Just from Mount - Borchert, Kmic, and Burke. What about on the defensive side of the ball? Hall?

To set the record straight - Pentello's kid was 24/25 in '06. Rocky was 44, full time employed at Cap in the Physical Plant, and working on a degree in Education when he discovered he had eligibility remaining from the Reagan administration. After 9 redshirt years, and an extension, he finally used his last remaining eligibility in 2019. Almost made it to a COVID year 😁

January 02, 2025, 04:25:02 PMQuote from: Fido0650 on January 02, 2025, 12:57:08 PMJust looking at the National Champion bracket, I see Ohio State plays Texas and Penn State gets the winner of Notre Dame and Georgia. And yet - 1 and 0 against OH this year. Buckeye people are funny. When they beat Michigan (finally) after years of disappointment (i.e. John Cooper) then "its the greatest victory ever". They win it a few times and suddenly "its not a rivalry since we own you". Now they cant buy a win for $20 million and "it doesnt even matter since we are in the playoffs". Ok keep telling yourself that. Except the footage of your loyal bucknuts booing your beloved scarlet and gray the entire 2nd half at the shoe as you fail to beat a rather sad UM team (we had a bad year) will live on in the ears of the internet forever and tells a different story. Cheers! And as always - Roll Raiders ~ Roll!
One thing I don't see is the corn and blue on the bracket.
Just remembered that TSUN didn't make it this year. That must mean they will be WATCHING the games from their La-Z-Boys in the comfort of their basements dreaming of what would have, could have, or should have happened this season.
Hopefully they didn't eat all of the cookie they got for beating the Buckeyes so they can split it into 3 parts and enjoy a piece while watching the 3 remaining games knowing that they are not one of the teams left.
No matter who wins, it won't be TSUN.
Their invitation to the big dance must have gotten lost in the mail.

As a Michigan fan nothing gives me greater joy than being a thorn in THE side. But I get it, OSU just wants to win. They want to be victorious. They want to be celebrated for being victorious and praised as champions. Thats right folks, THE Buckeyes want to be-

December 28, 2024, 01:39:43 PMQuote from: purple blood on December 28, 2024, 01:23:23 PMI have a bad feeling this will be a shoot out or one sided. Hoping I'm wrong but the way JH basically threw all over them in second half is concerning. However the D stood up when it had too but can the D last a whole 4 quarters.
I have the same concerns. The D has the talent and the horses - just like the O - its going to come down to fundamentals, scheme, and adjustments (the 3 the Steak guys didnt mention).
Mount has to tackle well in open field and avoid the ball chopping (running with the guy for 20 yards while trying to strip the ball). The scheme has to decide what we will not let NCC do (a tip of the hat to Gagliardi in 2004), and we have to make them adjust their game to our intensity.

After watching the Raider highlights from the semis - I do hope Mr Claus brought them "How to make open field tackles". Its a wonderful read. I saw countless missed tackles in the secondary, bad angles, and a complete lack of appreciation for physics. When their TE is 6-2 and 250 (whatever he was he was big) and you are a 5-9 200lb DB - unless your name is Steve Atwater - you dont take him on at the shoulder pads. I just saw a lack of fundamentals. The O looked better with Deshields than it has with Beaudrie but the D gave up a lot of points to a weak offense. We need to get back to the key philosophy at Mount - block, tackle, catch (or was it run, pass, stance? Footwork, form, pursuit? Ham, cheese, bread?) Whatever the Steak guys said - we have to get back to basics or this will be a bad look (having nightmares of the UWW run-away train game). Roll Raiders ~ Roll!

