Please tell me that's a joke about Capital's offensive line???? I know a former coach at Capital and he told me once that the ONLY reason Cap got any all league selections on the o-line was because they HAD to because they finished so high in the league!! Anybody who was at those Cap/Mount games knows the reason the games were close were because of Pentello's ability to make plays through scrambling and to stand in there and take shot after shot!! Just out of curiousity speaking of supporting casts, how many All League or All Americans has Cap had at the WR or TE position before OR after Pentello??? And the Arth playing in the NFL argument??? I was watching college basketball last night and the 2 players of the decade they chose were Jay Williams and Tyler Hansborough, and the player they chose the decade before that was Christian Laettner!!! How did they do in the NBA??? My point is we're talking about COLLEGE CAREERS!!!

Ok, I'm going to give my two cents now in terms of the quartback discussion. Now granted I'm wearing the Cap goggles!!! lol. I'm going to start with a question to all Mount posters, If Rocky were on that 2007 team instead of Greg do you beat Whitewater? IMHO the answer is without a doubt yes!! In fact with Rocky throwing to Pierre and Cecil behind that line AND handing the ball off to probably the best rb ever in DIII I think Mount wins by 20+!!! Keep in mind I saw that same Whitewater team play my Crusaders and I would go as far to say that Cap beats Whitewater with Rocky! I was at both the 06 playoff game between Mount and Cap and the 07 game between Mount and Cap and I can say in my opinion Michelli is probably the 7th or 8th best qb I saw in the decade!!(granted I'm sure those 2 games weren't 2 of his better) I know this might upset a few Mount people but I beleive in the 06 playoff game he was something like 1-5 for 4 yards??? And the quote "DIII Heisman" isn't given to just the best player!! They take other things into account because last time I checked Nate Kmic was probably the best player!!! On to my Arth argument. I graduated from Cap in 02 so I saw Arth play 3 times. He should be mentioned but I don't know how you could make a realistic argument for him over Rocky. Pentello has better numbers across the board AND he took Cap to the quarterfinals twice!! Losing to Mount twice by 3 points!! If I'm not mistaken Arth went to the playoffs once and his team got beat by Mount by 40+???? And, I've never seen Pentello throw a swing passs out of the back of the endzone for a safety!!! lol. Let's not forget were talking about a team known as "Crapital" before he got there!!

SaintsFAN:  You've got a good memory.  And you remember correctly.

K-Mack:  You're always welcome here.  Even if you're a week behind. ;D

There was talk (and I mean actual "talk", not on-line) mid-season that the new Capital president has a track record of de-emphasizing athletics at every college he's been at.   And if that was really true at Capital, the first sign would be Jim Collins quitting becuase he's too good of a coach and way too competitive to sit by and watch his program slowly crumble.  That's too bad because Capital had become a real threat to the OAC throne.

From my understanding with talking to other alumn, the new President (along with the interim AD) does a pretty good job of de-emphasizing athletics...when he first got to Cap, they were in a pretty good hole financially.  He made some cuts to get out of the debt Cap was facing while serving as the interim president, and has made his legacy with that (hence his official hiring this past October).  I really hope he understands the importance of d3 athletics, because back in the 90's if you didnt play womens basketball or womens soccer, you weren't looked upon as an athlete (no matter all the work & dedication you put in as a player).  Roger Welsh did a good job of starting what needed to be done in order to bring Capital to the top of the OAC & having a national presence in d3, by building a new athletic facility.  The rest of the institution did its share with the new renovations Capital so badly needed in order to compete with other institutions (athletically & academically)!!  I surely hope Welsh's retirement as AD & Collins resignation was not in part becuase of President Bowman or Dr. Brunning (Interim AD)?!?!

Posted the last without reading through what I had missed...

Interesting about Coach Collins.  I hope he doesn't go.  He would certainly be missed if he does.  I'm sure he will make the decision that is best for his career and his family, however.  If he does go, I'm sure success will follow him.  He is too good a coach and person for it not to.  He has brought Cap to national prominence and I would think it would continue if he stayed.

I would guess, if he does leave, that Bickel would be the front runner to replace him?  He has been the mastermind behind the Cap D and knows the system and players.  I would think he would be able to continue the recent run of success at Cap as well as anyone.

This is very weird talking about this...but, does Bickel stay or go with him??  I am sure he will get a chance to interview, but can he recruit as well as Collins did??  Collins is a young & energetic coach, just as the newly hired OAC Coaches, that gets out and does a pretty good job of recruiting the players he wants to fit into his offensive system!!

just heard from a very reliable source that Capital Football Coach Jim Collins will be offered the Saginaw Valley State Football Job later this week after he meets with the president .....................Stay Tuned........

