Although they did away with the annual "touch" football game on Saturday morning, Denver does a great Monon weekend (As I have heard, and never been).

Friday 6-11 PM - DePauw vs. Wabash Bowling @ Moe's Original BBQ in Englewood

Saturday 9-11 AM - Tailgate @ Brooklyn's with DePauw vs. Wabash Cornhole Tournament

Saturday 11 AM - Monon Bell Game!! Telecast party @ Brooklyn's

The school that wins 2 of the 3 events this weekend brings home the trophy.

This is interesting.  Bowling + Cornhole > Monon Bell.  Gives the Denver Dannies a chance!
Does the trophy look like the Liberty Bell?  ???

You can remove DePauw from the undefeated list, with their loss last night to Wittenberg.

BJ and his coaches need to rent an apartment in Pittsburgh and recruit the h--l out of the WPIAL.  Allegheny had too few quality, and too few total, western PA players on their roster this year.   Despite the competition from other colleges, there's still talent to be had if he can  convince recruits to overlook the last three years of futility.  New coach; new approach; new era:   he can sell that, I believe, because he is an excellent recruiter.  Of course, his assistants need to do a lot of the leg work, too.  It will be interesting to see how he organizes his staff.  I am sure that was a topic of discussion on his way to the new job.

I've got a couple of spare rooms they can borrow . . .

I went to the Wabash - Allegheny game this past season and can honestly say it was the only time I did not look forward to seeing a Wabash game.  There was no doubt in my mind that Wabash could name the score they wanted to put up and there was nothing the Gators could do to stop it.  Shocking, really, what has happened in Meadville.  I give the Gator players credit --- they played hard --- but were not close to Wabash in talent or depth.

I do love the south VA weather in the fall and the hospitality though.  Wish we could finagle another home and home with HSC so we could all again boondoggle down there.  I wish HSC well and good football fortunes.  Having to field a team such as Wabash has or HSC has ... and all the while emphasizing quality in education ... poses extraordinary challenges for the College, for the Coaches, and for the players ... especially where others play utilizing lower hurdles.   (A couple of names in our conference and indeed in the D3 tournament come to mind.)  Oh, well.

I can recall the chants of the Northwestern U undergrads of several years ago when a lesser academic institution in their conference would play and out play them:  "That's All Right !  That's OK !  Your Gonna Work For Us Someday !"

WAF

H-SC is hard pressed to use that argument and chant in a conference where it legitimately belongs to W&L...   :P

I also somewhat wonder how Kenyon and Oberlin feel lining up across from Wabash...

Touche'.   :)

The "academic card" is a two-way street and really quite beside the point.  You can't control what other programs do, and there is no point in resenting their perceived "advantages".

Wait, we have a D3 team in Montana now? Pat, can you send me there to cover a hoops game? :)

You can cover both home games when Montana Baptist Wesleyan plays Palm Beach International Beach Bible College.
I still think that the perfect road trip for D3football.com to take is the American Southwest Conference game when Belhaven College in Jackson MS goes to Sul Ross State in Alpine TX.

Yeah. I think that's the longest conference road trip that I found. Absolutely horrible. 900 miles. On a bus. That's got to be 14-16 hours each way counting food stops. That alone would have me hoping someone else was recruiting me...

I'm guessing there were a lot of airline flights when the SCAC had Colorado College, Trinity TX, and DePauw --- or some really long bus rides.

I just noticed that it is no longer possible to purchase tickets in advance, but there are still tickets left.

Will there be "Standing Room Only" tickets if all of the seats are sold?

I don't think Mount is going on the road in the semifinal until they lose one.

Did they have to go on the road after UMHB beat them at home in 2004?

Here you go: http://d3football.com/teams/Mount_Union/2005/index

It looks like all of their 2005 playoff games were at home.
Actually, the 2005 North Region was the Wabash bracket.

http://d3football.com/columns/around-the-nation/2005/picking-playoff-surprises-disappointments

Wabash lost the Pool C Capital 14-11 in the 3rd round.
Apparently, MUC was the #2 seed in the Region, and hosted Capital and beat the Crusaders, 34-31 the next week in Alliance.

Schwami beat me to it.

Hey, don't go bringing facts into this again.  It's much more fun to pretend that the committee has been scheming for a decade now to make sure Mount Union never goes on the road in the playoffs.
LOL!  +1!

(Don't you just love the archives feature on this web site!)   ;)

Yeah, 2005 coulda/shoulda/woulda been the year --- that was the last time Mount lost a game in the regular season (on top of the semifinal loss to UMHB the year before).  Nothing has happened since then that would plausibly keep Mount from hosting all the way to Salem.

Alas, Wabash was the #1 seed in the North Region that year and would have hosted Mount Union in the quarterfinals, but lost to Capital in the second round 14-11.  So, Mount got to host Capital and won 34-31 in the quarterfinals.

Mount then got to host Rowan in the semifinals, since Rowan knocked out the East #1 Delaware Valley, and Mount was a higher seed than Rowan.

Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2004 made the Stagg Bowl as a Pool C (lost to Linfield).

If Carleton, St. Olaf and Hamline played in the NCAC they'd be horrible there too. I base conference success on playoff success.

They would indeed still be at the same level as a program, but drop any one of them in and they'd probably finish with four wins (St. Olaf, Carleton) to six wins (Hamline). Still not competitive against the top teams but generally good enough to beat Allegheny, Kenyon, Wooster, Oberlin and sometimes Hiram.

FWIW, here's the quote  ::)

So, any rooting interest in Catland for Wabash  ;)

I'm really hoping for a monkey-stomp now, maybe with multiple behind the back 2-pt conversions.

Why the hostility?  Caruso doesn't seem to agree --- since we are in the playoffs, he isn't concerned about style points.
