Ron,

Congratulations to the Tigers. Maryville had some early season struggles for a Lambert coached team but turned it around somewhat after Christmas. Hope that the Tigers play well as the tourney goes on-Lambert said that the ball pressure they put on our perimeter was outstanding and our offense was operating forty feet from the basket. From Maryville College our best to the Tigers and although I couldn't make the road trip- I know you guys were first class hosts. Great campus, great school and obviously a first class team.

Someone please locate TR and settle the Lambert's best talent question. I know what he will say. It was any game where Shiela Evans danced at halftime. Shiela Evans, dancing at halftime, was the most talent ever seen on the  RDL watch. All others are imposters, wannabes (save the dance instructor from Clinton who helped her cheer squad early in this season). This forum is not the proper place for such debate. Killer, The Grubby One, Beaty, all of Lambert's children, are welcomed at the table of greatness.

Trinity is a great school-fine university. One of the nation's best. The Scots belonged in the dance just as much as Trinity. If you noticed my post, it said "If Southwestern wins the AQ," and of course they did not as they lost to the Centre. No way three SCAC teams deserved to dance-just infeasible as we both know Centre and Trinity are the best of that league-and they both are in. Maryville College has played Trinity before in the NCAA tourney, and traveling for the Scots is no big deal. Far better to be in San Antonio this time of year than in any other place MC could have landed. Look forward to being in San Antonio to see the Tigers for the first time since the Charlie Brock days. Thanks for your post.

Mr. Ypsi,

I agree. Depauw and Roanoke will be building sand castles. Mcmurray loses their slot by falling to Miss College. Randy Mac I agree is bubbling-while Guilford-if they are the best ODAC after the AQ, should get in. The criteria is fairly specific, but when coaches are involved subjectivity, at some point, and basketball knowledge, will come into play. To act like Southwestern might get in with a 7-8 conference record is absurd. If Southwestern wins the AQ, Trinity should join the Ballers Gone Wild Spring Break for non-NCAA tourney teams. Nice post.

Ralph, I coached in both the D-3 and D-1 tournaments, and I can tell you that teams that win sixteen straight are more prepared for the post season than a team that can't win in a conference quarterfinal. I mentioned the Big East only as a reference point in that the SCAC and ODAC aren't power conferences. Maryville has gone ON THE ROAD in the NCAA TOURNEY and beaten conference champions from both these leagues under the Lambert watch. A loss in November may count the same as a loss in February, but not to anyone who has ever had a young team that got better and better and won their last sixteen straight with freshman and sophomores. Guilford, Randy Mac, Depauw, Roanoke, had the easiest road into the tourney. They did not take care of business and no way should their season's be extended when they can't win a conference quarterfinal game. I may be a loss, but it says a great deal about a teams readiness and sense of urgency when they can't win a first round confreence tourney game. I'm sorry-those guys need to call Panama City and get a condo. Spring break for them started with a first round conference tourney loss.

Guilford, Randy Mac, Depauw and Roanoke, all of you should be staying home. Losing in your conference quarters illustrates your level TODAY in comparison to tournament ready teams. Those guys aren't playing in the Big East. Those teams needed to win one game to get in and they could not. Those four teams got what they deserved-a SEASON ENDING LOSS. Hard to believe we are saying sneak in when Maryville has won SIXTEEN straight.

Thanks for the post Ralph. Sad to see that 16 straight wins is not a criteria for being in. Maryville's win over Averett is reflective of the youth movement this Scots team had. In the past Maryville has been upperclassmen heavy and were early season road warriors. Once our freshman got acclimated this was a good team-NCAA worthy. I appreciate your post and will check out the criteria.

Randolph Macon loses to Virginia Wesleyan in conference quarters. Roanoke loses to Hampden-Sydney in conference quarters. FYI posters. MARYVILLE COLLEGE beats Virginia Wesleyan and Hampden-Sydney this year. This season. With a bunch of freshman and sophs. Maryville College has won 16 straight. MC is in.

No way the 3rd place team in the SCAC (a quarterfinal loser) is in the tourney. Maryville College wins its last 16 STRAIGHT with a youth movement after playing nine of first 11 on the road. Scots are a perennial tourney invite and this year should be no different. 16 straight wins to end the season should get you in.

Scots win at Huntingdon. 8-20 from 3 land very good number and good to see Shumate hit some shots and contribute. Don't be surprised when MC wins out and dances. This team is getting better and from an old timer have enjoyed watching the effort and intensity. Great job Scots!

The Scots are still getting better. Not playing well and winning is better than not playing well and getting the L. I still believe that with a win out the Scots will be THE LAST team to make the NCAA field. As the Grubby One and even Killer would know, never count the Scots out until the last song is played and the dj is packing up his stuff.

Great article on Greg Hernandez in the Knoxville New-Sentinel today (1-14-2009).
Big Dog does not post links however the gist of the article is hard work, hard work, hard work by Greg Hernandez. Someone asked me about why Orr is not playing-and it all gets back to the article on Greg Hernandez. Hard work, hard work, hard work. Life doesn't give you anything, why should the dolly llama of coaches Daddy Rabbitt Lambert put you on the court if you don't have the main component on the fine article on Mr. Hernandez. HARD WORK. Nice job Greg, 20 plus and 10 plus every night. Go get it for us.

Basketball is a tournament game, however with the GSAC and the no automatic bid you don't always get treated that way. Basketball has always been about getting better and player improvement and this Scots team is no different, they are getting better and improving and it is just unfortunate they had some early season losses on the road. I believe they will be NCAA tournament quality by season end-whether they are in or not is not left up to me. I would like to say that the MC dance team is NCAA quality already and it is just the mid season. Shiela Evans would come off the bench for this crew.

Nice win over Methodist for the Orange and Garnet. Scots getting better. Basketball is a tournament game and the Scots are improving. By year end, the level of play should be very, very good.
