Quote from: Mr. Ypsi on November 30, 2019, 11:27:43 PMThe way quarterbacks are dropping in the NFL I thought Joe would have gotten a spot a bit sooner. I wonder how this effects his contract with the XFL. I know that Joe's agent had been contacted by a few NFL teams before this but his dad didn't go into details...Quote from: thewaterboy on November 30, 2019, 10:59:21 PM
Well not all bad news for Wesley fans today... Joe Callahan just signed on to the practice squad with the Detroit Lions.
As a long-time 'fan' of the Lions, my sympathies to Joe Callahan.

I'm assuming the reason for the PA recruit has to do with the fact that the CNU HC was preciously the DC at nearby Lafayette Coilege. He probably knows quite a few HS coaches in the area.
But like most of the D3 schools in Pa kids don't go local. If.they don't give up football and go to Penn State or one of the many state schools. they go away. It's probably close to a 8 hr trip to. CNU from Allentown..Or maybe Va beach being so close.....Most of the kids that go on to college to play football from any Pa school are pretty good

Haha and that little town of Greenville (they have green fire engines and police cars) whatever it's called has a speed trap every time I go thru there . So you'd have to be aware.
First game live this year and I was impressed by Frye. He throws a good ball and it gets there quick. His long passes are on the money and the receiver catches them in stride. Frye avoids the rush when needed but looks to make plays with his arm first. The defense looked good, but Framingham dropped a number of passes and the QB was pressured into making some ill advised throws. This Frye offense is far better than the offense I saw during the year and I expect them to give Del Val trouble, at least more than in the first game. I think Wesley wins this game and who knows, they are only an upset in Ohio away from hosting a third round game.
I think the Union/Salisbury game is interesting, but I think the Gulls will win as they are playing better than I have seen them play in a long time. The offense is not making mistakes and is always an issue for teams not used to defending it. Union has played Springfield so they have a clue. It should be a fun game. Sort of wish it was at 4 and I could pull a double bill and head there after the Wesley/Del Val game.

We're back... 36 years ago the Union Dutchman made their first appearance in the NCAA D3 tournament by winning a first round game and then spent the Saturday after Thanksgiving in Salisbury, Maryland battling with the Seagulls.(literally, I remember a flock of seagulls swarming the field) This year the Dutchmen will be back in Salisbury the same holiday weekend. Union has had an outstanding season and will be competitive on Saturday just as we were back in 1983. The Dutchmen won that game 23-21.
Union and Salisbury also met for a homehome in 2009 and 2010. The Gulls won both of those matchups. 19-16 and 52-21

Itll come down to who the coaches think will give Wesley the best chance to win. If there is one position that Wesley handles well, it is the Quarterback position. The coaches will make the right call on Saturday, whether its Mullin, Marrocco or Fry, to give all those guys who've done all the reps at practice and lifted all the weights in the offseason the best chance to advance as a team.Quote from: thewaterboy on November 18, 2019, 09:12:01 AMGot my plays crossed. My mistake. It was on the 49 yd TD pass. The main receiver on that play was Simpson but he was supposed to run a fly route and cut out but when he turned his head he saw where the ball was heading and stayed underneath it which was the reason for him and Peele almost colliding. Even Coach Azz joined the conversation and told Simpson joking around...I said go out...out..out. We all laughed about it but again these are the little things Fry will understand with more reps.Quote from: WesleyFB_8 on November 18, 2019, 06:18:55 AMI prefer Fry based on what I saw yesterday. Man can sling it. He made throws that neither Mullin or Marrocco can make. He also showed some good judgement in pulling down and running for a first down on one occasion. Also something we have not seen in 10 weeks. Which touchdown are you referring to? The 49 yard pass had Simpson and Peele right next to each other. Fry rolled out on the 20 yarder and seemed to hit Simpson right where he wanted him. I dont think that was a bad read at least from what it seemed.
Well I had a great time on the field with the Seniors and the other parents and at the post game game party. Thank you to all the Seniors.
Also congratulations to the team for making it back to the playoffs after a down year last year.
Now about the QBs, I just have a feeling Mullin will start Saturday, just my opinion. The players and coaches spoke very highly of Fry, he's definitely the future of Wesley but right now he's also still learning. Like that 20 yard TD pass to Simpson. I asked about that play because I said it looked like both receivers were going to collide with each other in the endzone Simpson said he just ran underneath the ball and came down with it. While it was a TD it was the wrong read, Simpson just made the adjustment in his route. This is the learning phase for Fry but then on the other hand he throws a 49 yd TD pass to Simpson and does everything right. In the playoffs we won't be facing TCNJ, CNU or Willie P so do we go with Freshman that's still learning or with Mullin and Morroco and hope they can move the ball ??
Both QBs played really well yesterday, but that was CNU. I worry that the offense gets to stagnant with Mullin. They just have long stretches where nothing happens and that gets frustrating. Can't have that happen if they want to win any games moving forward.
[/quot
If Mullin starts and Morrocco is to dingred to play then that moves Fry moves into the no. 2 spot.. In that scenario I could see Fry going in if things aren't going well. But there has been a time or two that freshmen have been given the reins if the coaches thought they were read
Fry played.very well. He certainly zipped a few and the turned around and put some air under a few others. He did throw one pass into the endzone that almost got picked by the safety he didn't see coming across from the opposite side of his intended target.

