Quote from: OurHouse on February 22, 2008, 02:49:19 AMI cannot believe you posted the statements above....you are way off on your assessments
jmho~

OurHouse, there are several posters - most here actually - whose opinion I respect and who I read very carefully when they disagree with me.

You are not one of those posters.

Nothing but integrity!...that's precisely why you're one of my favorites Q and why so many learn so much from you and this site...thank you.

:)  got it.  Thanks!  See you at the games.

"Well......I feel good about this, I think we've all arrived at a very special place. Spiritually, ecumenically,.........grammatically."

Hey Sac...always wanted to ask..that's a quote from a movie or something????  Where did it come from???  Seems like I should know it and it drives me crazy.

There.

There's my first question.

Hey Dennis - it was really nice to meet you in person - i've been following this site for the last 5 years...and just to set the record straight...Nick played in Ireland, it was Chris Martin that played in Luxembourg - although they will be playing this summer together and I believe that both their intentions are to get back to Europe in the fall....I can't help myself and still attend the CCIW games...just love the game....had the pleasure of meeting Titan Q at the games at IWU and met him at a few others...how can you not be a fan!!  But have also really enjoyed the posts of Ypsi, Coleman, April and Sager---I've learned a lot by reading (was always too embarassed to ask too many questions) but enough people post that you get your questions answered.  This is a great site and thanks for keeping it going!  I'll see you I'm sure!

hmmmm ???

thanks for being patient with my questions...i'm sure you've answered these a billion times before.  i appreciate it.

OK, so Mr. Ypsi....thank you, you explained it perfectly---i totally get it now....but what still doesn't make sense to me then is why a team would refuse to play us....wouldn't it behoove all teams to play at their "level" or better, (plus staying in region, right?) so that if you pulled off a victory it would mean more points???  Isn't that worth the risk to any team, keeping in mind that you have to minimize your losses (especially the ones with the less than .333)?  And what is a coach supposed to do if he's scrambling to get good games lined up----is it that the other teams are too chicken and afraid of what a potential loss could cost them???

Jaybird....i don't really understand all the mathematics that go into the equations that allow a team to get in or not get into the tourney---frankly i hate that system....you come off of a season like the Jays and I'm stunned that you can't make it in...but i don't believe it's bad blood that teams didn't want to play them----just like it cost us points in playing out of region games, i'm guessing that perhaps it would cost them too many points and hurt "their" chances of getting in if they lost to elmhurst.  Titan Q or Sager would be a good one to ask.

What i was wondering is if they take the top 18 team in Pool C how many at large bids are there and who and what determines those??

Hi Q---Heard Gensler was out with tonsilitis.

...and on top of that...my husband would NEVER let me get away with coming home and complaining that officiating was the cause of one of our losses...he says you can't allow them to determine the outcome of your game---you have to be smart and play hard and that's that!

EM-----

Finally something we can agree on.
Congrats to your son if he has all A's---very hard to do. A true student-athlete.
As far as the officiating------>  :(

I hope you didn't interpret what i said as i'm feeling like i'm blaming them for team's losses...i'm not, i am just frustrated with how inconsistent every game is...one game we can't barely play a full minute without a whistle and the next game they're calling stuff that is so far reaching that they might as well have blown the whistle at me.

Quote from: mr_b on January 26, 2007, 12:06:18 PMThe NCCA conducts some intriguing research on the likelihood of a student-athlete participating in a collegiate-level sport (http://www.ncaa.org/research/prob_of_competing/).  The table shows that 2.9% of all high school athletes go on to play basketball in the NCAA.  At the DIII level, these student-athletes are competing for the love of the game because the chance of them getting drafted is very remote.  Of course, the range of quality and talent is wide, but to term players and teams as "useless" and "garbage" is an affront to everyone involved.  Even a player who has career totals of one minute of playing time with zero points on a team that goes 0-24 nevertheless deserves my respect and recognition for the sacrifices made -- the utility costs are very high.  They are competing in practices and games, and I'm not.

Well said---and all of that coupled with the fact that these guys are working their butts off in a tough league while juggling studies and maintaining excellent GPA's and in some cases pulling STRAIGHT A's (i can only speak for my kid) with tuition that can be pretty steep in these private schools.  Ourhouse---the only useless thing on this site is YOU so pipe down and go back to YOURHOUSE and stay there!
As long as I'm on I would like to add that I too am a bit frustrated with the officiating this year...never been this frustrated before...and as far as the Elmhurst vs Wheaton game...Wheaton played hard and fast and did a great job as did their big men.  I was sad...but can't deny them that!

Well, Augie will have a little "mo" on their side coming into Elmhurst on Saturday, after their win yesterday.  I think one of the Bluejays' keys is to contain D. Swetalla, but more importantly clean up their defense which was porous at times vs. Beloit.
For Augie, I think one of their keys is to control Nick Michael's play inside.  Also, I look for Elmhurst's Bench  (P. Bacon) to come up big.  I am looking forward to Saturday's game.

I just have a sense that Augie may have more of a problem with Ruch than with Michael. Ruch has 81 boards in 237 minutes compared with 75 for Michael in 310 minutes. If Augie leans on Michael and plays physical on him, I think he will back down a bit under the pressure. On the other hand, Ruch will dish out as much as he takes.

I was thinking the same thing, AO.

Will I get an e-scolding if I say that I was thinking that three days ago........?

nope....stats are stats  & we'll see  :)  AO - thanks!

Well, AndOne...what a way to start your relationship on this board "in my opinion"...jumping to conclusions in YOUR interpretations of another's comments and now the criticizing and name calling of players....hmmmmm....I read this board much more than I post as the posters on this board are very knowledgable, respectful, supportive---I learn a lot from them....perhaps you should READ more too instead of offering up unnecessary lip service.  Just my opinion.

Titan Q---great article---thanks for sharing.

"I agree with your analysis of NCC's frontcourt. Also about Augie's. I think Elmhurst's is pretty good as well, but not quite up to the level of the other two. I am a fan of Brent Ruch. I think he is very good and will be a force. Nick Michael is good too, but, in my opinion, plays a bit soft. He is also a whiner when calls go against him."

yeah and not to mention the "inside condition" of those shoes.....you are brave!! yuk!

it's not only that....even in the off season when he wants some of those summer flips (sandals) the guys wear....cripe...given his size it still costs me an arm and a leg!   he told me one day he was going to go into business and open a big man's store so big guys his age could find something to wear that was in style without looking like a 20 year old in a old guys golf outfit!   tough to find cool stuff and it's NEVER cheap!
