It has been years since I have posted (surprised I remembered my login), but I wanted to send some congratulations towards the Vikings of North Park and especially the seniors who have been working towards a CCIW victory for 4 years.  Great day for the North Park program, Alumni and the CCIW!

Perusing the all-decade selections, I was startled by one name that did NOT appear.  Can there possibly have been 12 LBs better than Matt Wenger??!! :o

Nonetheless, congrats to the CCIWers who DID make it:

1st team: J. D. Sheldon (Augie), Blaine Westemeyer (Augie), Pete Ittersagen (Wheaton; he was ALSO 2nd team as a return specialist)

2nd team: Mackenzie Hay (Augie), Andy Studebaker (Wheaton)

3rd team: Mike Clark (Augie)

[With all those Augie guys, how did they not win 6-7 titles! :D]

Its hard to imagine that Wenger didnt crack the top 12 LBS of the Decade.  He was a 2nd team All-American as a Junior and a 1st teamer as a Senior as well as DPOY for D3football.com  (i wont get into outside publications, like being an AFCA 1st team All American twice because this a a d3football.com team), 3 time All-Region award winner, North Region DPOY as a senior,  2 time DPOY in the CCIW, 3 time 1st team All Conference player, was on a team that won 4 Conf titles and went to the playoffs all 4 years he played (including ending his senior year as the #3 ranked team in the nation).  I did read that the DPOY was only around since 2006, so some of those LBs probably didnt have the chance to earn it...either way, I would put him in the top 12 of the decade especially if 2010 goes into the voting.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Mount Union community, a very tragic event.  I know how close athletes get to the athletic trainors and I am sure this was no exception.

Saw this story and even though it involved the Mount Union Wrestling Team bus, I know that a lot of wrestlers are also football players.  This is something that we don't want to think about when traveling...

Thats terrible..Thoughts and Prayers go out to the Mount Union athletic training staff and all those involved.

How neat to be able to turn on the TV and see Pete and Andy on live NFL game. Guys that I have shook hands with and had a conversation with.  That is pretty cool.

Cool article about this.

Pete Ittersagen has been placed on the 53 man active roster for the Titans.

So question... is this the first time there have been 2 active NFL players from the same D3 school?

The Titans visit the Chiefs next weekend...If Pete stays on the active Roster, that would be one heck of a recruiting picture for the Wheaton Thunder.    Studebaker and Ittersagen side by side on an NFL field.

I would think Wenger is a strong candidate for d3 dpoy

He definitely has a strong case.  He was the dominant force on one of the best defenses in Division 3 this year.   Every team had to game plan on how to stop #40.   Last years D3 DPOY was on a 12-0 team that lost in the quarterfinals as well.  I believe the nation has seen enough of Wenger to know how great of a player he is and that could give him enough edge to win the D3 DPOY.

Congrats to all CCIW All Region Players and their respective teams.   A great year for Wenger that was rewarded nicely with the DPOY.   I wonder if Coach Thorne was a runner up for COY?  Maybe Pat can answer that for us.

Ittersagen signed back to practice squad in Tennessee.

From NFL.COM..

Tennessee Titans  12/8 Pete Ittersagen (CB) practice squad addition.
Dominique Edison (WR) practice squad deletion.

Before this board goes kind of quiet off season I want to take the opportunity to once again thank all the posters on this board for having our backs during the seeding debate and troughout the playoffs. Most of you supported us better than most of our own for gosh sakes. Pretty cool! Thanks and looking forward to another GREAT year in the CCIW next season!

Great point CardinalDad, I am going to go ahead and throw a bunch of Karma out for that to everyone who posted..Thanks, and we will be anxiously awaiting the all-american teams!

Delaware is a heck of a lot longer than Naperville, it will be interesting to see how many Warhawk fans make the trip.

Just a quick rundown of the Seniors on NCC's squad (according to the NCC website):

Nick Hicks - WR/RB
Derek Sulo - DB
Valente Garza - DE
Joe Schneiderbauer - LB
Steve Hlavac - WR
Scott Hogan - DB
Shaun Wild - K/P
Matt Wenger - LB
Jeff Grunwald - TE
Drew Borczak - DT
Jeremy Schaub - OL
Kyle Antos - OL
Tom McGinnis - WR
Kyle Fiedorowicz - TE

Sorry about Hlavac. I had it down wrong but should have remembered his freshman year when he beat Franklin on the last play!

As far as coming back I know these guys definitely played 4 yrs of football:

Hicks, schneiderbauer, sulo, hogan, wenger, grunwald, schaub, antos, borczak, McGinnis

The possibles are:
Kane Thompson, onlybplayed 2 games in 09
Fiedorowicz, only played 3 yrs
Wild, only played 3 yrs
Garza, 3 yrs at NCC, no clue what he did at COD or other prior to NCC

These are all impact players to varying degrees so any of them who return makes NCC that much stronger.

I'm sure Wheaton people would love to see Fiedorowicz back again!   ;) ;D

Fiedorowicz IS interested in returning in 2011.

Well lets hope he does!

Ugh,  this loss to UWW won't sit well for a while.   When you look at the turnovers that ultimately led to NCC losing this game, you have to give credit where it is due.  UWW's forced fumbled was a good play by them.  They pass that was tipped at the line of scrimmage and then picked off by the same guy was a good play by them.  The tipped pass to our TE was well defended...its just really frustrating to have a team of NCC's caliber with the talent to get to the title game (and represent the CCIW) come up short.

I also appreciate your giving credit where credit is due and I want to return the favor.  In the world of D-3, Saturday was a big stage and the Cards proved that they belonged, for sure.  My biggest complaint was actually not as much with the #1 and #2 in the North Region as it was with the ranking of the North Region #4 with both of us in it!!!! ??? ::) With the competitiveness of that game, it sure makes the committee's choice to send either of us on the road next weekend look even more silly, IMHO.

Agreed.  You have a good team up there in Whitewater.  Good luck against Wesley on Saturday.
