Overlooked amidst the usual Hope/Calvin hype this weekend were two extremely solid outings by Kalamazoo down in Memphis.  The Hornets go South and absolutely obliterate both Principia and the University of Dallas.

It looks like Kalamazoo should have quite the balanced attack this year.  The scoring load throughout their young season seems to have been shared by a good number of people.

Maybe some of those voters are reconsidering that projected last-place finish now...

K-zoo in last place is ridiculous.  Yeah, they lost a lot of scoring with Ryan Konwinski and Tony Wichmann, but their backcourt has to be one of the most experienced and talented in the league.   (Herman, Kyle, and Worst).  Weaver's been a key player since his freshman year and he's got the experience to step up big this year.  Add Clancy, Garfield, Brinkman, Krohn and you've got the makings of what should be at least a middle-of-the-pack team.  Plus I've heard the new crop of freshman elephants will be looking to contribute right away.

Last year K-zoo hung tough with Western 'till the end.  This year they'll be used to the spotlight.  If K-zoo wins on Saturday do they get a Sportscenter shout-out?

stinger,
I agree that the backcourt looks solid for the Hornets next year, and they'll definitely miss the scoring of Wicchmann up front.  But is the frontcourt really that weak?

Other than Kellogg, Garfield, Weaver, Brinkman and Bezemek saw time last year, with Weaver starting about half the games.  I also hear good things about this freshman power forward they have coming in.

You've got to figure that these juniors will step up.  After all, most have been on varsity for two years.  A lot of teams have been hard-hit by graduation, and it looks to me that the Hornets actually have a pretty experienced group for the relatively young MIAA.

Less than a month until practice starts!

I was hoping to get the board's consensus on the Kazoo Hornets this year.  As a lifelong Michigan resident who has recently moved abroad, I will definitely miss attending games in the Rolla Dome and look forward to frequenting this board as a regular poster.

Does anybody know how the Hornets fared in summer leagues?  I know that they have a good nucleus of young players and some excellent senior leadership.  After two seasons of struggling through seemingly endless close losses, I hope that this will finally be the year that Kazoo puts it all together.
