Morning all,

If you are in the Oxy area on October 6th, come out to the 7:00pm game against CMS to help remember an all time great.  Occidental will retire Andy Collins '07 No. 1 jersey at a ceremony preceding kickoff (~6:45pm).

If you have any interest in donating to a memorial fund being setup in Collins' name, please use the contract info on the above link for either Mike Libby or Zac Sakowski.

2008 offical home attendance stats. Rough showing for the SCIAC. Redlands and Oxy surprised me.

I highly doubt those numbers are accurate.
As do I.  I'm not sure exactly how they would estimate this.  I've been to many SCIAC/D3 games and never paid for a ticket.  I know students don't pay at most schools either.  I can understand keeping stats on the D1 level where everyone pays and security is tight, but when it comes down to it campus safety officers at D3 schools aren't exactly worrying about securing the perimeter and getting acurate attendence numbers.

Unless they've got someone sitting across from the stands counting...  ???

I am pleased I will get to see the away jerseys in SoCal again.  Does anyone at OXY think they can talk the SID into getting me a field pass?  I'm used to standing at LINFIELD games. Besides, I can no longer sit on that concrete and I don't own one of those donut thingies.
Just channel your inner college student and sneak onto the sideline.  No one will notice, just wear some Linfield stuff and hurry around carring a water bottle or a dufflebag.

"No time to talk, must hydrate wildcats.... Field pass?!?  You're going to ask me for field pass at a time like this?!?!"

Believe me the security guards only look like they care about securing the place.

Traditions yes, but if we told you, we'd have to kill you.

From ESPN's TMQ:

QuoteDouble Bonus Obscure College Score: Mount Union 45, Wheaton of Illinois 24 (Division III semifinal). Mount Union's Nate Kmic became the all-time NCAA leading rusher at 7,986 career yards, surpassing -- surely you know! -- Danny Woodhead. Woodhead, who played for Chadron State, broke the record previously held by -- surely you know! -- R.J. Bowers. Woodhead went undrafted, had a tryout with the Jets and was waived. Bowers, who played for Grove City College, spent a year on the Steelers' practice squad, then carried seven times for Pittsburgh in a late-season game. Kmic has one more appearance, next weekend's Division III championship versus Wisconsin-Whitewater, in which to extend his record. The Division III championship is called -- surely you know! -- the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl. Not to be confused with Wheaton College of Massachusetts, Wheaton College of Illinois, located in Wheaton, Ill., held its annual Christmas Festival three weeks before Christmas.

And I would bet the remains of my IRAs that the snark-meister who wrote that did not know ANY of the "obscure" facts before looking them up for the hatchet job.

Anyone who relies on ESPN to know diddly about d3 (or d2 for that matter) is living in a fool's paradise.

Congrats to all the players who were named all-conference and all-region. Brock Arndt and Jacob Calderon were really fun to watch on defense, and I don't think Ashton Clarke got enough "press" on here...he was rock solid for CMS. With Justin Goltz graduating and Dan Selway probably not coming back, it looks like CLU should be the favorite gping into next year. Oxy has had 2 excellent Qbs in a row so it'll be a challenge for Widolff to come up with another one.
I'm sure Widolff has some tricks up his sleeve.  Don't know much about the QB's left on the roster after this year.  The likely replacement for Goltz would probably be Saunders SR 5'11 205.  Other QB's on the roster currently are SR Kyle Kazarian 5'9 180 and SO Jordan 'The flyin' Hawaiian' Helle 6'3 225.  I would think Saunders has gained the most experience with the offense and game speed from backing up Goltz the last two years, however, on paper Helle might be a more naturally gifted at the position.

I also wouldn't discount Oxy's running game, which I know led the SCIAC this year (244yd/game), and I believe led the SCIAC last year as well.

Although we are sending congrats to all SCIAC winners today for their great job on the field, today is also a sad day in L.A. The World famous "Body Shop" on Sunset strip has been lost (due to a fire). This used to be a place were several of my teammates and I would hang out after our football season and always enjoyed the vibe at that place. It sure will be missed.  :-\
From what I read the damage was that extensive -- mostly in the attic (I didn't know strip clubs had attics, but now that I do I'm very interested), and of course the water and smoke damage.

Hopefully they can restore the place to former glory sooner rather than later.    :(

Keep in mind, the SCIAC really doesn't seem to follow NCAA rules.
What depth of misunderstanding would cause you to make such an utterly ridiculous and inaccurate statement?

For example, it might be a little known fact that Cal Lu violated recruiting rules last year. Did anything happen? No! No one seems to care. If Selway plays for two more years do you really think anyone is going to look into that.

What is it about this board that attracts one BS artist after another?

There's an implication in an earlier post that with Oxy, UR and CLU the SCIAC is a good football conference.

Really?  Since when?

What's the SCIAC's alltime DIII postseason record?

It's a bad football conference.  A bad athletic conference, period.

Who is this joker? The SCIAC is by no means a power house conference but to call it a bad conference is just plain idiotic.

How many SCIAC games have you seen?  You must be spending your time in La Verne.
Whoa, whoa, whoa... That's MR California you're talking to there, show some respect.  A PU is building on their 2nd win of the season over the East Texas Baptist Tigers...

Great season by the Tigers that unfortunately ended early.  Good work by the WU broadcasting crew seeing as I couldn't make it up to the great white north for the game.  Sounded like the Tigers were in it to win the entire game and didn't show signs of backing off.  I think that speaks volumes of the coaching staff and the players that they have coming up.  The future looks bright in Tiger Town, but we'll have to wait until next year.   :-\

So what is Occidental's strategy going to be to get a home game next time they have an undefeated season? Is it drop Colorado College and pick up LINFIELD or a WIAC foe?
I'd rather us pick up WU or Whitworth seeing as linfield hasn't won the conference in a few years...  :o  I don't know what the Tigers 2009 schedule looks like just yet... if it hasn't already been decided we can only hope that we begin booking (at the very least) home/home's with the NWC.