Nice set up in the brackets for both Salisbury and Wesley. Both should win first round match ups, well hoping Wesley keeps playing strong d to carry the o, but the second round games look good. Salisbury v Union and Wesley v Del Val would settle the ERFP arguments as to who is the top team. Union and Del Val have tough first round opponents so there are no guarantee who will play whom. Good luck to both NJAC team. I may make the trip to Dover to see Wesley live for the first time this year.
I've only seen two d3 games this year and Framingham State was one of the teams I've seen. I wouldn't look past these guys. Big and well coached with some decent skill guys. I'm guessing Wesley is the better team but I was impressed with Framingham this year.
I think that Wesleys size and speed wore down Framingham last time they played. Wesley has the ability to bring on fresh D linemen. The O line is all sophs except except for Hughes and they are big also. And they have a couple of big backs who can grind it out.
If Framingham can match or at least slow down the speed of Wesley they may stay close but in the end they are over matched

Good to see beenhit2hard and the Mrs. at Wesley the last few weeks.
I don't understand how one of the Wesley players gets cut blocked and ends up getting a personal foul called against. Counting that play and the unsportman like agter the td for celebration and that takes the penaulty total down 30 yrds. This may have been the least chippy game all year. I always question when a ack judge decides to throw flags on plays that another ref looking right at the play doesn't M.Jake a call.

Just a few observations about this Wesley team. i don't think we can overlook some of cardiac finishes that we have seen over the years. There are just a few more than usual. We know what Mullins is capable of. He just seems to be out of sorts a little lately. He doesn't have quite the number of game breakers that we have gotten used to. Joe Callahan had 2 above average wideouts, a go to tight end and a few backs that could catch the ball as well as run. Joe was in his own right a weapon.. Mullins is starting his 6th game of his career this week. He had started to get into a grove and then for whatever reason had to sit out the 1st quarter of the game after his best game. All that being said the offense was down to the 3rd running back. I don't think that Drummond is all the way back from his torn ACL from last year yet. I can tell you that it takes more people 2 yrs to come back fully from that injury.. and be 100%. If nothing else we have seen lately what
we hopefully have to look forward to with Pendleton. Size and speed! So if you are going to grind it out on the ground the points per game will be down.
After the next two games we find out if the playoffs are in the cards.. Then it's one game at a time and we'll see where the journey takes the team

Wesley's pool C hopes remain alive! What a win. I bet it would have been even more exciting to see in person. 3 games left to clinch one of those coveted pool C bids, which I think they should lock up if they win out.
Leroy Pendleton is becoming more and more impressive to watch as a freshman. We are used to seeing small, quick backs at Wesley so his big frame and running style is a nice change of pace. Would like to see him get more touches throughout the rest of the season.
Plays were there to be made.... Wesley just missed them. If the offense is struggling this much against Montclair. If this team makes the playoffs, I imagine they will struggle against anyone they draw. I'll say again.... I don't think Mullin is the guy to win you games against good teams at the QB position. From the when the video feed was available, his accuracy seemed inconsistent and he doesn't know when to pull down and run the football.
I also think he is looking for Ruhann Peele too much. This team has playmakers, but oftentimes it seems he gets keyed on Ruhann and that is it. Looking at the stats, Ruhann has 43% of the catches. Corterris Simpson has the next highest at 16%. Compare that to last year when Alex Kemp had 28% of the catches, Ruhann had 20%. I'll go further back:
- 2017: Okike (30%) and Kemp (29%)
- 2016: Shade (29%) and Kemp (24%)
- 2015: Shade (23%) and Okike (20%)
Point is: I don't think this offense is at that level. They need to spread the ball around more.
thewaterboy....
There have been a good number more two back sets this year for Wesley. I'd have to ask Coach Knapp but it may be to help the backs to get to the edge. Drummond got a couple inside handoffs early. I didn't see him much after that. But when the O line pinned their ears back ther were moving people out. That group of sophs on the O line are coming along.
i agree that Pendleton could be the feature back for the nrxt tree years but I have learned over the years that nothing isever written in stone until it happens on the field. IF this group can stay together on O it could be a special team in the next couple years. There are a few 6'1,6'2 wideouts waiting in the wings as well as two or more young QB'S. All this is speculation from my observations.

The tight end outran the ball on that TD. He came out of nowhere. Two plays almost beat Wesley today. One great catch by a well covered Montclair receiver and a short pick six almost cost the Wolverines the game. Wesley had nearly twice the yardage as Montclair. The defense played a very good game. But Montclair did have a couple wide open receivers drop passes. Mullins had a rough day. His timing was off and the safety could see where he was throwing because he watched his first read. But a win is a win and zMontclair has been a thorn is Wesley's side almost every year. Pendleton was a thousand yrd rusher his senior year for a team that passed the ball first and ran second last year.
