Those are some pretty sweet looking unis.

Smith03, do you have any season preview information on any of the UMAC teams and also on Trinity Bible (I know their not UMAC, but still)?

#2
Thank you, Sir.  I appreciate your response.

Can someone tell me about Trinity Bible?  Are they provisional NCAA III or are they only affiliated with the NCCAA?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Hasanova,

I played at North Greenville back they were the pits.  They aren't anything spectacular right now, but they have improved drastically since I left (I hope this is just a coincidence...lol).  They have recently built a very nice 5,000 seat stadium and have recently started playing more SAC schools.  Yes, geographically they are great fit and their school's background fits in pretty well also (small, private christian school).  I know the idea of adding North Greenville has been talked about and, from what I have heard, one of the MAJOR reasons for building the stadium was to get on track with the rest of the SAC schools (Tusculum, Presby and Carson Newman have all recently built new or upgraded stadiums).   But, it looks like Brevard is also trying to get noticed as well by playing a few SAC schools this year.  They would also be a good fit for the SAC.

i think that chowan would be eligible to join the sac first since they will be eligible to join a conference first.  im pretty sure brevard is DII but what is this DII naia appalachian league???

I would expect North Greenville to be the next SAC member.  They just built a brand new stadium and are getting better each year.

Quote from: hasanova on April 08, 2006, 09:52:01 AMmore pressure on the recruiting front.  lol

you aren't kidding!  the monarchs are really surrounded with campbell as a 1aa non-scholly program, and uncp and fsu as d2 programs - i don't really worry about losing recruits to 1a schools, even most 1aa's, because truly, the kids that can really play at those schools don't consider a d3, but the 1aa ns programs and d2's...that's another story - and to top it off, uncp and fsu are less than 1/2 of what mc costs BEFORE they throw scholarships at kids, and cu is a few thousand less (and more generous with their $$'s)...doesn't bode well for regional recruiting down the road, but i'm confident in the monarch coaching staff and their ability to win some of those battles!
narch - I wasn't aware UNC-P was going to start a team, so that make 31 NC schools with football!  When do the Braves start and what league will that be?

You probably already knew, but Brevard is also starting a program this season...NAIA/DII..I think they are DII provisional or something.

Hey guys, sorry to ask a football question in here, but  no one discusses LaGrange football anywhere on the football board.

Do any of the LaGrange people in here know how the football team is coming along?

The weightroom is awesome and the stadium looks nice too.  Any big "committments" coming in for the inaugural year?

Does anyone know when fall camp is slated to start?

Thanks, and sorry again bringing up the pigskin in the roundball forum!

Thanks Ralph.

I heard that LaGrange has a home and home contract with Sewanee starting in 2007, which will be good.  They should have at least have 4 definite games each year in Sewanee, Maryville, Huntingdon and Shorter (NAIA in-state rival).  The HC was an assistant at Rhodes so that may be a yearly rival as well.

Did I hear correctly that the SCAC was thinking of expanding?  If so, think they will gobble up Huntingdon and LaGrange?

Yeah, it would be great if Piedmont and Oglethorpe started football.  I talked with a member of Piedmont's athletic staff a couple of years ago and when I asked if he ever saw football coming to Piedmont he laughed...hard.  I don't know if things have changed or not, but maybe LaGrange and Huntingdon's success (at least we hope LaGrange has success) will open some eyes.

It sure would be nice to see a Georgia/Tennessee/Alabama/Mississippi/Kentucky conference with LaGrange, Huntingdon, Maryville, Sewanee, Rhodes, Milsaps, Centre and Mississippi College.  Out of conference games could be held against the USAC and the ASC.  Oh well, wishful thinking.

Since LaGrange is an indy (at least for now) guess I'll talk about it here.  Their schedule is not too easy...

@Maryville (the Scots are up and coming)
Rhodes -tough game
Shorter - 2nd year NAIA team that is VERY well coached
@Bridgewater - no need to mention how tough this game is
@Louisiana College - another toughie
Washington (Mo.) - don't know much about them
@Mississippi College - played some teams tough last year
Brevard - 1st year NAIA & D2 wannabe team
Centre College - Tough
@Huntingdon - (MUCH improved & Tough)

What do you guys think? 1-9? 0-10?

LaGrange has some very nice facilities and is in a very good area for recruiting.  They will probably compete for athletes with Huntingdon, which is just down the road and maybe Shorter, which offers scholarships.

I would like to see DIII football in the deep south make a name for itself so that maybe more schools will jump on the bandwagon.

