Since the 93-94 Season, HSC has this NCAA tournament resume:
1 National Championship Appearance (1999)
2 Final Four Appearances (1999, 2003)
3 Elite Eight Appearances (1995, 1999, 2003)
5 Sweet Sixteen Appearances (1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2003)
Pretty impressive, especially the 1999 and 2003 teams. Just to clarify one of Algernon's previous posts, Macon didn't make it to the Final Four in 2003, but it sure was nice having the Tiger's win that sectional in Crenshaw Gym. Nothing better than cutting down the nets in Macon's gym. But RMC has had some success in the postseason in recent history. Other than HSC and RMC, no other ODAC teams have made runs in the tournament recently.
I do think the level of play in the ODAC is down, but I don't think it's as bad as some might believe. I think the Tigers are down, but only because of relative youth and lack of depth in the post. They need a consistent post player to take some of the pressure off Kaase. I'm not worried about the HSC guards because they have plenty of talent and they'll get out of this shooting slump they are in.
I also think if VWC keeps playing the basketball they are capable of, they have the potential to go very deep in the tournament. They just have too much talent, speed, and athleticism.
Macon is playing great basketball as usual, and I believe they are the best team in the ODAC because they have two of the best post players in the league and they play great defense. However, I think they will need more production from their guards to have any success in the post season.
Those are just my thoughts about the top of the ODAC this season. Might have been a little long for a first post
