Capital led BW 19-7 with 2:40 left after BW turned the ball over on downs again. BW's offense was pathetic once again and the defense has played very well, at least since early in the 2nd quarter. I'm not too sure how any of the points were scored, as I saw no scoring from the time I got there with about 12:00 left in the 2nd. The BW defense forced at least 4 fumbles, including more than one in Capital territory but the offense never capitalized. Disappointing end to the season for the Jackets.

I think they can win a lower scoring game and anything like a 13-10 game would obviously favor the Jackets, but I wanted to give some credit to Capital's offense. However, after watching BW play Mount, I think their defense can shut down any team. It would be nice to get 17-24 points from the offense though and give the defense a little help.

BW's offense has been inconsistent this year. They've had a few games where they've moved the ball and put up some pretty big numbers and some other games where the offense looked nonexistent. The defense has been solid all season. I think as long as the offense gets near their season scoring average (around 23 points), the Jackets win this game.

Final from Westerville, BW 42, Otterbein 31. BW and Capital will be playing a playoff game a week early next Saturday at Finnie Stadium in Berea.

Baldwin-Wallace leads Otterbein 35-31 and just intercepted the ball in Otterbein territory with about 5 minutes left. Mental has 5 TD passes in his return.

I don't understand the overwhelming hatred of BW on this forum. I read the OAC forum from time to time and have to register just to defend the Jackets a little. I don't think BW will finish over .500 this year, but the streak they have is pretty impressive nonetheless. You call it a streak of mediocrity but they've had playoff appearances and a Stagg Bowl win during the streak, so call it what you want, but the program being that successful over nearly 4 straight decades is quite an accomplishment and says a lot about the quality of talent that BW has had. The OAC is one of the toughest conferences in Division III football, so to finish over .500 year in and year out without a bad season here and there is something to be proud of. Obviously everyone at BW would much rather have a few more teams that have gone deep into the playoffs on a consistent basis like Mount Union has over the past decade, but that kind of dominance is a rarity at any level of sports.
I think most people would also agree that the turf at BW is terrible. It is probably responsible for more injuries than BW can afford, especially this year. Despite the injuries that have depleted their entire defensive line, they still have one of the top defenses in the conference. Unfortunately, they have one of the worst offenses in the conference and the defense can only carry them so far. If they make it to 6-4, it will be because of the defense.
Also, BW probably has played Mount Union the toughest over the past 10 years during Mount's dominance. 9 out of 10 people might not say that, but with the exception of a couple years during the Arth era at John Carroll, BW has played Mount tough in quite a few contests.
