well the pick ems come down to this week. between me and kohawk krazy. i have a one game lead and theres a one game difference between us (loras/luther) in our picks this week. i find it fitting that the week of the coe/cornell game, it comes down to a supporter of each team facin off in the pick ems especially given some uncertainty surrounding cornell's move to the mwc. may the best man/team win.

Cornell's intent on moving to the MWC.
I have many thoughts, most of which I'll keep to myself, and only share when plied with enough Sierra Nevada Pale Ale when I come out for my next visit to the great State of Iowa...
I kind of feel let down as if it were a resignation to the thought that we can't compete...heck, I went through 4 years feeling that we were on the verge; but 1-31 is the number regardless whether we lost by blowout or in OT.
I will say this, I take pride in the fact that 4 of our 5 seniors from last year gained All-IIAC recognition, 2 gained national recognition. (And the 5th kid is a great kid, who I am equally proud of). It affirms to me that we achieved some level of competitiveness. And I will always remember the joy I saw out on that field when these boys helped their team beat Loras, on Senior Day, to end their conference play frustration.
Taking Heys Rev. 3 on a recruiting tour of IIAC schools next spring?!?!
Cornell just completed a $105million capital campain. Cornell just announced they are planning to spend $3million on athletic facility upgrades...with most of it going towards improving their football facility. Cornell has the money to compete in the IIAC. Dubuque went 9-75 in IIAC play during the 1990's...take out their 5-5 record against Billie Penn and that would make them 4-70 during the 1990's. You can call Dubuque a middle of the road IIAC team now. Not a conference power, but a decent football team. There is no reason to believe Cornell can't do the same thing.
I won't buy into the fact Cornell alums in Wisconsin and Illinois want to see Cornell back in the MWC. I don't buy that Cornell wants to be in an athletic conference of like minded schools like the MWC. I think Cornell thinks they can win more in the MWC. That is no given and in the long run I think it hurts their student athletes to be travelling so much. But oh well, I guess.
i agree. the general sentiment between many people is this is a move being made because football can't win. i think it's too bad especially on account other cornell teams are really starting to step it up. cornell was a founding member of the mwc, so there is some history between the conference and the school. i always enjoyed competing in the iiac. theres a lot more talent to be had in the iiac and to me it means a lot more when you win. its almost like theyre taking the easy road out.

Since we've only got a week of the regular season left, I thought I'd throw two questions out there. What are your thoughts?
1. Wartburg is in the playoffs. Thoughts on Coe getting in at this point? Who will each of them play in the first round?
2. Who is your MVP and Coach of the Year?
1. I'd like to see Coe make it just so the IIAC has two representatives, not because I particularly like Coe. But I'm not too good at this whole math thing, so who knows what the odds of that happening are.
2. I think Boyle will win the MVP. He has demonstrated himself to be instrumental in Coe's success and has the numbers to boot. I suppose can argument maybe can be made for McGivney, but it's not going to happen. I don't see how Willis doesn't win COY. I suppose if Warty loses this week, it could shake things up a bit. Outside of that, don't see anyone else winning it.

If I'm not mistaken, he also is known as SpeedKills8 here ... a Cornell backer.
Maybe he'll go to another conference/group...

He did move from sideline to sideline like Chicago Bear #54. Otherwise it was a boring game except for a near Cornell College victory.
I don't know if this has been talked about before or not but I'd like to know if anyone can actually confirm that they see Luther's McGivney tackle anyone and everyone that seems to touch the ball. He was credited with 12 solo tackles and 13 assists today.
I've been having trouble wrapping my head around this one as well. Granted, I haven't seen him play...or anyone else in the IIAC for that matter. But he has 2x as many assisted as solo tackles, and is on pace for 216 total tackles this season. He's also averaging about 4.5 more tackles/game than anyone else in the nation. He is accounting for somewhere in the area of 40% of his team's tackles. That seems absurd to me. I can't decide if there has just been very helpful stat keeping, or if the defense is set up to allow this to happen, or if he is such an athletic presence why teams aren't making an attempt to avoid him. Any one have any insight?

