There are actually 2 Carroll schools:  Carroll University in Wisconsin, and Carroll College in Montana.

I agree with Pat.  Carroll (MT) seems to have never played the University of Chicago.

Hence, a Gagliardi-affiliated college seems to have never played an Amos A Stagg-affiliated college -- until now.
(And yes Stagg Sr. was coaching at Susquehanna with his son Stagg Jr.)

So it seems this Saturday we will finally witness in Collegeville, MN a very first meeting between schools once affiliated with two of the greatest college football coaches of all time.

As a Johnnie alum now living out East, I can state emphatically that my Susquehanna alum/friends with deep football roots also view this meeting as a most momentous and humbling occasion involving the intersection of our two great football coaches.

Actually, JR and Father both coached football at Susquehanna University.

I quote:

In 1945, Stagg joined his son, Amos Alonzo, Jr., as a coach at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. In order to be near his ailing wife, Stagg began coaching punters at Stockton Junior College in 1953, and he finally retired in 1960 at age 98. Stagg's recognized career record at Springfield, Chicago, and the College of the Pacific is 314–199–35, and he had 21 additional victories as Susquehanna. Stagg died on March 17, 1965 in Stockton, California.

As stated "He had 21 additional victories at Susquehanna."   ;D

Speaking of Susquehanna, is there any discussion about this being is the first time a famous Amos Alonso Stagg team is playing against the famous John Gagliardi team? Two of the most famous football coaches in the history of football and finally their teams are meeting up?

Johnnie -- I'm not quite following your trivia question. Can you explain it a different way?

ok, the 9 schools TMU has played thus far this year are from the states of:

NC, IN, WI, AL, NY, VA, MN, OH, and PA.  [9 games against 9 schools from 9 (uniquely) different states]

So, I conclude 9 games against 9 schools all from 9 different US states.  (that seems a bit unusual to me)

Furthermore, TMU is located in the state of KY.

So they not only played schools from 9 different states, but not one of those 9 states was against a school from their 'home' state.

So, they have a streak of 9 straight games of playing a school from a different state then each prior opponents' state

So,  do they have a scheduling 'plan' to NOT play opponents located in their home state,  as well as NOT playing against a subsequent opponent whose location is a state in which they've already scheduled an prior opponent from the same respective state for that year)

(unless of course, the state is MN, since SJU will break their 9 game 'unique' state streak)

No.  They've had trouble finding regional d3 opponents to play TM since the mid-90s.  During my time as a player we played some d3, but also many 1-AA (how it was known back then), d2 and NAIA schools.  Before my time they played at Montana, who was defending 1-AA Champs at the time, I believe. The D3 schools played in my time there included ASC, WIAC, Albion, and Il Wesleyan and teams in NY.  Take a look at their historical schedules on the Thomas More website.

Their biggest rival, MSJ, has quit The Bridge Bowl twice now.  Some of this is related to a big fight at the conclusion of a game at Hanover in 1993 and some was how some didn't like the HC.  The program has always seemed to be regarded as renegade.

The school first sponsored football in 1991 and didn't have an on-campus home stadium until 1999, so they've always traveled, even to Home Games during those years.

My guess is that TMU must have played the Griz about 1996.
After SJU, I went to Montana State and the Bobcats and Griz were always big rivals.
The Griz were awesome during the 90s.

Since I live in WV, I went to that Griz v Marshall game in 1995 for the I-AA championship in Huntington, WV.

I only hope that Montana was kind to TMU.

Hey, to all the trivia Schwab-type gurus out there.

Is it just me, or is Thomas More the first D3 team in D3 history to play all 9 of their first 9 games in a single season against schools each located in a different US state than the previous schools played during the course of that season?

So, my question is:  What famous D3 school halted the infamous Thomas More 'streak' at 9 games?

On a side-note, I think they will continue their streak of now 10 games of not playing a team from their home state.

So, does anybody have any insights into this trivia?   ;D

I thought I knew the answer, but then you called the D3 school "famous" instead of mediocre,  backwoods, or belligerent. So now I'm not so sure.

haha.  Would you settle for "infamous" instead?

