57, what do you know about O'Dell Brewing?  They are next door to New Belgium and make some good beers, too!

Duff, I am a huge fan of the O'Dell offerings! Sum Jr. is living in the Denver area now. Toured O'Dell's brewery this past summer when we were out there. I like their 5 Barrel Pale Ale,Titan IPA and the Myrcenary Double IPA is great too. They also make a "small batch" series. The small batch 471 was outstanding.

Thomas Liquor over on Grand Ave carries some of their beers.

Mose, are you going to make the trip to watch your Tommies in action?

Happen to be temporarily between trips west and north for various types of feather and fowl. Rest assured, Sum and the Mrs. will not go hungry this winter.

Lost my connection in C-ville. Watch is now in the greater Denver area! Like DP mentioned earlier the J's non-conference schedule is a killer. Coach Smith returns to his roots with the trip to Marquette.

Couple more trips either direction and I will be back for the duration!!!!

Column in the Fargo Fool-Em this morning, seems that the Cobbers are pretty comfortable playing at Clemens Stadium. I have a good friend whose son is playing for the Cobbers. Sure would be nice if the J's would return to form and pound the Cobbers. It would at least give me bragging rights for a while.

Are you kidding....that's way past my bedtime. I fell asleep in the 1st quarter. Just read about it through the various online sources.

Safe travels for all the Johnnie faithful this weekend!!

I have a Happy Labor Day present for Summander but I can't get the url past the censorship software :o in order to post a link. ;D  So, Sum - if you'll buy and wear the shirt to one of our games this season, I'll pay for it. ;)

You can find it at (you'll have to fill in the blanks): http://www.lanef--kingkiffin.com/  8-)

(Hey, Sum, at least they won last night.)

Thanks Tmert, awfully nice of you to think of your little buddy up here in Northern Minny! I will pass on that offer though.

Looks like the defense is going to be a little bit suspect this year. Maybe #13 would consider transfering?? This not tackling in practice works at SJU but must not at USC!

Sum - what's happening up in your part of the world August 5th-7th?  I was thinking of heading up to lakes country for a weekend getaway next month & all of the decent hotels seemed to be booked in Alex & Detroit Lakes.  The surrounding weekends seem to be relatively normal. Could it be that I go on vacation so infrequently that I didn't realize this is typical weekend traffic for resort type of towns?

DP August 5,6,7 Would be WE Fest weekend here in DL, great for the economy, but not so much if you are looking to vacation here that weekend

Summer reading/ movie recommendation:  If you’re a fan of mystery novels, I would recommend The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Ironically, daughter #1 read this book on our recent trip to Colorado to see daughter #2. She recommended it as well. She compared it to the Dan Brown novels (Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons).

Nice fish Duff! You finally caught one of the correct species!  ;) I picked up a 27" on LOW a couple of weeks ago.

BTW, have you tried any of the offerings from Flying Dog Breweries?

My favorites in order are:
1)Doggie Style APA
2)Snake Dog IPA
3)Raging Bitch Belgian IPA

All of them worth a sample.

Hopefully St. John's ordered numbers 61-69 for their basketball team next season:

PI, Same song (fill in the #)verse. It seems the J's philosphy for at least the last few years is bring in as many players as you can and see who sticks it out for 4 years.

WW, Thanks for the update, enjoyed the post!!

Something makes me think of Grantland Rice today ...

For when the One Great Scorer comes
To mark against your name,
He writes not that you won or lost
But how you played the Game.

BTW, where's Summander? 8-)

Tmert, just returned from a golfing holiday. Our group was fortunate enough to be drawn in the lottery last Thursday to play the Old Course at St. Andrews!!! What an experience.

7 straight days of golf was an awful lot though! Beer sucked, scotch was great!  ;)

And of course I almost forgot former Arizona coach, Lute Olson, another Mayville ND native, & LA Laker coach Phil Jackson. I believe Jackson was from western ND - Williston?  The Upper Midwest - the new cradle of coaches indeed!   ;) ;D

Little known fact, Lute actually coached high school BB at Mahnomen and Two Harbors!

Phil Jackson was a standout player for Bill Fitch at UND in the early sixties!

From the "for what it's worth" department MSUM has named Chad Walthall it's men's BB coach.

Looking at the candidates, not a surprise in my mind.

Sum, brewed anything good lately???

Drinking a Northern Brewer Honey Weiss now, that is ok. Just brewed a Surly Furious knock off that I am real excited about. it will be a few weeks before I can keg that and sample it.

Found this at Thomas Liquor a couple of weeks ago. I really like it. If you haven't already, I would suggest picking up a sixer! Tried the Summit Horizon Red Ale and thought that was decent too.

How about you, anything new worth trying besides the Grain Belt NordEast?

We're in MSP on the way out - hadn't read the board since Thursday so I missed the news about Sum, Jr (congrats, Sum - there certainly was a bevy of Andersons - exceeded only by the number of Johnsons) and about the gee-radge - but a rain-check seems especially in order.  Sunday was a glorious day, though - all the stranger to find that Fishers had their deck closed due to "cold weather" - WTF?  BTW, Ryan Wimmer is working for DNR in Detroit Lakes this summer so Sum might see him around testing water.

Tmert, I looked for you on Sunday, to no avail. Did See #13 cross the stage though. Congratulations as well.

Is Ryan Wimmer working for the DNR? One of my customers is the #1 water testing lab in the upper midwest. I wonder if he is going to work for them?
