Yes, natural turf and rain. Also wondering about the crown of a soccer field. Is it more? Is it less? Could it effect the game?

Trey Madsen - All American WR and Aurora University's career leader in receptions, yards and TDs. Should help ease the pain of losing Hardy.

Where did you see a list of the incoming class for NCC?

My heart goes out to the Cardinals. I am a Wheaton dad, and I was rooting for your victory throughout the tournament. What an amazing championship game, and you did the CCIW proud. Cortland played a flawless game, and missing the final 2-pt conversion is a heart-breaker. That happened to us against Bethel last year and it is something you think about all year long - it will have you second-guessing about everything. From my perspective, every game you had to play in the tournament (Except for Belhaven) was like preparing for war, and you could almost feel the fatigue after the Wartburg game on all the players. Being without your CCIW defensive player of the year, and your exceptional corner was a killer for your defense. All I know is that having NCC in the league (both in the CCIW and having them as a Goliath to face in the national tournament) makes every team better, and each player put out thier best effort. Case in point was Zac Boyes, he had to pull out his best effort to win. My son, Gio Weeks, had to mentally prepare himself for two weeks just to face NCC. All this to say, you have nothing to hang your heads about, yes there is heartbreak, but you made D3 a better product on the National Stage.

Thank you for the kind words CuriousCCIWfan. You are correct in all of your post. Yes, it will sting for a long time and there is heartbreak. And yes, I'm sure there will be some second guessing. It did hurt not having those key players on defense. Yes, Cortland played, very, very well. I'm confident that the Cards will recover and use this experience in a positive way in the preparation for next season. AND, congrats to Gio for his appointment to the DIII Football All American 1st team. Well deserved!

My lines for the semis

North Central (-13) at Wartburg - total 70.5

Cortland State at Randolph Macon (-17.5) total 56

Two pretty big favorites imo for Saturday. Do we break the all time attendance record in Salem if we get a North Central v Randolph Macon Stagg?

Looks like about a 3 hour drive to Salem from RMC. Not sure how many fans NCC will ship out, 10 hour drive or jump on a plane.

We have traveled really well for the past 3. Hopefully we make it there. If we do, I'm pretty confident we will travel well again.

thank you cardinaldad for the props for Gio Weeks', I am his father, and I must say it is a disappointment not to make it, but Luke Lehnan is tremendously deserving of the honor and a sure bet to win! Facing him as a Wheaton fan for the last three seasons was not fun, defending him is a daunting task. He is a great quarterback and NCC is a tremendous program. Rooting for them to go all the way, and I love how they represent the CCIW with pride.

CuriousCCIWfan, I can only imagine your disappointment. In my 2 decades, or so, of following DIII and CCIW football, your son is right in the group of the best backs that I have seen. And from what I hear, he is a wonderful young man. I nervously enjoyed watching him play! Do you have any younger sons that might play for Wheaton? I also can imagine how you feel with the Wheaton football (playing) chapter being over. I remember that feeling very, very well. But, I make up for it some by continuing to follow the Cardinals. Thanks for the kind words and support for the Cards. The game on Saturday should be a good one!

Congrats to Luke Lehnan of NCC for making it to be a finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy! I am absolutely shocked and disappointed that Gio Weeks is not a finalist!

Obviously you are watching. In my decades of following Cardinal football, this has to be the worst television broadcast I have ever seen. Commercials during play, way homer broadcasters, and no replay. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the NCAA require replays to host a playoff game? I know that the NCAA has a lot requirements for the playoffs and even more to host. This color guy needs some help!!

No. Nothing is required to host a playoff game, not even a broadcast, actually.

Thanks for clarifying, Pat!

The LaCrosse broadcast was brutal also. Apparently, the color commentator is recovering from a stroke. His effort is much appreciated. But, the camera work was something to be desired. And, they missed plays of the game because of commercials. Commercials were also shown with the video of the game playing behind the commercial. Very frustrating. This was probably the worst production I've seen in my decades of watching D III football.

Well, we didn't know. I was thinking he either had a stroke, or was drunk. I applaud his effort and pray for his full recovery. HOWEVER, the broadcast was still terrible. I didn't think their play by play guy was that great either. I know they were broadcasting for the home team, but they were a little overboard with homering (if there is such a word) for my taste. My biggest beef's about the broadcast are: 1) the lack of replay. I thought replay was required by the NCAA to host a playoff game? Can someone refute or confirm that? 2) the commercials that cut into the broadcast of the game. We missed some plays because of this. 3) the commercials that were running with the video of the game playing behind the commercial. 4) the camera work was awful. The qbs were great with their fakes, but..........
