ZA would like to say that he is NOT short, fat, and ugly....ZA is mildly height challenged, stocky, and as handsome as Rocky Balboa after his first fight with Apollo Creed!!!

ZA has a funny story that kind of relates to straight on kickers. Many years ago, when my son was about 8 years old, ZA took him to watch a Union practice. One end of the field wasn't being used so we grabbed a ball and ZA showed his son how to hold the ball. ZA started kicking field goals from about the 10 and kept kicking them straight to about thirty yards out, never missing.
At the time, Unions kicker was in a slump and was having some tough times kicking in game situations.
After ZA kicked his fourth or fifth field goal (of course under no pressure to do so) a Union coach came jogging down the field to where ZA and son were. ZA notices and tells son, "look a coach is coming to say hi to you". The coach gets to us and says, "please stop kicking field goals". ZA asked why. The coach says, "my lineman are busting my kickers ass telling him, look, that old fat guy can kick field goals".
I thought I was getting a compliment until it sunk in that ZA was just called "old and fat".....

RT, ZA will try to start getting some stats and insights as to the two styles. ZA also feels that the straight on kicker kicked the ball higher at the beginning of the kick. Watching many NFL kickers, if one looks at the replays in slow motion, the ball is so closed to getting blocked on many soccer style kicks as the ball starts out real low and hard for distance.

Frankly RT, ZA has been saying for some time that ZA would find a "straight on kicker" for 30 yards or less kicks and a soccer style kicker for the long ones. When you look back at the NFL back "in the day", many field goal kickers were big freakin lineman, kicking the ball straight on. Soccer style came into play mainly for distance. Who cares if the straight on kicker only can kick a 30 yard field goal if he's super accurate. Let the soccer style guy take the lower percentage long shots the big guy can't kick. ZA wonders if that would work out...Then again, ZA is nuts!

ZA hasn't posted very much this year, but he did follow the LL very closely. ZA wouldn't call it a bad year for the LL, but it was apparent to ZA that it was a bit of an "off" year for the LL. ZA flew cross country to see the Union/RPI game and was not overly impressed with either team, but the game was a good one. Being loyal to the LL. ZA was hoping RPI would win in the first round, regardless of the Union/RPI rivalry.
ZA's not sure about Union's future next year, but hopes for the best. Mulhenburg will be good again next year and for some reason, Union, no matter what personel they have on defense, cannot seem to play well against an option offense, so even an "off" Springfield Team will put a lot of points on the board as they did this year.
ZA realizes those games are non-liberty league games, but it's still a tough way to start off the season IF you lose those first two games.
Congrats to RPI....As far as coaching decisions go, ZA has always stated that overall, RPI makes the best adjustments at halftime and has proven that many times over the last several years, coming back from deficits and winning games that they were losing in the first half. To do that consistently, means the coaching staff makes very good decisions and adjustments.
Hope to see more games next year....It's been great having the video feed at some of the games. Tough watching on a laptop, but it's the next best thing!!!

Frank, thanks for all the time you put in to explain the pools. I get lost trying to figure it out sometimes. Haven't been on here much this year, but have watched the video feed and listened to your broadcasts for most games thus far and you guys are doing a great job. It's nice to see Union finally start to show that defense matters as the last three years they've been so offensive and really lacked a consistently strong defense.
I've also been listening to RPI games. Couldn't believe the last minute win against Hobart at Hobart. What a crazy game that was to listen to.
I know there's still a lot of attention to RPI, Union and Hobart, but I still think WPI can be impressive when their offense is on and Rochester is a very tough bunch. Should be an intersting next three or four weeks. The schedules get tougher now. Non league games like Hobart vs. Alfred have an impact because tough battles like that's going to be can either make Hobart a better team, or they could go into the end of the season banged up from a very physical game. So, these non-liberty league games can affect the liberty league in a different way. Don't you remember when Union never had a week off and they would go into the tough part of their schedule right after playing University of Albany and College of New Jersey? Union was banged up big time by then. Let's hope the LL all stays healthy for a great end of the regular season.

