another couple observations about traveling students. remember students are poor, gas prices are up. Personally knowing some former Witt students, they commented they planned on making the trip to the conference tournament in Wooster or Wabash and thus; seeing their team play 2 games when it mattered instead of driving 3 hours to watch them play one regular season game. Also, i think the school has something to do with the low student attendence because in the past i believe they brought busses of students up for the game ? maybe the bussing wasnt offered ? or some other events on campus effected the turnout ( frat pledging or some other non athletic event).

Love the discussion fellas, just my 2 cents. In my time, quite a few freshmen quit because they would never play or wanted to join the highly touted "IFBPL".
Another portion quit because they realized they needed the time to focus on academics. I can think of a couple of people who certainly would have started that had to take this route " because academics is #1"
Back to those who stayed 4 years, it breeds and grows a program, even those who do not play, but stay for 4 years were some of the most inspirational to me as a young guy looking at the older guys, because they really loved the game. to the point that even though they would never see the field, they gave it there all every day at practice. When that happens with seniors, Underclassmen see that and follow it because they think thats what the program is all about. That is a real program builder, the kids should be commended. especially with sub par circumstances of having a revolving door of coaches.

? and yes, I would love a capri sun, got any cold spray I could borrow ?

As a side note, I have met Mr. Kehres several times, I do like him a lot, I love his passion. I am curious what is the graduation rate of Mount Union Football players ? You say it is good but I'd love to see a statistic. As well as that from several other OAC schools, and if you could maybe throw in a couple of NCAC schools. Please don't make a blanket statement without having facts that are available to public knowledge... Afterall.. thats what you have just belittled me for doing !
I did a little research of my own, this is what I came up with.
In the freshmen class entering the following schools in 2010 here are some admission facts.
School Ave. HS GPA min. transfer GPA
ONU 3.64 2.0
BW 3.5 2.5
UMU 3.19 2.0
Wilm 3.2 2.0
Marietta 3.4 2.3
Musk 3.14 2.0
JCU 3.36 2.0
Cap 3.47 2.5
Ott 3.3 2.5
H'berg 3.2 2.0
A few others:
gheny 3.75 2.5
kenyon 3.82 3.0
witt 3.49 2.0
woo 3.6 2.6
bash 3.5 N/A
OWU 3.3 2.5
Oberlin 3.6 3.0
Hiram 3.34 2.5
Den 3.6 2.75
Averages:
OAC = 3.34 2.18
NCAC= 3.55 2.31
Interpret these numbers however you would like, it is all from public information from princton review.
I have seen from doing this research that it is difficult to find most of the information you are looking for on a public forum such as the internet.
and let me take this opportunity to say I do apologize for getting a bit hasty with some of my statements, I cannot back them up with information from public internet searches, so therefore they must not be true (right 70's ?)
Pat, I have no intentions of calling out individual student-athletes using information I am privy to that may not be public, and thus I retract anything I have said in the past regarding transfer students and JuCo students and yes I lumped JuCo students in with transfers hastily.
When I said the elephant in the room, I was referencing difference in admission standards, not JuCo transfers, or any transfers. None the less, I am not Santa Claus, so there will be no making of a list and checking it twice. I would love to do so, but it just doesn't seem possible at this time with privacy policies, nor worth the time to prove a simple point( having transfers is not cheating after all, or illegal, just helpful :-))

My original start was simply a difference in admission standards. It got off on a slight tangent about JuCo and branch campus transfers. I have been shot down pretty rapidly and harshly for bringing up the idea, so I was planning on leaving it alone.
I don't believe I have the resources to know who is a transfer, and where they are from or specific examples of GPA's to prove a difference in admission standard. I believe that is covered under confidential information on a schools admission form. I will see what I can dig up sniffing around the internet.

70's I'm droppin it... i think its the elephant in the room.. but if we dont talk about it, maybe it wont/didnt happen. So go ahead over to the OAC board and talk about who Mt. Union will play in the finals. I sure hope you team doesnt have the attitude of your fans.

well well well, I was wrong on Mr. Garcon ! my apologies to the posters for the faulty information. as far as JuCo transfer at wabash, im sure you can find one here and there, but not in the numbers and quality you see in some certain OAC schools. but alas, it seems to be beating a dead horse.
In other news, yes, the 1st team does seem to be skewed a little toward witt. but every year the non-champion teams seem to feel that way !
heres to an off-season of improving ! hopefully we can recruit some of this top tier talent as well as improving the horses in the stables!

I believe I stated I thought witt would struggle on the road, like they have all year and WOW did they ever. too bad Mr. McKinley cant keep his emotions under control, not sure the witt defense will not be better off without his liability. I wonder how many personal fouls of his were in games where they lost by more than 2 scores. easy to go nuts and quit when your team is down and out.
I love that this OAC fella talks about winning with style, losing with class...
how many NCAC teams could have gotten JuCO transfer pierre garcon (colts WR) into their school ?
how about a different d1 transfer who spent a year in jail ? (who will remain nameless)
It would not happen, Our schools value the integrity of the institution. and would not put felons in the school system to try to win championships...
and the coaches do the best they can with what they got...NCAC teams wont be winning national football titles anytime soon.
Congrats Witt on the 2010 championship
time for Basketball !

visitor stands ? hahahaha
It is the new phys. ed canter, it extends from the old PEC, encompasses the hill and sort of wraps around behind the visitors sideline. it is supposed to be done january 1012.

Just trying to induce some non- Mt. union talk ( since their first game will likely be just like the muskingum game) what do you think of the ONU- Wittenberg matchup ? how about that a Wittenberg team which was 10-0 goes on the road to a one loss ONU ?

went to the woo_witt game... instant reaction is wow... can witt convert on long 3rd downs or what... woo didnt get pressure and it felt like witt converted on about 80% of their 3rd downs ( I am sure it wasn't that high, but felt like it) and wooster just shot them selves in the foot a few times. untimely interceptions and the like hurt us. the woo QB got hit on what seemed like every pass, and woo did not get enough pressure on the Witt QB. with that being said, as far as witt in the playoffs... I am concerned. I have watched a ton of OAC football this year, and only a little NCAC, and I would say witt may be the 4th best team in the OAC, somewhere around Otterbeins level. if thats the case, i would not expect anything more than a first round win for witt, and thats if they get a home game. if they go on the road ( as the RR project) in the first round, i think they can start focusing on academics a week earlier.
none the less, Congrats to the tigers 2010 NCAC champions

here is an interesting tie breaker idea... how about +/- in games between the 3 teams in question ?
Wooster would be -4 (21-17 loss to wabash) with one game pending
wabash would be -13 (21-17 win v. wooster) (34-17 loss to witt)
Wittenberg would be + 17 (34-17 win v. bash) with the one game pending
or look at record against common opponents outside the conference because we have more common opponents with the UAA/ NCAC agreement
Woo/bash- lost to wash u
witt- beat wash u
just my 1 1/2 cents
even though i dont think it will matter
