Sounds like some excitement from St. Paul!!  More and more thrills as this upside down season rolls on... As I said last week, cant look past Hamline.. their record would not indicate how hard they have worked this season and certainly hats off to the pipers for continuing to keep things interesting for us all.  God Bless the toe of once ridiculed, now adored Cobber Kicker Carl Hauser for keeping the faith in the #38 shirt, like the man that wore it before him, he is becoming a brilliant place man, well done O-ZONE.  Jesse Nelson and Co, also well done.. a career day from the very handsome wide-out Nick Alton as he put it "the most fun I've ever had playing", not to mention some stellar pressure put on the slippery Piper QB by the big guy outta the Brainerd Lakes 99Teeezy-Simply hurtin' fools...  Keep up the good work Maroon, it will pay off.  Wish I could be there to enjoy it.

CornHorn...my comments were not that I expected those clubs to vault past the Cobblers, but rather they are the only teams that have players that have played in a playoff game or two.  Like it or not, the playoffs are a different beast altogether.  If you think a team without playoff experience, exceptional speed and the forward pass can go into the playoffs and make a run; enjoy November.  It will be enlightening.

Concordia made the national tournament in 2004 and 2005. You can say you don't respect their speed or scheme, but questioning their postseason experience seems a little silly.

CC's #2 QB in 2005?  A freshman named Jesse Nelson.

CC's #2 RB (by a poofteenth of an inch) in 2005?  A freshman named Cory Johnson.

The Cobbers are the MIAC's best shot at playoff glory, I figure.  Second round if they make it.  Maybe third.

Cory Johnson was started the first week of the season his freshmen year.  He has the most playoff experience of all the cobbers.  However, I hope they aren't looking any further than Hamline this weekend in St. Paul.

Amen CNation.  I will say that even halfway around the world I continue to be surprised by this MIAC table each and every week.  As I said last week, UST had a shot.. and clearly from the video footage.. don't know what to say, but yes Johnnie faithful, it does come down to 4 chances on the 1 yard line. Fine.  Anyhow, hats off to my beloved Cobbers for a well fought victory in Minneapolis, if they take it one week at a time.. who knows what can happen.

I must admit.. and please understand I never thought I would say this in recent history, that regardless of how nonexistent tommie fans, students, faculty ect are about their football team, the team itself has a real shot a beating the boy from collegeville.. and with a season like this.. I guess why not?

The Tommies suck no more and have the ship steered in the right direction.

This may be overstating things a bit (I'm not exactly overwhelmed by wins over GAC, Mac, and Hamline and an admittedly very close loss to a pretty ordinary St. Olaf), but I'm afraid you are right about the program heading in the right direction.

Between a supposedly star-studded recruiting class and replacing Roney with Caruso it's not impossible to think UST will be relevant again in the next few years.  Which goes back to my earlier point: there's reason for optimism with pretty much every team in the MIAC (except for, relatively speaking, St. John's).  Gustavus and Hamline just got facilities upgrades, St. Thomas just had a regime change, Carleton has the Eagle pointed in the right direction for the first time in forever, Augsburg has MIAC title hopes, Concordia has a helmet color scheme that doesn't automatically induce vomiting, and Bethel has beaten St. John's three years in a row and has a Western Region championship to show for it.  I'd say that's a pretty strong conference.

Also, plans are in the works to rebrand www.JohnnieFootball.com.  Coming soon, from the makers of JF.com: www.JohnnieGolf.com!

Jery well put, I think you said just about everything that I was just thinking.

Who would have thought the MIAC standings would look like this so far at the beginning of the year:

2008 MIAC Football
School            MIAC   Overall
1. Augsburg     2-0        4-0
Carleton          2-0       4-0
Concordia       2-0        3-1
4. St. Thomas   2-1       3-1
5. Saint John's 1-2        3-2
St. Olaf           1-2        3-2
Gustavus        1-2        2-2
Bethel            1-2         2-3
9. Hamline       0-3        1-3

Congrats to the knights on a huge win over the Oles.  Great to finally right the ship and end the winning streak they've had going in the series recently.  They were definately the better team on the field today, a huge game by Frank today.  If he can stay relatively healthy he is impossible for teams to match up with.  Ziller at safety is a beast as well, a couple huge sacks on 3rd and 4th downs and always seems to deliver big hits.  Olaf needs to get the ball in the hands of their freshman RB/WR #5 Clark more, he seemed to be the most explosive player they had, but I didn't even notice him until the second half.  Definately not the explosive offense that we've seen from Olaf in recent years.

