As a Hope fan, I want Calvin ASAP. Especially since it will likely be at the DeVos this time.

How is Calvin in the tournament already? They are 14-1 in the region, but you can't ignore their 5 losses. How did this team go 13-1 in the conference? They aren't that good!

If Calvin and Hope win tonight, how can Calvin lose on Saturday? All the Karma will be in their favor! A recent trip to the Final 4 (experience!). A freshman sticking a dagger in the heart of their Arch-Rival just a few weeks ago. A league championship. Home Court. Coach of the decade at the Helm. And (according to this board), they are still the underdog! How could any call go against them?
Talent has something to do with it.

There is definitely a problem with the officiating when since last nights games there have been 5 pages of posts and about an eighth of them were about anything else.
The officials obviously had an effect on the game, if not we wouldn't be talking about them. That's sad, because Olivet outplayed Calvin last night.
Nobody has mentioned, to my knowledge, where the problem started. Before Dozie's T, Calvin had probably 5 of 6 possessions where they took the ball to the basket and all 5 of those times Olivet was called for a foul trying to block the shot.
Now, I'm not a kinesiology major, so I'm not up on my muscle movement and all that, but when guys like Andy Drayer, Kyle Trewella and Kyle Snoeyink are attacking the basket against guys like Dozie and Pruitt, their shot might actually get blocked once in a while. As mentioned before, Todd did not think this to be the case. I'd say 3 of those were actual fouls and two were clean blocks that Todd anticipated.
Geerlings was awful and as the senior member of the crew, he set a terrible tone. The bald guy was new, not racists, just horribley outmatched for the situation. Kooiker stayed above everything, did a nice job and seemed embarrassed to be working with Geerlings. He did a great job of keeping the Olivet coach from going Sprewell on Geerlings after the 2nd T.
On a positive note, Caleb Veldhouse is unbelievable. He doesn't appear to be that athletic, but hits every big shot (I think his 3 and a Smith jumper were the only non free-throws after the T parade) and is clutch when it counts. Calvin fans should be very excited that they have 3 more years of this kid.

Cornerstone beat Albion for Matt Kingshott from Zeeland West.
They gave him a scholarship? Wow.

They clinched a share.
The rest of the league is lucky KVS doesn't have talent on that team. That would be scary.

Great win for Calvin! Hope clearly has more talent, but Calvin gets every ounce out of what they have. Congrats to KVS and the Knights.

What would the spread have to be before you took Calvin? I'd say at least 8, probably 10.
How low would Calvin fans go and still take Calvin? I there are no lines and I'm not trying to set or create one, but it's often said that to find out how much someone believes, make them put their money on the table.

Why would Wooster be ahead of Hope in the regional rankings? I'm not saying that Hope or Wooster should be 1 or 2 either way, but more looking for an agrument one way or the other.

It's amazing how other people see things. Cramer and Immink are getting praise for their good or consistent play, but I'm still waiting for Cramer to show up for the game and Immink played poorly in the first half and wasn't even in the game for Hope's run, but turned it around and played lights out in the second half.
Richardson did have a great game. I wondered why it took VWs so long to get him into the game in the second half, it was almost six minutes of terrible offense before Scott got in and sparked the team again. The ball moves so much better when he is in the game. Tyler Wolfe also had a great game. His game has improved more than anyone on the team since the beginning of the year.
Are the regional rankings out?

gotta love the critics who don't bother to sit in the student section.
Excellent point.Must be a reason he's not sitting there...like he was thrown out? The Dew Crew (in my humble opinion) is a pretty classy group, compared to many. I'm guessing this winner just didn't fit in, and now he's sad...
I'm going to take a guess, but he might not be sitting there because of the ME FIRST attitude that a lot of the front row guys have. It looks like it takes some of them longer to get ready than the players playing in the game. The front row guys don't even cheer; they just stand there and try to make witty insults at the opposing team. The Dew Crew is not for every Hope student.
That being said, Brent has become the unquestioned leader of that student section and it's performing at a level close to the Spanky days. His energy and the way he starts cheers will help in whatever way a student section can help a team, especially this Saturday.
BTW - I think with the players, the Albion game is a bigger game than the Calvin game these days.

I checked Hope's web page and Derek Van Solkema is now listed on the roster.
There are 16 names on the current roster. I wonder who Glen dumps to make it 15.
He won't have to make that decision until the NCAA's. Oddly enough, they'll also have to eliminate a coach or two, as I believe there is a limit on the number of people on the bench for the NCAA tournament.

Amen brotha. Let's remember that sporting events should be family events. I know that many families attend the Calvin games with young children. I understand that fans may disagree with an official or want to talk 'smack' to the other team and believe me, I am all for that, but foul language never should be appropriate in this setting.
The difference is in who makes up the fan base. At Calvin and Hope, there is plenty of community support. Albion and Kalamazoo have crowds that are largely parents and students. The administrations likely address behavior issues with this in mind. The alcohol policies of the schools probably have a lot to do with it too. Calvin and Hope are dry campuses.
GVW probably over recruits. I don't think you can blame him for the Brett Jager situation. Hope doesn't offer scholarships, the staff doesn't know who's going to be on their team for the next four years or are they limited to who can be on their team by the scholarships. He probably was telling players the honest truth, but then VanderHeide, Wolfe and VanSolkema come in and Jager moves down the list. As for Dan Holt, he's playing as much as he deserves to be playing at this point in his career. He still looks like he's growing into his size.

Veltema will play if he goes to Calvin too--and get more PT if he does. And he won't play much point at either school--especially if he goes to Calvin where I think Veldhouse and Smith have that position locked up for a while. Veltema is very versatile and he could play any of 3 positions if he goes to Calvin.
Veltema would wipe the floor with Smith. KVS would probably move Veltema or Veldhouse to the 2, since you guys are losing both Trewella and Drayer, and with nothing within the program to replace them.
At Hope, Veltema would probably be eased into the point guard spot. VanSolkema and Patridge are more 2's than 1's and Immink is leaving at 8 years at Hope.

Might you Knight fans being hoping a certain PG from Calvin Christian decides that he doesn't want to sit behind a D1 player at Hope? The kid from Calvin Christian will play if he goes to Hope. The ones that would be worried would be the ones that are destined to be 10-15th men for any time they spend on varsity anyway. Calvin can have all of those guys that they want.