Oh and Fanboy-
" Their five year stretch is something that has never been seen before and definitely was not aided a great deal by a pandemic"
Mount wasn't aided by a pandemic - AT ALL. Mount WAS the pandemic. I think its time for Mount to inflict a bit of Purple Raideritis. Its a rare strand of bird flu that targets Cardinals.

well, they scored at will on what the D3 "analytics" told me was one of the greatest D3 defenses of the modern era. "rarified air" and "best in a decade" I believe were thrown around.
Play with poise, limit negative plays and turnovers and don't piss down your leg at the start of the game a la Susquehanna and '22 Stagg Bowl will be key. Can't get into a big hole against NCC. Make it a physical game, drag them out into deeper waters and see if they can swim. This Mount squad has a knack for not flinching in big moments.
There is literally next to zero pressure on the Raiders in Houston. NCC is the greatest superpower ever seen in D3 led by the quarterback who invented college football. Their five year stretch is something that has never been seen before and definitely was not aided a great deal by a pandemic. Five straight Stagg Bowls?!?!? I mean come on, that's unheard of. They will probably keep that up for 10, maybe 11 straight years. "Red is the new Purple"
Well it might be unheard of to you - but Mount and UWW both did it from 2005-2011 - together, at the same time - like against each other. So "unheard of" may be a stretch. In fact not only did Mount and UWW play in 7 straight Stagg Bowls, Mount Union played in 11 straight Staggs (2005-2015), stayed home a year and then played in 2 more. So that makes 13 in 14 years.
NCC is a great team - but they have a ways to go before hitting those marks. Oh and Mount also had coaches that STAYED. We will see how NCC does when bigger schools start calling.

December 21, 2024, 10:38:27 PMQuote from: Raider 68 on December 21, 2024, 09:57:42 PMJust a small tidbit, in 2003 Mount Union had a great year, blowing out everyone, had a few D1 players and won on of their playoff games by 60 points (maybe the semi-final). They faced a very good St. John's team and lost in the Stagg bowl. Hope NC reads their press clippings and resembles the 2003 Mount team in the Stagg. Could it happen, yes since no team has yet to challenge them this year. Maybe Mount has the opportunity?
I still say that was the most talented - top to bottom- team Mount has put on the field. Mount played that last game lime the Trophy was already engraved. Gagliardi said after that St Johns decided Mount could either pass OR run - but they werent letting them do both. Made them one dimensional. I also remember that was the only time I ever contacted LK before a game. I emailed from the Middle East that my unit followed the games and posted scores on our boards. He took time out to reply - and that is why Mount lost. I wont contact him again. 😞

December 20, 2024, 02:17:57 PMQuote from: D3fanboy on December 20, 2024, 11:31:30 AMI just can't see JHU having a better defense than Otterbein (I kid, I kid) and holding the Raiders under 20 points. It's wishful thinking for the panelists, but as long as Mount doesn't have a turnover-fest, I really think that they should be just fine. JHU does not have a national semi-final level offense. The big TE had a good day against UMHB's cover 2 and JHU really exploited a couple breakdowns by the Cru. Mount has the athletic advantage in the secondary, and I really think that Rossy, Kaleb and Factor can be super-disruptive up front. So in a nutshell: Mount has Moore than JHU. Mount is of a higher Kaleb-er, and the D will Factor into a win? 😁 Roll Raiders ~ Roll!
Bonus point: Beaudrie scores a TD tomorrow

D3football.com was more than fair in covering the Fulford issue. I think the issue wasnt being fair so much as it was covered at all. I can see both sides - LK would have preferred the Barney Fife "nutin to see here" and i get that. Oh well - so on the brunch....I guess I was wrong. Had a 50/50 shot.

Keep in mind that they still have some students (athletes, internationals, out-of-state, etc) on campus over breaks - so they will have to feed them AND the brunch, and any regular meal, is open to the public for a fee ($10). I wouldn't worry about not having it.
I will sit this one out since I will be in Köln Germany at that time. Enjoy your omelets and the game while I enjoy my mettbrochen and Kölsch. Prost!

I am hopeful better highlights will be available later. The ones up now appear to have had a blind man on the camera. Regardless, great win. Hardly a beatdown but a solid win. Roll Raiders ~ Roll!