Typing on my phone I just lost a huge response. I will boil it down to this: You have no idea what I'm thinking if that's your response. I've worked in D3 schools and seen coaches canned. One W aint bringing those guys back. That's not what D3 is supposed to be about.
Here's what I am thinking. In the half dozen or so message boards I visit. I've never seen an administrator come down so hard on the posters that make up his site. It seems odd to me.
i'm willing to bet its because he knows what he is talking about. he's dealt with and probably knows more about the inner workings of d3 football than most of the people on this board. i would get annoyed too if everyone seems to think they know better than i do, when they clearly don't.

To any Dubuque fan, and especially Dolittle and DBQ, that I may have offended: I apologize. It was not directed at you, just someone who likes to get personal but doesn;t like it when it comes back. From now on I'll play nice.
Hey ... everyone gets a little premature once in a while!

not sure how many ppl have come across this and while it's not IIAC news, I find it relevant to d3, and consequently the IIAC, considering uw-w and mt. union have met in the last 5 stagg bowls.

be interesting to see the role/impact of the former badger in light of coppage, a junior, is a 2x all-american for uw-w and the last time stanley played was about 5 yrs ago.

Just some idle questions:
Do we give Central the trophy now, or go through the motions of the season?
Was Coe a one hit wonder?
How does Wartburg bounce back after a sup-par season while having to replace Nick Yordi?
Will the thousands of Spartan recruits make for a change in conference standings?
Are BV Luther and Loras so far under the radar that they crash?
Will a new coach produce different results for the Rams?
Will anyone ever say anything nice about Simpson?
this is the IIAC so it's never over till its over. that being said i'd be surprised if they don't win it.
coesuxdrinkbeer.
no lower than third and may make a run for the title.
doubt it. expect UD to be middle of the pack. the usual teams at top and bottom.
if you fly far enough under the radar, you can avoid it all together, and the enemy doesn't know you're there until it's too late.
history says no, but never say never.
i ate there once. they have nice pie.

Observation on the UWW-MtUnion game. Those two teams played at a level that is a notch or two above any game I have ever seen in the IIAC in the last 50 years. Receivers play, RB jukes, QB throws and DB/DL/OL play had exceptional consistancy. Not just an occasional good play.
This is not a knock on the IIAC but only to say that those two team played an exceptional game.
Congrats to the Whitewater and to Mt. Union for such entertainment.
the teams have an absurd amount of talent. pierre garcon is now with the colts doing his thing, and justin beaver had a couple pro workouts (to name a couple recent players). they are just able to attract quality players by way of legacy, luck, and a little of both. uw-w's current rb (coppage) was getting d1 looks and suffered an ankle injury sr yr of hs. next thing you know he's at uw-w going for over 2,000yds as a soph and being named mvp of the stagg bowl

I'm in no way saying he is not deserving of all conference, I've watched him play for 2 years and he's a fine athlete, but ALL Conference TWICE in the same year, is there precedent for that?
Neil Suckow (Coe) - 1st Team Offense (ret.), and 2nd Team Offense (rb) as a freshman
Walner Belleus (UD) - 1st Team Offense (ret.), 1st Team Offense (wr), and 2nd Team Defense (db) as a senior
These are the recent ones that come to mind. There might be others, but I honestly didn't feel like digging through all the archives. Both guys had a ton of buzz surrounding them which undoubtedly helped. To this day, I'm not sure Belleus deserved 3x All-Conference in one season, but it is what it is.

I vote for more bathrooms at Ash Park...
I couldn't agree more haha. In my opinion, the football stadium needs a face-lift more so than the Small Center. It's ancient and has no locker rooms, restrooms, etc. Hopefully, the project can be funded sooner rather than later.
