I was at the H-SC/LaGrange game on Saturday and was impressed with the Tigers.  It's a new look and feel from last year (the new faces being the least of that), but there seems to be a lot to look forward to.  The first half was an impressive show, and - although no one expects them to average 74% for the season- it wasn't a fluke.  The Tigers had good ball movement, open shots, and Jonathan Mudd brings a new element to the Tigers offense that brings back memories of Marcus Gregory.  They slowed down some in the second half, but once the team gets more comfortable with the new system it should be a lot of fun to watch.

On another note, I hope VWC can get it together this season.  I don't like to see any ODAC team struggle, but the Marlins certainly did against Maryville.  They are young, but look like there is some real talent that could cause some trouble for the rest of the conference later in the season; however, this could also turn out to be a rebuilding year.

It looks like thats the end of the ODAC season in Georgia, but I hope to make it up to VA to see a few games early in 2009.

I'm a little late to the conversation, but it should be rememebered not only the range of quality in DI teams, but also the range of quality in players on those DI teams.  It's possible for a DIII reserve to serve the same role on a high quality DI program.  Just look at Surry Wood.  He spent two years at H-SC where he rarely left the bench; he then transferred to UNC where he served the same role, but on a team that even H-SC fans have to admit is better than any Tiger squad to ever hit the floor at Fleet.

It's all relative.

QuoteNo doubt about the fact that Dee Vick is an exceptional recruiter.  As assistant coach at HSC from 1994 to 1999, he was involved in the recruiting of the entire 1999 DIII National Finalist team  of Garst, Hobbs, Robbins, Grimes, Harris, Jirak, and Fox, etc..  In 1998-99, he helped recruit Brooks, Gregory, and the other seniors that went on to play in the Final Four in 2003.  So it's understandable that, when Tony Shaver went to William and Mary, his first hire was Dee Vick.

Dee Vick also had something to do with a decent player by the name of Jeff Monroe coming to H-SC!

I think Coach Vick returning to H-SC is going to be a bigger deal than most non H-SC fans think.  Coach Smith had a nice run, but his two most successful seasons (barring his first year with Jeff Monroe, Brandon Randall, etc) were the two seasons he had an amazing recruiter (Chad Warner) bringing in the class.  Vick is at least as strong a recruiter as Warner and after his years playing for and sitting beside Tony Shaver he should know something about X's and O's as well.  He has some work to do this summer before anyone should get too excited about next year, but there should be a significant change in the type of play coming out of H-SC before too long.

Sorry to hear Bubba is moving on from H-SC, but I think the AD should be looking at William and Mary to bring Dee Vick back to Fleet.

Guilford topped Emory 82-67 behind Strong's 28 points and 15 rebounds.  Looks as though Clay Henson had another good game with 18 points, including 4 of 9 behind the arc.  Belkoski's stats look solid as well with 15 points.  Incredibly, Emory had 50 FT attempts, but only hit 31 (62%).  The Eagles started the game 4 of 27 from the floor and finished at 23.5%.  Meanwhile, GC shot 45.2% from the floor.  The Quakers improve to 6-2 while Emory drops to 7-4.

Huge game at Ragan-Brown Wednesday night versus Hampden-Sydney!  Go Quakers!

I was at the game yesterday, and was easily one of the longest games I have ever watched.  Emory lived at the FT line, but as the box showed they couldn't hit anything.  Guilford had a huge size advantage over the Eagles and used it to their advantage.  Strong looked a little shaky against the double (or triple) team at times, Kimbrough's emotions got the better of him at one point, but Belkoski, as usuall, always seemed to be in the right place at the right time.  Overall a good effort by Guilford.  From the few games I've seen down here in GA this is a strong year for the ODAC.

Also, the Guilford crowd at the game was amazing.  The Quaker nation should be proud.
