I just realized that SD and I have faced off, not on the gridiron, but on the field of litigation. It has been a while since I had a case with SD, but I've been on the defense side for more too many years than I care to remember. Best of luck to the Tigers and Bulldogs in a competitive good game this weekend and hoping the Tigers get the W.

Tooth: Are you sure it wasn't '79? That was the year (I believe) that JD got beat for the 99 yd TD pass that made its way into the CLU record books. We took a little butt whooping that day.

If your claiming superiority becuase you have a kicker in the NFL, more power to you. Enjoy...and yes, Hall of Fame Coach Goerge Allen would be considered an NFL veteran. He was no punter, but he was good![]()
FTP, just so you don't embarass yourself, please read the following:
Over the years, the Tigers have boasted such standout players as All-America quarterback Jack Kemp '57, who played in the NFL for San Diego and Buffalo before launching a successful political career; tight end Jim Mora '57, head coach of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts; quarterback and defensive back Bill Redell '64, inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006; Rick Fry '78, who led the nation in receptions per game in 1976 and 1977; quarterback Tom Hamilton '78, the 1977 Division III leader in total offense and passing yards; Daniel Osborn '82, who led the nation in punting his senior year; and running back Vance Mueller '86, "Chevrolet Player of the Game" in Oxy's nationally televised 1982 victory over the University of San Diego, who went on to play six seasons with the NFL's Los Angeles Raiders.
As for the current status of Ohnesorge and the discussions thereon . . . as well as the discussion related to Whitworth's Michael Allan . . . over time you will come to realize that most DIII fans will pull for any/all DIII players having a shot in the NFL. It is a rare circumtance and is a boost to DIII when one of its players goes on to pro status. Last year many of us were watching and pulling for Linfield's Brett Eliott to make the Chargers, notwithstanding the fact that we were competitors with him over his last two years in the NCAA playoffs.
So Ohnesorge is a punter . . . he's still getting more of a shot than most DIII players ever will, and it's a worthwhile topic while we wait for the season to begin.
As for DawgHeaven's post, I'm guessing that he drives a sports car to compensate for other "little" failings from which he suffers.
My impression is that even with the competitive/adversarial dialogue between Oxy and Redlands fans on this board, most are grounded in reality . . . DawgHeaven, you're invited to smell the coffee anytime you wish. For example, Oxy has won 4 of the 6 SCIAC football crowns in the 21st Century, three w/ Collins, one without. And do I really have to go back again to post the overall results of the history between Oxy and Redlands, in which Oxy, not Redlands, has the most wins?
tooth
Yes of course it's all about supporting the D3 players no matter what collegiate ties one has to a particular school. Heck, I remember applauding Howard Cosell's description during a Monday Nite game many moons ago referencing a NY Giants touchdown: " Look at Brian Deroo, rookie out of the University of Redlands". That may have happened even before I went to college.

Huge front page article on Andy Collins on the sports page of the Los Angeles Daily News today (complete with color photos). There is also a nice article about CLU's Danny Jones on page 5. I know most of you read the Times and might not see the articles, but I am a Daily News reader and thought you might be interested.

Im rooting for the Cards, imagine that....Jeff Soupan is a friend, a great guy and had another great season. He is a Crespi grad who gives back to the school. Last spring he took time to work with my son and he was just the best. He also has a great sandwhich grill that is re-opening across from my office building. A hard guy not to cheer for. Good luck Jeff.
Oxy over PP by 28.
Redlands over CMC by 7
Laverne over Whittier by 7
I'll be on the physically unable to perform roster this weekend as I had a little right shoulder arthroscopy yesterday. This wing is sore!! However, I will try to gut it out for the game at Patterson. Look for the old guy with the sling. I will try to dull the pain with adult beverages and for gastronomic satisfaction (and 2 million calories) a serving of Spaghetti al Bianco post-game.

Yes Mr. Tigre I am sure it was me. Thanks for sharing your personal experience of the past few years at Oxy.
Yes Mr. Tooth, I do know you. You were part of the O-line when I first came to Oxy in the fall of '77 (following a transfer from West Point). That line, as I recall, was anchored by D. Rentz. Other notables including Jumping Joe Casner and Big Buck Buchanan and Lou Hook. Good memories. I did try to reply to your note, but my status on this board did not allow me that opportunity.
Sorry Mr. Bob about not joining in on the Io Triomphe during the game. Hell, I don't even know what that is. However, it does not come close to the uplifting, ever enthusiastic "Boom Chick-a-Boom" voiced by Romeo Garcia back in the late '70s. Maybe Pomona.

Went to the Oxy-LV game. 1st game in over 20 years. Saw my old teammate Billy Bob Dobson as line coach and Jim Kerman as the special teams coach. Almost as gray as I am. Anyway, I walked in just as Laverne opened the scoring. After that, I did not see much of the Laverne offense. They certainly were "offensive" committing multiple turnovers with 3 or 4 in the 3rd quarter alone and several dropped interceptions. Collins seemed to be as advertised and the backup throws a nice ball. I thought the LV QB was a tall, good athlete and should have run more. Maybe it was the deficit but he certainly missed his receivers. I think Oxy caught more of his passes than his own teammates. It was a lot of fun. I may have to go to the Pomonal game as I have a standing bet with a Hen friend. Maybe a pre-game stop at Casa Bianca.

I think I have been properly motivated to take in the Oxy-Laverne game today. No kids soccer, no televised college games I care to see, yard work has been completed, no files I brought home from work and I owe a friend a visit who lives in the San Dimas area. I haven't seen an Oxy game since the playoff win over St Johns in '85 or '86 and I was last on the Laverne field in 1980 as a member of the very bad Bruce Allen team. Things certainly have changed for the better.

You guys are all killing me. I am an Oxy grad, class of '80. I was on perhaps the worst Oxy team of all time. I had the time of my life. We never smelled the playoffs. I hosted the parking lot kegger when Oxy beat the Johnnies in '85 (I believe that was the year). Now, we make it two years in a row and everyone bitches? How many teams can say they made it to the playoffs, let alone play the #1 ranked team? Maybe Oxy loses, maybe they win, but to accomplish so much and get to play this game is something all the fellows on the team can cherish the rest of their lives. I look forward to the challenge, listening to the game on the internet and know that the team will play their tails off.
These guys will have a blast.

<<Except if the Nigerian Nightmare returns and runs all over the field>>
Hey Brown Eagle, was there a player with that nickname on Laverne? I thought the only Nigerian Nightmare was Okoye from APU?
