The BC Eagle's football dynasty ended in '05, we just didn't get the memo until this past Saturday. While a 7-3 (or even 6-4 if Catholic gets an answered prayer) season is marvelous in comparison to BC seasons in the last half-century of the 1900s, it is still the weakest performance since the start of the new century. And therein lies the sadness faced by Eagle fans & players: exemplary performance became both the standard expectation and is almost impossible to secure year after year.

I choose not to cry in my beer, but to savor in the greatness we saw in the six-year run of the high-flying Eagles:
·  National runner-up in '01
·  A playoff record against the nation's top teams of 10-6
·  A winning W-L record against 8 playoff teams (losing record against only 3)
·  Knocked out in the first round of the playoffs in only one of those six seasons.

The accomplishments are an enviable standard for teams in and around the Old Dominion to admire, and desire. A new team carries the ODAC flag into the playoffs in less than two weeks—they have an awesome standard to uphold—best of luck to the winner of "The Game".

Pat & Pat Road Show?

My BAD !  I meant the Pat & Keith Road Show...which games will you two visit this coming weekend?

Any word on whre the "Pat & Pat Road Show" is going this coming weekend?  I know the winner of 'The Game" will draw a high seed in the playoffs, and possibly do the one-and-out, but sure would be nice for the D3 world to hear about "The Game" when it really means more than just central Virginia braggin' rights.

The No. 4 seed didn't seem likely but if they could get to No. 5 they might be in line for a decent first-round matchup.

I would think the regional rankings might look like this this week:

1. Washington and Jefferson
2. Mary Hardin-Baylor
3. Wesley
4. Muhlenberg
5. Salisbury
6. Trinity (Texas)
7. Waynesburg
8. Randolph-Macon
9. Ursinus
10. Hampden-Sydney

So it looks to me like these are the most likely first round opponents for the ODAC Champion:

#9 Washington & Jefferson College,  Washington, PA.  (369 miles from HSC)
#8 Wesley College, Dover, Delaware.   (270 miles from HSC)
#16 Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA.  (374 miles from HSC)
#11 Salisbury College, Salisbury, MD.  (291 miles from HSC)

Distances from Randolph-Macon to each of the above locations would be 30-90 miles fewer.

Algernon, I think you nailed the 4 most-likely hosts of the lone ODAC team.  W-Jeff will not play Waynesburg and Mary-Hardin Baylor is almost a sure thing to play Trinity (the annual Texas play-off game).

Yeah, I know it was written in 1851, but the last 3 lines of Lord Alfred Tennyson's poem "The Eagle" seems aimed squarely at BC's loss:

The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls;
He watches from his mountain walls,
And like a thunderbolt he falls.

Every D3 fan has to see the Trinity Tiger's last second victory play over Millsaps. I saw it on ESPN tv, saw it again on www.espn.com, then saw it a third time here, D3football.com (top of front page, "Daily Dose"). An amazing 15-lateral play that has generated a lot of D3 pub.

BC is not the dominant team it once was...and the ODAC has higher quality across the board.  Over the last 13 months BC has lost 4 conference games, to 4 different teams...the only two ODAC teams to not beat Bridgewater in the past two seasons are the two that remain on their schedule (RMC & Catholic) as the Eagles attempt to close out another 8-2 no-playoff season.

Well said Coach e h dad...we are all football fans here while FMFDOC and ABNRGR have moved to the playing field...they will connect with the winning play: the 'ole Statue of Liberty play.

Allsky7 said: The 2001 team may have had "moxie" (I'm sure I will get some grief on this) but if you take the QB, RB, & WR (names escape me) off that team, they are good but not a great team. (IMHO)

Yeah, it was a 'skill-heavy' team. No talent from meaty foks on that team such as Jermaine Taylor (1st team All-American in '02 & '03, LB), Mike Day (2nd team All-American in '01 & 3rd team in '02, OL), Lonnie Parker (2nd team All-American in '01, LB), Ranardo Whitaker (Honorable Mention All-American in '04, OT). Seems center Matt Huffman got some national award too, just to name a few of the non-glamour positions.  The team was loaded !

Question of the day? How many more wins will it take Bridgewater to get to .500 against E&H in the series?

Answer:  BC needs exactly one less win than it needed last Friday, and six less wins than it needed seven years ago.  And counting......

Hey miz...before hasanva sees it, I think the word FEWER is correct, in place of LESS, when we can count things...but, you are speaking about E&H where they usually cannot count attendance, so I guess LESS is correct down there.

Quote from: hasanova on October 19, 2007, 10:14:39 AMWhile we're on the subject of why I can't come tomorrow, I have a few words of wisdom for the groom, who is my girlfriend's coworker.  Sure, your team may have a bye tomorrow, but mine doesn't.  I would have serious reservations about getting married to someone who suggested an October wedding, on a Saturday ... at 1 pm.  Dude, what are you thinking?  There were so many other viable options!   We are now reviewing your "man card" status.  lol  :)

As the Dali Llama so eloquently puts it..."there is a finite number of football Saturdays each season.  You miss one, you can't ever get it back"

My condolences :'(

Exactly.  Thank you for your condolences.  lol  Karma for you.  There are only five home games ... and there are 21 other hours in those days!  I'm even willing to give up a road game.  I bought season tickets.  Five Saturdays.  That's all I ask.  I also missed W&L's last trip to Greensboro in 2005, so I'm looking at a 6-year gap to see the Quakers play the Generals in Greensboro.  The food better be good tomorrow!  :)

The solution is an iPhone as they trade lies...I mean vows...hooked to the D3football.com in-game updates...

Did the Harrisonburg Daily News-Record get into our fun chat about the E&H attendance padding, or was it an honest mistake?  The Monday paper reported the BC/Guilford attendance at 23,691 ! I am sure this is an error. I was at the game and I am sure the attendance was something below 20,000.