Now that is interesting news...heard hear first!!  Throughout the past few years, my sources have informed me he was looking elsewhere...I was informed he interviewed for a D1 Ivy League School two years ago, but did not get the job...so, with these rumblings, this could be true...but until I hear it from someone affiliated with Capital University, SVSU, or JimCo. himself, he remains the Crusaders Head Coach!!

Merry Christmas to all, and have a Safe & Happy Holiday!!

Anyone care to guess what CAPs defense will be able to hold THE BEAV to in rushing yardage? My guess is that they will keep him relatively in check. They were able to play in MUCs backfield more than anyone else this season, and I think that will be the case again this week at Wisky Whitewater. They just need to score with their defense and special teams to help out the offense. I guess Im a CAP backer. For one week at least. ;)

Only 1 week?? If they pull the upset, you better be cheering for them if they keep winning until they play MUC in the Stagg Final...where's he love ;)

26:  Without the injuries, I'd like your chances this Saturday.

This is why MUC will always be an elite team...depth does wonders to a team!!  I just wish we had some young, talented players that could step in & fill in where needed (i.e., when you have to rely on a DE (senior) to replace the starting RB (sophomore) b/c of the lack of productivity/injuries, that is not good)!!

At any rate, I will be cheering on Cap from beginning to end...win or lose!!

I have not predicted an Ithaca win, but you guys give the impression that Ithaca can not provide opposition to MUC....look no farther than '06....Fisher played with you!!!

And many of us were worried about how we'd match up against Fisher, given some key injuries that were being whispered about at the time.

Sorry, but I don't sense anybody here is all that concerned about the match ups this Saturday.

I am very concerned with the matchup we have on Saturday!!

Mount fan here, but I'm surprised I haven't seen any Cap posters over here. Congrats on the #1 seed and move to the North. It looks like the Warhawks are putting together a nice little dynasty. WWW should move through this region with limited resistance. If you're like us, it's nice to see some new teams in the playoffs. I suspect St. John's could not be happier as well.

Cap is an outstanding defensive team. They are very athletic with a stud D-line and shut down corner. Their offensive was pretty good until they lost their starting QB and WR to season ending injuries. They just haven't been able to adequately replace these two and their offense has really struggled as a result. Their "D" may keep them in the game but I think they will need a little help in the turnover dept to have a chance to pull it out. I think Cap must keep WWW under 20 points to have a shot at this thing. Had Cap been healthy this could have been a great one.

Thanks for the analysis Shark. We've been hearing the same stuff regarding their defense being strong, but their offense has been struggling late. If they were healthy, it would be a great matchup. however, i doubt UWW and Cap would be playing each other in the first round if Cap was healthy

My thoughts exactly...or, at least not in the 1st round!!

I think a healthy 07 team would do very well in this bracket.  I do feel much better with Thayer at QB.  He had a very solid game vs BW.  Tough draw for the Crusaders,  again they will have to lean on their great defense and hopefully come up with some big plays on O and special teams.

I would expect for Thayer to see a lot of man, so I hope his receivers do not get jammed at the line & can make some plays for him...the running game will be non-existant, but for cap to win this one, they will need to run the ball somewhat effectively (c'mon O-Line this is your time), & win the turnover battle with the defense &/or the special teams making some plays to put points on the board...from what I have gathered, this is the best WWW defense the past 3 seasons & the offense has finally got it together with the transfer qb...I'll cheering for ya Cap, keep it close & lets pull one out in the 4th!!

I knew you had a "good" post in you...

I too wish Capital the best since I didn't mention them in my previous post.  It will be a tough one playing up in cheeseland and they definitely need to find some offense.

Toph and CAP fans

I was watching part of the Williams/Amherst game Saturday and couldn't help but think Capital could have used another receiver with all their injuries this year and they had a pretty good one in their own backyard that got away in 6-5 TE from Williams, Jon Carroll from Bexley, OH.  Of course they would have had to get over his horribly unattractive name and all.  He looked pretty solid and had 3 catches for 32 yards in the win.  It was just a little funny to hear the announcers mention Bexley, OH in the telecast and then taking into consideration his name in light of recent discussions made it even more memorable.  Who knew there were so many Jo(h)n Carroll's that still played football (unlike that Jesuit university in U Heights) ;)

Williams also has a Frosh DB from Worthington, OH (northern suburb of Columbus)...did you know, he has a brother that is a Sr. DB that plays on the MUC Football Team...any takers???