As an "old guy" now, ZA thinks it's getting harder and harder to explain to the little ones that all the F-bombs and everyting else chanted is just inappropriate behavior done by a small percentage of people when it's becoming so common that even your little ones question whether it's just a "few" people when its so obvious its becoming the norm now.
Kids actually believe they have to act like dirt bags and gang bangers to be tough on the field. ZA just kept showing his kids films of walter payton, Dick Butkus, Ray Nitsche, Deacon Jones, etc....Not that these guys were gentlemen. Deacon was especially known for his foul language on the field. But ZA's point is that you can't get more intense than these guys were when they played the game and all the new age hype and in your face trash talk hasn't made the blocking and tackling any better.
ZA feels its getting harder to explain to kids they don't have to act like the so called adults to be tough, intense, and competitive. But it's getting tougher.

Merry Christmas (late) to all and Happy New Year....
Be careful out there....ZA got stopped about 6am today picking up a friend that was "under the weather".
Cop asked ZA if he had anything to drink....ZA replied in the affirmative, but told the officer his last drink was 16 hours ago. Copper gave ZA the pre-test "alco-sensor" and ZA showed some good stuff still in the system, but no where near the legal limit. Cop asked ZA what the hell ZA was drinking 16 hours ago that was still in ZA's system....ZA replied "Liberty League Quality Car-bombs". Copper looked puzzled and asked ZA if he was driving when ZA was drinking said car bombs....Eact quote from ZA to copper....
"Driving?....buddy, I wasn't even walking"...

Found this on the General post board:
The Westchester Steelers, located in Yonkers, N.Y., just outside of New York City, are seeking players for 2007 season. Graduating seniros from the N.Y. C. metro area, who want to continue playing after graducation this spring are encouraged to contact us. You must be dedicated to winning, motivated and self-disciplined.
We play a ten game regular season and four rounds of playoffs, beginning in early August. Spring practice begins in April. College seniors are excused until after graducation and you return home. We are seeking athletes at all positions, especially O-line and QB, but all experienced athletes are welcomed.
For info, contact us at (914) 969-4136 or e-mail us at steeler1@msn.com. You can gain more info about the team and league and you can register online at http://eteamz.com/mtvernonsteelers.
Hey RT these guys are looking for some quality O-linemen
RT doubts he could hang with 18 year olds now that he is 34 and not in "football" shape. RT's workouts these days consist of alot of swimming....RT has found doing laps in the pool is the complete body workout..it's amazing. Great cardio and works the muscles. 30 minutes straight of laps will kick your azz..Remember in Rock III where Apollo has Rocky in the pool? "You gonna use muscles you ain't never knew you had Rock".
...besides, if RT was going to hang in Yonkers, it's going to be at the horse track and not hoping that Vinny or Rocco don't take RT's knee out.
Apollo to Pauly..."Can he swim?"
Pauly replies... "With a name like Rock?"

ZA flys quite often from Nevada to New York State....One flight a much younger and very hot girl sat next to ZA in the last row and asked if she could rest her head on ZA's shoulder for the duration of the flight as she was exhausted and wanted to sleep. ZA held off on letting the gas go for 4.5 hours, somehow, someway...as he was too embarrassed to deliver the goods from eating and drinking like the tazmanian devil the night before. ZA believes it was those four and a half hours that may be responsible for ZA NOT being able to hold back the gas bombs anymore.....not even for a minute...Hey, it was an unnecessary talent anyway!!!

Denmark attempts to tackle speeding problem, by employing hot topless women with signs to get people to slow down. NSFW

Maybe the LLPP can franchise this idea in the 50 states. This right up the LLPP's alley.
Since governments and companies won't spend any money until you can throw some measured results and statistics at them, pilot programs have been popular. ZA believes LLPP should be able to do this idea as a pilot program first, and ZA will take speed statistics before and after....ZA recommends his street for the LLPP's first pilot program. Is that too selfish?