Pat, any word on schools in the south are considering the move???

mc 29 - m'ville 21 - the monarchs play a little sloppy in the first half after a long bus ride and a big win last week - they come back in the second half after trailing 14 - 7 and win going away - this game is MOST IMPORTANT for the monarchs...i hope my prediction is wrong and they come out firing on all 12 cylinders both offensively and defensively and blow m'ville out...i just don't think it will happen - this team loves the drama

Narch,

There is an article about the Mville/MC game at www.thedailytimes.com in the sports section.  Looks like the Fighting Scots will play mostly freshmen.

I work in Georgia now, so I won't be at the game either.

Good luck

fightin hawk - that's great info. - i won't be able to get to the game, but if you go, i'd really appreciate your appraisal after the game - if the m'ville defense lacks speed, it could be a LONG game for them - that is one of the things the monarchs have in abundance...roncketti, hill, mcswain, sands, mularski, howard, doleman, robinson...those guys can all motor - the monarch defense could struggle again, though - the mc dl is small (starters go 238, 248, 224) and quick...they seem to struggle against teams with big, physical o-lines - is there a webcast of the game? i know there was a christian am station that carried the mc/m'ville hoops game last year...will they be webcasting the fb game?  thanks again for your info.!

Narch

If you go to the Mville football website, they have a link at the bottom of the page that will allow you to listen to the game.  The announcers are kinda cheesy (and VERY biased), so be warned..lol.

Quote from: narch on October 25, 2005, 08:42:34 AMhere is what i know about m'ville:

they rank 6th in scoring offense (21.6 ppg)
they rank 7th in yardage gained (334 ypg)
they are balanced (135 rypg, 5th - 199 pypg, 5th)
they are 6th in total defense (allow 408 ypg)
they are 8th in scoring defense (allow 36.9 ppg)

the starting rb averages 3.6 ypc, but they have a wr who has 7 td's (all in conference games) and averages 78 ypg in receptions - he's 6'1, 180...could be a difficult match up for the monarchs - he went for 182 yards and 3 td's vs. ferrum

the other thing i know is that it will be a LONG bus ride through the mountains to get to m'ville...you know that you can never underestimate the affects of that type of trip - hopefully the monarchs will leave early enough to get that out of their system before game time - mc needs to come out firing on all cylinders like they did vs. cnu

GO PRIDE (beat ferrum), GO MONARCHS!

I don't know much about Mville's offense this year, they switched OCs over the summer.  For the last couple years they have been primarily triple option oriented, but they may have spread the field more this season, using more of a spread option type offense.  The best athlete on offense, hands down, is #17, the wideout you mentioned.  He is a playmaker and a  leader as well (was a qb in HS).  They have 2 rbs that are strong and hard-nosed.  #34 is a D-1 transfer from MTSU and the other is a Marine reservist who served in Iraq.  O-line is big, but not very strong, however they have been well coached the last couple of years (former OC was a former SEC assistant) and have a 4 year starter at center.  Don't know much about the qb, other than he sounds as if he is a good athlete and leader.

Defensively, they are not very fast or athletic, but will play to the very end.  The HC is the DC and is as hard-nosed as they come.  He has toughened this team up and they will play HARD.  #98 is the "Kelvin Hutcheson" of Mville.  He is the tackle machine and is VERY tough.  Good Leader as well.  They have another weightroom stud at LB, but I haven't seen him play yet.  #40 is a good athlete.  DL has some good players that will get after you, but they lack strength and bulk.

Special Teams wise, they have an experienced punter and I think they have a new kicker this year.  The punter kicked last year.

What M'ville lacks in speed, strength and athleticism, they make up for in heart and aggressiveness (although they DO have a few great athletes).  They are well coached by a tough, no BS, very experienced HC that loves the school.  The assistants, except for a couple semi-vets, are all very young, but most of them played at the school and know the system.

Methodist should win, but it will probably be close in the first half and maybe into the third qtr.

I haven't seen them play this year, but this is based on what I know from last season and the program in general.

This is more of a "players to watch for" than a breakdown of the Off. and Def.

It will be homecoming and the crowd will be large.  If you get a chance to go, Narch, it will be a GREAT college atmosphere for D-3 football...colored leaves, yellowing bermuda grass, cool weather and great fans from a school with ALOT of tradition. Long drive from Fayetteville, but it would be worth it.

Forgive me if I don't give anymore responses, I am a HS coach and don't have much time to post on msg boards, but I saw your questions about Mville and thought I'd chime in real quick on what I know.  I think Mville will take their lumps the next couple of years but will be tough in years to come.  The HC is a great recruiter and will be there as long as he wants to.  They have pretty decent facilities as well.   Hope this helps a little.

Good luck to both teams on Sat.