Looks like it's going to be a good one down in Northfield for homecoming next weekend in a battle of the undefeateds.  I'm excited and curious to actually see Augsburg play this year.  It should be an interesting matchup of two teams that like to throw the ball around, although Carleton's been much more balanced as of late, some of which could be attributed to playing with leads later in the games.  Should be fun.

The eagle is finally pointed in the right direction again...Go Knights!

I'm not sure whats happening in Minnesota this season, but if I were to ask ANYONE where we would be this far along in the season.. there is no way we could possibly have seen this coming.  Upsets everywhere, teams out of the basement after years of disapointment, a defending MIAC Champion simply struggling to stay afloat, and the usual dominant teams being snuffed out.  I find it interesting that the D3 top 25 always seems to favour the beloved Johnnie hopeful simply because of who they were, not ever on who they ARE.  As long as I have followed the MIAC since going to CC as a student in '04 it has been this way regardless on how SJU is actually playing!  For once the Johnnies may actually be OFF the poll, its time to see the Augsburgs and Carletons of the world to get their chance to shine.  Even though I love my Norwegian brothers at STO, hats of to the Knights for taking the Goat, Bowl, and most importantly EAGLE to keep things interesting, a true rivalry goes back and forth, not one way as its been for years in Northfield. I will be very interesting to see what happens at the end of this escapade that is called MIAC Football 2008. I myself can't see any clear Champ, we'll just have to wait and see..

Cobbs Win!! Cobbs Win!!

Firstly, great game red, twas a nail bitter! Congratulations Cobbers, another tough hard nosed game played between what continues to be one of the best rivalries in DIII.  Williamson definitely was the player of the game, I think kicking 10 or more times with consistency in putting the ball in great position was key in keeping SJU at bay.  Obviously there are still questions that obviously need to be answered by both teams, but it sounds as though the BOTH defences played their hearts out and the game could have gone either way, but clearly Coach G needs to pick a QB.  The Johnnies have dominated the Win column for nearly 20 years, CC was bound to get a bounce their way at some point, especially after the clear domination of games in '05 and in '06. So well done Jesse Nelson and co. this could be the start to a MIAC title heading back to the Red River Valley.

For Reformation Bowl 2008 I wish both the Johnnie and Cobber Nations the very best as I know this is the best game of the season and always proves (with the exception of last year perhaps) to be a nail biter of a matchup.  Congrats to Coach G on the 600th game and at this rate I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him in 600 more.

Wow.  What happened to Carleton?  Way to go Cobbs setting records (Swingdorf, Johnson-big offense! Strother in sacks ect.) on a forgotten season by everyone in the MIAC.  The Fargo Forum even calling Jesse Nelson "Shumacher-esque".. best of luck SJU, STO, and Bethel in getting bids in the NCAA this year.  See you in 2008..

IN my opinion Concordia definitely outplayed St. Olaf.  St. Olaf was lucky come away with a win form that game.  Deontae not playing did hurt the D, but it was ugly.  I did like the decision to go for 2 by Concordia since they were on the road.  St. Olaf was finally starting to stop Concordia during that final drive.

The Ole offense also looked to be missing a few players, and Schmeising needs to get more involved in the Offense.

The penalty stat has to be wrong.  I seem to remember the Oles getting more penalties.  The Oles at times make it an art, and of course they always come at the worst times.

Yes it was up and down for both sides of the football for both teams, but generally a tight matchup.  I agree with the call to go for two at the end as well as did the guys that I talked to after the game.  To a few of the STO fans, a few of you need to take a look at the MIAC motto.. they score sould certainly say that we had a great afternoon of football, there was no reason for the lack of sportsmanship.  As for the calls, there was def more call against the Oles, but that does in no way excuse some (4 in particular) calls that were easily missed.  All in all a great matchup as I said before.. I just dont see how the Cobbs are still being snuffed out of a "others receiving votes" catagory..  our boys are giving us a great season, and obviously besides the SJU score, should be seen as another great team in D-III.  For all its worth, they have my vote.

See you in St. Paul on Saturday

Sounds like a great game from Collegeville, where the Johnnies somehow always find a way to pull out a win.. it gets old after a few decades >:(!!  Anyways, good homecoming in Moorhead, a bit sloppy to say the least as CN said before, but a win is a win is a win, and the defense was intense, wow Strother and Carlson were in the zone always puting pressure on the QB every down not to mention Lewis who too, seemed always to be involved in just about every play.  Now to the Oles, congrats a great game against the Johnnies, and now, its time for Lefse Bowl 2007!  See you guys at the Legion on Friday night, I need to hear me some Dazasta.. UM NO NO
