I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Midd won't be coming out on top in the NESCAC  ;)

Wow, you are right Colby Hoops.  That was a WILD game in Waterville.  Bates pretty much dominated the game in regulation until the end when Dorion hit that huge 3 to send it into OT.  Whenever the game seemed like Colby would win, Bates would come back.  In the 2nd OT it looked bleak for the Mules until Will King hit that huge 3 to send it into triple OT with about 6 seconds left.  In the 3rd OT, it was pretty much all Colby at that point.

King was an absolute beast for Colby with 32 points, 11 rebs and 5 assists.  Noah Tyson had a big 2nd half and hit some deep threes in the overtimes.  Matt Hanna had a relatively quiet game but made the big layup to send it into the second OT.

Interesting to see Jefferson get in the game - I wonder if it was to get him acclimated to game speed again?  The box score only had him as playing 1 minute and he looked stiff out there (rightfully so given the injury).  Hopefully he continues to improve and can give them some more minutes this weekend against Amherst.

Caught the very end of the Amherst-Williams game in regulation - that was also a wild end to send it into OT.  Curious to hear from those who watched it on the takeaways from that game.

Yes, if Bowdoin wins tomorrow, I believe they would be the 7 seed since they beat both Bates and Hamilton.

lumbercat, the T you are referencing in the Tufts game was when Jefferson got hammered right in front of the ref.  It was a blatantly obvious foul that wasn't called.  At that time, I'm sure frustration from how the game was going played a large part in Strahorn's outburst.  Also, the game was in the bag for Tufts at that point so it didn't play a role in the outcome.

I think anyone who ever played for Whit or watched him closely as you say would have a good chuckle at your characterization that he was composed.  Whit was the definition of a coach who was wound too tight and constantly over the officials.

I agree with Old Guy.  I think the Bates gym is actually a great place to play as a visitor (and this is coming from a rival alum).  I liked the old feel and the small confines.  Tufts was another place I liked - soft rims, scoreboard above the court.

The old Wesleyan gym never impressed me much, neither did Conn College's.

All in all, I would say many of the NESCAC gyms are great places to play.

I'm trying to come up with a Colby all-time team but it's hard as many of their best players played before my time.  So I don't want to do a disservice or disrespect anyone I leave out.  But here are some names (more than 5) and hopefully others who are a little more familiar can chime in:

G - Rick Fusco (1980-83), 817 career assists, 260 assists in one season
G - Matt Hancock (1987-90), 3 Time All-American, National Player of the Year 1990, 2,678 career points (4th all-time in D3)
F - Harland Storey (1981-85), 2 Time All-American, 1,710 career points
F - Kevin Whitmore (1988-91), All-American, 1,367 career points
F - Brad Moore (1971-75) All-American, 1,935 career points, 1,392 career rebounds

G - John Daileanes (1989-92), All-American, 1,605 career points
F - Paul Harvey (1975-78), 2 Time All-American, 2,075 career points
G - Mike McGee (1977-79, only played freshman and sophomore years at Colby), All-American, 1,251 career points

I would like to begin by throwing out my take on Bowdoin's best starting five:

G-Dennis Jacobi (1988-92)
G-Kyle Jackson (2005-09)
F-Gregg Fasulo (1974-78)
F-Chris Jerome (1979-83)
C-Joe Williams (1984-88)

No Kyle Petrie??

lefrakenstein,

Farrell's stats that year:
Overall: 19 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 3.8 apg, 40% 3 fg
Conference: 20.4 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.8 apg, 40% 3 fg

When you say "jacking up ridiculous shots" I'm assuming you're talking about 3 pointers since he took 241 that year.  He also made 97 of them.  Making 40% of these "ridiculous shots" is pretty good I'd say.  I think putting up 20 points per game made him AT LEAST top 5 that year.

