DV, you need to look a little closer.  No doubt that C-state has big shoes to fill in losing Scott, Simon, and Frank, but they have a lot of talent returning.  There's a bunch of guys, QM included, who played big roles this season and last.  The line-up at C-state seems very strategic or role oreinted.  See earlier references to point guard by committee in this forum.  And when Simon came off the bench, was it to replace Taggart or the starting point guard of the week?

The other thing to keep in mind is player determination. Frank and Simon were often starters on one of the worst teams in C-state history and they were the keys to one of the best.  Many of the recruits who came after them were better than they were as freshmen; the question remains whether they will become as good as Frank and Simon did as juniors and seniors.

RE: all sunyac predictions by thebear.

I'd have to switch Ranieri and Taggart (or bump another of your first teamers to leave room for both R and T).  Scott's contributions have been huge, but Frank gets more minutes and is always in when the game is close.  Scott plays less and may or may not be in at the end, depending on situation.   And when he's in, he comes through big time.  There's no stat for leadership, but if there were, Frank, Simon, and Scott would all be at the top, and Frank just might be off the chart.

That said, none of these three would care as much about being all sunyac as they would about winning sunyac and more.  Basketball is a team sport, and Cortland's success is, if nothing else, a reflection of the fact that they get that.

IT has 5 players with double figures and wins both halves.  Statistically, turnovers and rebounding explain the margin of victory.  Combined, they give IT 23 more shots.

And from the Bears' website....
"The Bears led in every offensive category in the game, shooting an impressive 51.6% from the field to the Bengals 45.9%. Every Potsdam player that played scored in the game as the Bears were led by the game high scorer Edane Barton (Spring Valley/Colgate University) who dropped 20 of his 26 points in the first half. Scott Mitchell (Brushton/North Country CC) added 17 points and went 4 for 5 from behind the arc. Jehrod Hall (Syracuse/North Country CC) had 11 points and 7 rebounds in the win.

The Bengals had 4 players in double digits with Dion Mozelle (Rego Park/Xaverian) leading the way with 20 points and Jobany Tirado (Syracuse/Corcoran) added 17 points and 11 rebounds in the loss."

Just fillin' in until thebear and beaseh get home or jdex finds an internet hookup.

Brockport 62 at SUNYIT 82
Buffalo State 81 at Potsdam 97
Fredonia 52 at Plattsburgh 76
Oneonta 69 at Geneseo 78
New Paltz 52 at Oswego 76

Those are the results.  Any eyewitness accounts?

The margins, more than the outcomes, would seem the news of the night.

Say it aint so, jdex.  It's been great to have your posts from the sunbelt. I'll  second your closing thoughts for span and the c-state crew.

Any predictions?

Friday, January 20
Buffalo State  at Brockport
Potsdam  at Fredonia
Geneseo  at Oneonta
Oswego  at New Paltz
Plattsburgh  at Cortland

Saturday, January 21
Potsdam  at Buffalo State
Plattsburgh  at Fredonia
Geneseo  at New Paltz
SUNYIT  at Brockport
Oswego  at Cortland

Based on current standings, the main event is Oswego at Cortland on Saturday night.  Likely the matchup that shakes up or solidifies the current standings.  It's the only Ows v Cort matchup, so tiebreaker implictions would seem to be big.  That said, both of those teams have to prevail on Friday for Saturday to hold the drama. And a slip up by either puts a lot of other teams in play for the top spots.

C-state holds posession of first place with 51-44 win at Oneonta.  Oswego has decisive win over a very good Fredonia team, 60-38, while NP domonates IT, 70-54.  Geneseo & Buff State win non con matchups, while Brockport falls to SJF and Potsdam loses to Clarkson, 71-60.

There's a  threeway tie for second (Gen, Broc and Oswego) which leaves things wide open, especially with Gen topping Naz in overtime (given that Naz nipped C-Sate in December).

Still have to give credit to C-state for posting 2 of its three conference wins on the road against perennial powers, Brockport and Oneonta.

So much more to come.  Gotta love it!

C-state is certainly off to a strong start.  The trio of seniors are all playing well, and getting better each game.  If the very talented juniors, soph, and frosh emulate the seniors' work ethic, C-State will likely be at the Aud, perhaps at the final game again.  Coach Yeoman's record would only add to that probability.  Still, they'll have to show up every day.  There are very few, if any, easy wins in SUNYAC anymore.

Hey all, it's time to reactivate this place.  As a long time observer of SUNYAC WBB, I'm convinced that the conference is stronger than ever.  Many more teams are contending for a spot at the Aud.  In recent years, Oswego has emerged as a new power in the league.  Ostate, Cstate, Bport and been traditional favorites with Fredonia and Gen, Buffstate too,  often there.  What are  your predictions for this year?  As you follow your favorite team, who are the ones to watch?

Jdex, thanks for the news.  I'm always amazed that I can get the scoop from you here faster than I can get results from the SUNYAC website.  Great write ups.

Hope FL is good to you and that your internet connections are better than expected.   We're all better for your reports.
