is Ithaca on Veterans Day.

Cortland probably will be 8-0 going into November. Its last 2 are at Rowan and the Cortaca game (at Cortland this year) v. Ithaca.

What took so long to get Cortland State into your Top 25? You seem to be one of the last ones to do so. ???

Cortland State got hosed! How in the world can Street and Smith's and Football Gazette be all wrong about the Red Dragons by ranking them in the top 25?

They're not wrong. These coaches are! C-State should be in the top 25! The poll will not be right this season until Cortland is there and stays there!