I heard that Joe Reilly from Bates is a main candidate for the Wesleyan fulltime job...does anyone know anything more about that, or has anyone heard that?  I know his family has strong ties to CT coaching...that could be interesting...

Jumbos35,

The new Wesleyan coach is Jay Johnson, Colby '03.  He was an assistant at Colby for a couple years then spent last year as an assistant at Harvard.

What I would like to know is how did Stockwell make FIRST team when Cohen didn't make either?  (I'm leaving Kelly and Stone and any others who could've/should've out for now, someone else can make their cases if they care enough to).  A look at the numbers:

Stockwell's averages:
Overall: 15.9 ppg, 9 rpg, 1.8 apg, 5 TOTAL BLOCKS.
Conference: 12.8 pts, 7.8 rpg, 1.6 apg.

His team goes 3-6 in conference and is an 8 seed.

Cohen's averages:
Overall: 15.3 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 2 apg, 84 blocks.
Conference: 12.7 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 2.3 apg, 36 blocks.

His team goes 5-4 in conference and is a 5th seed.

Scoring and rebounding - nearly identical, Cohen blows Stockwell out on the defensive end, and his team had more wins.  They were both pretty inconsistent in conference play.  Now, can anyone give me a logical explanation as how/why Stockwell gets First Team and Cohen gets left off??

Spengler-

Who am I? Well, based on your posts, I would classify myself as someone much more knowledgeable about basketball than you.  And as far as the Cohen-Hopkins debate, I will refer to the sales analogy "You can't sell stupid" - indicating some people just don't get it.  That of course, would be you.  Cohen is the better player, I don't need to look at stats.  However, I will now heed nescac1's advice and ignore your posts.

More importantly, I would like to hear formerbant's scouting report on 7'9 Sun Ming Ming.  I saw his line from the game, seems like a bigtime project.

Jamie Snyder-Fair for NESCAC Assistant Coach of the Year??? (I know they don't have one, they should institute one for the Big Man)

Spengler-

What demoralizing dunk are you talking about that has anything to do with Drew Cohen?  Was it another one of those phantom "dunks over Cohen" when he was trailing the play, like the one in Waterville?  Or was it a dunk over someone else when Cohen was sitting on the bench?  Or was it the one when Hopkins dunked in practice over a scout player pretending to be Cohen and you mistook that for being real?  I'm not sure which "demoralizing dunk" you're referencing.  Then again, I should probably take nescac1's advice and ignore your posts.

eclinchy-

I checked the Colby website and the statistical booklet they give to the players and former players following the season that has all the records and there is no mention of blocks.  From what I hear from the their longtime coaches and alums, there hasn't been someone who blocks shots the way he does.  So, I'm pretty sure Cohen holds all the blocks records (single game, season, career).

As far as the Colby-Tufts game yesterday, I thought Colby's bench played well - Cutrone and Simpson in particular.  Farrell made big shots down the stretch and made a huge play forcing a turnover on Shepherd that led to Colby taking the lead.  Cohen had a near quadruple double with 25 pts, 11 rebs, 8 blocks and 7 assists.  Choice played a good inside and outside game and looks to be a player in the next few years.

Is Weitzen hurt? He didn't seem to be involved too much in the game (24 mins, 8 pts, 6 rebs, 4 assists)

Also, does anyone know the status of Pierce regarding the incident at the end of the game?  A Colby player who was standing there told me he called one of the refs a "c*cks*cker" and that he might not be playing next week - any truth to that?

Formerbant,

Good call on Cohen's monster game.  He was a beast.  I was there and sitting behind the statkeeper so I saw what he had for stats throughout the game - he had 24 and 13 at halftime and then had 35 pts with 8 mins to go, but didn't see the ball much after that.  Also, he was credited with 9 blocks but I swear it was more like 13-14, the statkeepers missed a few.

Besides that it was a fairly sloppy game on both ends, Colby got hurt by their lack of depth due to some injuries.

Nick Farrell is still the most underrated PG in the league.
