I really look forward to next season, minni.  HSU's resurgence is great for the league.  It would not surprise me at all if a similar scenario plays out again next year.

On that note Minni, what is your feeling on how the Cowboys will move forward? If nothing else replacing Jessie Ramos will be extremely difficult but Sloan and numerous members of that powerful D line will also be gone.

My feeling was this team was "old".  Lots of available positions going to be open to compete for starting this spring.  But, I have no doubt coach Burleson and his crew will get these guys ready to compete at an extremely high level.

I realize many have moved on from Saturday, but I need to say Congrats to both teams for the success they have had this year.  I was in attendance for a majority of the game on Saturday.  I left early about mid way through the 4th as the little guy was getting cold and I was getting frustrated.  The HSU defense got flat wore out.  The UMHB defense did what they had to do in getting the HSU offense off the field and the UMHB offense just wore the HSU defense out.

I was concerned at 20-7 in the second half, but thought if HSU fixed a few things I didn't think they were out of yet especially getting the wind in the 4th quarter.  HSU's offense needed desperately to sustain a drive and give the defense a break but the UMHB defense was not having it.  Turnovers, turnovers and turnovers.  Questionable decisions by HSU players and a much better UMHB defense in the second half led to the demise of HSU.

Congrats and good luck to UMHB the rest of the playoffs.(I say this through gritted teeth)

I think UMHB got hurt by the first RR coming out right after UMHB lost to HSU and that the committee never really considered switching the two, even though they probably should have.

No, they shouldn't have. Same records, HSU has a better SOS and the head-to-head win. Cut and dried.

Pat, arguing with a UMHB fan about HSU being better is pointless.  It always an excuse.  Most have been making them since the loss.  Some have given credit to HSU, most have stated complacency, or they just weren't ready.  Hell MU has won 100+ regular season games in a row, nobody crying complacency up there.  Get over your high and mighty "look at me, I'm UMHB" self.  Can't wait to hear the excuses Saturday night after a loss.

Saturday, No excuses allowed.

One exception to the no excuses right? I seem to have seen some about rain lately.

Never once did I make an excuse about the rain or the mud.  Best I remember ETBU played in the same conditions.  They were better, that day at that time.  Play them 9 more times and I bet they don't win.  But they did that day.

All of us didn't make excuses about UMHB losing to HSU either, HSU won fair and square. They earned the right to host the game and we will see who is better that day.

I invite you to go back and read the post, I am quite certain I did not say ALL fans.  I did say most.

I agree that they shouldn't have switched.  HSU won h2h and that's it.  I believe UMHB will drill them this week, but HSU deserved the higher playoff seed for sure.  If you begin to think things like "UMHB blasted the team that beat HSU therefore they should be the higher team," or "HSU only lost to ETBU due to the field conditions so that game shouldn't have an impact" then why would the committee not think "TLU lost to HSU very late in the game and lost to UMHB as a result of 4 plays that resulted in TD's so they should be in too".  That opens too many doors.  You win or lose, period.

Someone with some football common sense!!!  +1 Karma

I know there are minds greater than mine out there.  What is the best scenario for HSU this week and dare I say, making the playoffs??

Here's a deep dive take for you-  best thing Hardin-Simmons can do this week is win.  Not winning would knock them out of the playoffs and in a lot of ways flush that big win over UMHB, which would be unfortunate.  That should pay off with a postseason game.

We'll need to wait and see what the South's regional rankings look like on Wednesday for a more nuanced analysis.   :)

El Capitan Obvious....thanks for your great input!!

Freakin Crow sucks

Battered and fried is better than stewed or sauteed. it happens to all of us at times.

I got an old Louisiana buddy that says he can make it taste just fine!!!

I was sorely disappointed on Saturday.  I truly thought my ole' alma mater had taken a turn.  Thought they had, had enough of being mediocre.  I love HSU and for what it has done for me.  I still believe and Coach Burleson and his staff and I know they will take the sting of Saturday and use it as a growing opportunity.

Good Pool C discussion going on in the General Discussion area of the board.  Lots of different views from the up north guys.