B) I'm from North Dakota (but if I lived in South Dakota it would be the Black Hills or Rapid City, not Sioux Falls);

"Whaddya got against Sioux Falls?" says the guy that currently resides there.

Always loved Sioux Falls.
Often carpooled with fellow Johnnies and Bennies from Sioux Falls and Mitchell (my home town) during the late 60s and early 70s.
During that time many a 19 or 20 yr old Minnesotan drank their first beer in SD when they crossed into SD near Sioux Falls / Brookings.
I still remember how the Minnesota girls always got prettier at closing time. ;D

Sorry for fat shaming the fictional CSB alums having a fictional NCAA watch-party at Jenny Craig in Richfield. I know the fictional CSB alums are fictionally disadvantaged because their fictional thyroid glands produce too little fictional thyroid horomone, causing their fictional metabolism to fictionally slowdown. It is in no way the fault of those fictional CSB alums that they are so fictionally fat. I know, with a lot of hard work and a positive mental attitude these fictional women can re-calibrate their fictional lifestyles and live long and healthy fictional lives.

I will think about all of the fictional women I have hurt and examine my own misogyny against women who in no way exist. I know if they were real, their feelings would be hurt. This weekend, I intend to devote my time not to football, but to auditing every online course on fictional women's empowerment I can find on the California-Berkeley website.

I know this kind of locker room talk maligning women that don't exist has no place on a football website, and for that, I apologize.
Wow, I didn't realize to what extent you think I don't exist. Last time I checked I am not fictional. Nice job doubling down!

On a side note, why is it that "we" make fun of Bennies' weight, Tommie women for being slutty and Johnnies for being gay? Why are any of those things something to ridicule? This isn't directed at Bench. It is kind of something directed at all of us in these communities. I have definitely made comments about Tommie women in the past, but have stop (even during Tommie/Johnnie week). I am not trying to be a buzzkill, but I just don't understand how in this day and age any of these "jokes" are funny.

I honestly had zero idea you were going to watch the SJU/NCC football game at the Jenny Craig's in Richfield. Sorry.
Yes, that is the take away.

Well, judging by your response, you don't seem to understand how a fictional narrative works. You see, it's a broad-sweeping generalization based on a several generations of good-natured institutional ribbing. Not a shot at you, a human person, with, near-as-I-can-tell, a lot of feelings.

You see, in this situation, "Johnnie" said he was going to be in Minneapolis and wanted to know if any SJU/CSB alums were gathering to watch the big game. For a Friday afternoon jape I gave the address of the Richfield Jenny Craig, a place where people get dietary advice and instruction on how to lose weight and live a healthy lifestyle. The joke of course being, the implication that some overweight CSB alums would be there watching the game.

Of course this patently absurd as 1) everyone knows CSB alums would be at McDonalds, not Jenny Craig; and 2) who watches football at Jenny Craig? 3) IT'S A JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKE.

Lighten up.

Since I very very infrequently post on this message board, let it be known that I believe this is the first time in the entire history of the D2 message board that a poster named Johnnie responded to a poster named bennie, an event that is long overdue given the Johnnie/Bennie history.

Let it be further known that when I chose the poster name of Johnnie going back maybe 15 years ago, that other posters would then almost always refer to me as "Johnnie" with quotation marks to distinguish me from Johnnies in general.  For that, I apologize to the Johnnie nation.   Go Johnnies!

Just spoke with another Johnnie alum that lives here in Brookings. He just purchased 40 tickets for his family and some classmates to the Johnnie-Tommie Game at Target Field.

Not the one and only TY ?  :)

Last Saturday's Wall Street Journal had a nice review of the book 'Rise and Fire' by Shawn Furry.

I apologize in advance if this has already been pointed out by the more astute amongst us.

Any predictions?

I gotta go with Mount 31,  UST 24

(UST needs to get a bit lucky at times, and Mount need a few more mistakes if UST expects to win)

Luck!?  :o :o How dare you!
:P :P

Well, believe it or not, I will be rooting for St. Thomas, and if the truth be known so will a lot of Johnnies.

I just don't know how much Tommie 'magic' will be required.

I'll be the first to eat crow if it turns into a Tommie rout... :D ;D :o
