Rho Tau! While I am not a UMU alum, it is nice to see some ATO (I cheated since I don't have the omega character either, MUC57) brethren on the boards.

Ralph, UMHB beat Rowan and St. John Fisher in back-to-back games in the 2013 playoffs (Second Round and Quarterfinals). So this should be the third meeting between a Texas team and a true East Region program.

Nice come from behind win for McMurry against LC. They score 14 points in the 4th to win 34-28.
McMurry's PK Tanner Wright has set an ASC record with his 32nd and 33rd consecutive PATs.
Wright also had 2 FG's a 25 yd as time expired in the first half and a 43 ydin the 1st Q. He is making the case for All-ASC.
UMHB's John Mowery is 65-65 on extra points this season, so Wright is well short of any record. Not sure why the ASC hasn't updated that mark.

If you're a HSU/ETBU, Linfield, or UMHB fan, and you don't want to see repeat matchups in the first couple of rounds...
We're on the same page.
I think most of us hate seeing that. Maybe we should take up a collection at all first round games this year, like they do in church.![]()

In five seasons, ASC foes played in the post-season.
2004 -- UMHB beat HSU in the second round. UMHB played 3 more games. HSU had the bye back in the days of the 28-team bracket.
2006 -- UMHB beat HSU in the first round. UMHB played 2 more games
2008 -- UMHB beat HSU in the first round. UMHB played 3 more games
2011 -- UMHB beat McMurry in the second round. UMHB played 1 more game. McMurry beat Trinity in the first round.
2015 -- UMHB beat HSU in the first round. UMHB played 2 more games
That has 2 effects on cumulative playoff records.
The losing team did not get a chance to notch another potential win against a non-ASC foe.
The ASC seems to have not gotten the chance to play a weaker seed in the bracket because of "geographic proximity".
The conference post-season record against non-ASC teams is 28-19 (.596)

You also left out the UMHB-Louisiana College rematch in the First Round in 2012. UMHB went to the Semifinals and lost at Mount Union in the final seconds that season.

And I misinterpreted Pat's response as well. I was not implying that UMHB should be getting votes for #1. I was taking exception to what I saw as a slight to past playoff successes. I apologize for misinterpreting and taking this off on a different tangent. I agree that the program's expectations are higher than most and what the ultimate goal for all of the coaches, players and staff is and it is NOT a second round exit.

You're probably right about poor playoff showings by UMHB affecting UMHB's ranking but I'm not sure how that would affect TLU.
UMHB lost in the Second Round last season (a bit of a disappointment, granted). But the Cru fell in the Semifinals in 2013 and 2012 and lost in the Quarterfinals in 2011 and 2010. Poor playoff performances? Based on what criteria? Compared to Whitewater and Mount Union maybe, but not compared to the rest of Division III. Three Second Round losses in the last 12 seasons. Every other year in that span has been Quarterfinals or beyond.

Most extreme example I've seen came in last year's First Round playoff game between Texas Lutheran and Mary Hardin-Baylor. TLU won time of possession 48:22 to 11:38, but UMHB scored on a punt return and three drives of under two minutes in a 27-20 win.

So how difficult is it to complete 58 consecutive winning seasons? Just look at the top 25 top DIII teams right now. So before you peek how many teams do you guess have 14 consecutive winning seasons besides Linfield?
Answer: two, Mt Union and Wheaton. It's amazing how many teams got eliminated by one 5 and 5 season, all the more reason for Linfield to play a 9 game schedule.
With all the seniors we are graduating this year let's hope with all our depth that next years team can fill their shoes. Go Wildcats.
Mary Hardin-Baylor has won eight or more games in each of the last 14 seasons. So you can add them to your list, too. Make it three others.

If the ASC loses its automatic bid with Mississippi College jumping to D-II, all of the SCAC programs would be in competition with UMHB for a Pool B bid in a couple of years if neither conference is able to expand. So, the SCAC programs would find themselves right back in the situation most of you seem to think they are trying to avoid only with much higher travel budgets, double round robin schedules with multiple games against the same opponent, or multiple non-DIII games on the schedule. I'm not sure which scenario makes more sense for those schools.

The 2004 game was 14-14 at the half. But it was 35-21 Mount Union at the end of the third. UMHB controlled the fourth quarter. I'm not sure halftime adjustments were as big a factor as you describe.

UMHB has had two Gagliardi finalists, Cody Fredenburg in 2003 and Quincy Daniels in 2010. I assure you that a UMHB player was nominated in 2012, too.

It is not the NFL, but former Mary Hardin-Baylor linebacker Jerrell Freeman was named Defensive Player of the Week in the Canadian Football League this week. He is playing for Saskatchewan and had three sacks in a victory over the BC Lions. There is an interview with him on the UMHB athletic department youtube channel.

Shaun Rochon played two years at Mary Hardin-Baylor (2001, 2002). He then transferred to Baylor University to play his final two seasons. He was an Honorable Mention All-Big 12 selection as a kick returner his senior season. I will let the board debate whether or not Baylor was Division I football at that time
