130 points...school record in 3's....and funny, that Medved guy seemed to have a decent night again! 22 pts on 6-7 three's in 20 minutes; not a bad night, you'd think someone would guard that guy. Quality win over a average team to be sure. Forcing 73 T.O. in two games shows me that the pressure package didn't leave town with EB. Loggers head south for a pair of non-NCAA games in Oregon before the Turkey Day break. Good luck fellas.

Well, just another 30+ win on opening night in Tacoma. Umm, anyone seen that Medved guy before, he's kind of got some range 8) Welcome back CM, here's to a good year for you. Foster looks great, Delong was willing to share the rock - the fellas look good. Lunt has to be feeling better about getting the first one out of the way. I don't care who you are, at what level, that first game where all eyes are on you as the HC is one you'll remember. Congrats to him and the Loggers on a nice little 124 opening night sleeper. Off to pre-funk THE GAME. GO BIG BLUE.
RIP Bo. You'll be missed.

1. UPS
2. WU
3. Whit.
Loggers don't lose more than 2 NWC games and take a 4th title in 4 year. Lunt should win COY honors but won't as the coaches think a blind school girl could roll the ball out and let the Loggers win 14 games, so some other general gets the hardware. Fine, JL can take his ring to the NCAA's with a first round bye and second round home win over a SCIAC school...again. Then off to Wisc. and all bets are off. You heard it hear first. RIP Bhawks.

SpooH SreggoL:
My two cents on the coaching position: It is a safe choice for the AD to give Lunt a shot at the job. It seems reasonable that EB would advocate for him to take over the program, and he does have connections with current players and recruits. If a new staff is brought in and the program takes a substantial slide backwards, that then falls at the AD's feet. The logic would be that she made a change when none was needed. If, on the otherhand, Lunt takes over and doesn't have much success, I'd guess there would be more understanding for giving him a shot before a new staff was hired; not to say that students, alums, and the UPS administration would enjoy a step-back, but if one is to come it is "better" from the AD's perspective I would argue that it happen under Lunt then someone else. Whoever comes in has a hell of a standard to meet. I don't think that the program has to fall-off much, although the teams of recent years surly reflected their coaches personality. A new identity will emerge I am sure, but there is still a lot of talent on that roster and coming in for the 06-07 season. Logger Nation will be fine going forward.
Congrats to EB on the new position and best wishes at the D1 level.

Couldn't agree with you more---Wessels would have completely neutralized PS point guard without any help, and there wouldn't have been the open threes that were the difference in the game
to quote our fearless Defense Sec. "you go to war with the army you have, not the army you want." Such is March basketball.
lol!
As I posted on the CCIW Pickems, if I had known ahead of time that Wessels would not be able to play, I would have at least SERIOUSLY considered picking UPS. Sounds like his absence may have been key to the game - NOT an excuse, just an observation.
no, I agree, guard play is a key for sure aganist the Loggers; just taking a shot for fun.....how about the foul feast here with the IWU/UPS game? How deep is IWU?

Puget Sound is a very good basketball team and they are very well-coached. They can beat Illinois Wesleyan, but they'll have to force more turnovers than the 17 vs IWU this year or the 14 vs Stevens Point the last 2 years. And the Loggers will have to shoot it better than that 39% in the first game.
Thanks Q for your insights....Your right about the shooting. I think the challenge will be McVey and Curtiss need to have similar games to Dec. 29 (McVey 26 and 12; Curtiss 24 and 4 w/7-17 from 3) and the younger players need to step-up. DeLong and Williams are playing at a much higher level now than earlier in the season, so I see those two as being key to any type of Logger success. Good point about forcing TO, but they also need to take care of the ball themselves; 24 is not gonna work again tonight. Should be a great game.

The Loggers are a talented team that plays the best defense you will ever see (they had people in that place buzzing about it last night), but the Titans are the favorite this evening.
TQ: Am interested to hear more on what you heard last night. Obviously location limits others in the country getting a chance to see Logger bball, but the same is true for our fans as we try to assess how the Loggers may compare to some of the other quality teams in the country. Having become accustom to seeing the defensive intensity over the last three-four years, NWC fans are a little over it so to speak as just run of the mill. Would really appreciate any comments on how you thought UPS looked last night compared to some of the other quality teams you have seen recently. There is some talk in Tacoma as to whether this team is in-fact the most talented of the past three seasons or just finally didn't play UWSP

Loggerville, I meant no disrespect to UPS last night, I was just expressing confidence in the Titans. It's going to be another great d3 basketball game tonight with two excellent teams. The Titans will have to play very well to earn the win.
None taken Maddog...none at all. This is a great board with knowledgeable fans of good quality basketball; just defending my Loggers! Am excited to see these two programs match-up again after the one in Calif.

T32 -
Are you going to be at the game? Can't make it out, but am hoping for a good one...obviously both teams deserve to be in this game; here's hoping for a classic. And as far as the crowd goes, having attended the elite 8 held in Tacoma two years ago and watching two teams (UWSP v. LU) play with no fan base at all, I think both programs will benefit from the advantage in fans that IWU will have; at the very least it UPS can approach the game as a "road" contest and get their "us v. the world" game face on! Better to have some noise than nothing at all!

Looking forward to beating UPS tomorrow night to get to the Final Four in Salem.Quote from: Mr. Ypsi on March 10, 2006, 11:21:05 PM
Tomorrow night - Puget Sound. On December 29th we already beat them by 17 on a 'west coast' neutral site; tomorrow should be almost an 'IWU-home-game' neutral site. NOT counting any unhatched chickens, but we SHOULD win that game!
like the confidence in your team, but it will be interesting to see who has improved the most since Dec. '05. Looking for a great game from both squads...may the best team come out on top and earn a trip to Salem! Go LOGGERS!!!!!

On the bright side for Augie fans, the team to eliminate the Loggers the past two seasons has won the national championship. Damn that UWSP!
Check out the track record of UPS the past two years and you'll see a great program

Should be a great game, wish I could make it out.
