Gentlemen: I took the tape of the Potsdam-Plattsburgh game and watched the entire first half in super slow-mo and watched several of the plays over and over. I will admit that there were 3 REALLY bad calls during the half, all against Potsdam. Graney was called for a block and he must have been set for about 3 seconds at the time. Reinhardt was called for an offensive foul on a putback and it was super obvious that if there was a foul (I didn't think so) it should have been called on the Plattsburgh player and a Plattsburgh guard penetrated the lane, took 5, possibly 6 dribbles, kicked the ball out for a 3 by his teammate. Those 3 calls led directly to 7 PLattsburgh points. I will also stand by my free throw statement: Potsdam was awful at the charity stipe going 6-12 in the 1st half. Hey, take those 7 points away from Plattsburgh, make another free throw or 2 and then you'll never know......

Plattsburgh put on a shooting clinic last night against POtsdam - hitting something like 56% of their shots. Despite the hot shooting, POtsdam did tie the game with 6 minutes left in the 1st half and made a nice run with 4 or 5 minutes left in the game. However, every time Potsdam got close, Plattsburgh would hit the 3. Potsdam shot themselves in the foot as they missed 6 or 7 free throws in the last 5 minutes which could have cut the lead to under 5 on several occasions. Officiating: outstanding. Was the best officiated game that I have seen in a year or 2. Was refreshing to see that there are some good ones out there as Potsdam has gotten the bottom of the barrel these past few years.

I agree with the Bear, the Plattsburgh official was going to call a block with a few seconds left, thus sending the game in OT or giving Potsdam the win (depending on the outcome of the foul shot), but the official at mid-court came running in and called the offensive foul. That official was from Watertown. I don't know who was resonsible for the missed call at 1.2 seconds, but it was in such a spot that all 3 had to have seen it. Taft would have had to make both free throws inorder to send the game into OT, but hey, he should have at least had the opportunity as he did sacrifice his body and got plowed over by a much larger and moving player. It's no wonder the 3 officials were gone from the court as the final horn was still sounding..........

Both Tim Reinhart and Alvin Dike are battling this tough flu virus that is pounding northern NY right now. SUNYIT was much quicker than Potsdam last night. Free throw line proved to be the big difference, again. Potsdam has to take the ball to the hole as that is what is being called this year. Any Potsdam players listening?

An answer to your question Slickquick is that Plattsbugh's press hurt Potsdam and on the Plattsburgh steals many 2 on1 and 1 on 1 opportunities existed. Unfortunately for Potsdam, a foul was called on 98% of Plattsburgh's layup attempts. I give credit to the Plattsburgh guards as they went in, hurling their bodies at the defense and getting the call. They did a great job of "reading the officiating." Yes, you're right, that is quite a discrepency in F.T. attempts, isn't it?

Plattsburgh beats Potsdam by 1 in double OT. Plattsburgh jumps to a double digit lead and Potsdam fights back. Anthony Williams has a huge game for Plattsburgh with 31 points. Potsdam misses a layup with 2 seconds left in the contest. Great effort by both teams.

Very nice article regarding Troy Turner. You did a nice job Unbearable. Do have to laugh at previous postings as one of the guys mentioned that Jerry Welsh brought in a group of hoodlums to win the 2 National Championships. Troy played the game really hard and really well while at Potsdam. Since he played so hard, was he not a nice person? Looking at the rosters of the 2 championship teams, I see where many (actually almost all) of the guys are doing very well in life. Who are all these hoodlums?

Good choices at center except for Andre Peterson. He played more of a #4 man. His injury problem kept him from being the best every night. As for the #3 man, I would have to give Edane Barton a share of that position. He was at the top of the conference in both scoring and in rebounding the past 2 years. For 6'2" that is quite an accomplishment. Any word on how his pro career is going in Europe?

Yes, Tim Reinhardt was definitely bothered by the mask coving his face due to his broken nose. It was easy to see that he couldn't judge distances at all. Still hustled as usual.

Yes, what is up with the Bear? He is most interesting. I feel that Potsdam really misses Ernst Ducina more than anyone realizes as he was an outstanding defensive player who consistently guarded the leading scorer on the opposition. His 45% or so 3 pt. shot didn't hurt either. I do think that Damon Brown can become a player just like him as he has the tools, just needs the heart. As for the discussion about the academic requirements being a "little loose" at Potsdam, let's just say this: yes while the Final 8 team of 2 years ago does have 2 young men in Med School, the Conference had 2 All-SUNYAC All-Stars rejected from Potsdam due to grades. Put these 2 guys on the team and maybe we're looking at the Final 4. Then again, maybe they would have been on academic ineligibility so much that the team chemistry would have been destoyed.

Interesting how it was mentioned that Clarkson gets up when they play Potsdam and how the Clarkson guards shot so well against Potsdam. This past Saturday Clarkson was extremely lucky to beat a hustling Elmira College team at Clarkson. Actually, EC led the entire game until the final minute. EC's guards totally negated those from Clarkson. Clarkson really stuggled from the outside but their size advantage down low wore EC down. If the guards play like this again against teams from their league, it will be a stuggle all year.

Potsdam has certainly had it's hands full against Clarkson these past 2 weeks. However, this a very good Clarkson team. They are very well coached and run a very deliberate offense. For the 1st time in several years, they have an adequate bench. At 1 stretch last night they hit 7 consecutive 3's. Potsdam guards gave up 3-4 inches per man which partially contributed to the problem. Clarkson should make a run at the league title this year. Potsdam: I think you'll see them starting to rise....

Yes, Jeff Riker is the player that I was referring to. Anthony plays with lots of confidence but just didn't seem to be able to finish. I certainly shouldn't judge him much on his 8 or 9 minutes though.

Potsdam plays a nonleague game last night against Algonquin College of CAnada. Algonquin was strong at guard, not much for big men. Brandon Siskavich and Tim Reinhart were both impressive on the boards and running the court for Potsdam. Scott Mitchell played another steady game at the point, making the perfect pass at all the right times. Team will be deaper this year as last year's group of freshman have gained confidence. New kid out of Syracuse looks like he'll be a contributor by midseason.

Nick: I'm a bit confused about a statement of yours'. You stated that Barton got some cheap baskets at the end of the Cortland game when the game was already decided. I was at that game and if my memory serves me right, I remember it being a tied game with 5 minutes to go. Yes, Cortland won by 9, but they had to scratch and dig for that win. They do have a very good team. As far assaying that Bellucci had 30 and BArton 10 when they played head-to-head, that comparison can't be made as they did not guard one another. They both deserve POY, but maybe the next 2-4 games will give one of them the edge. Remember: Barton was Playoff MVP for the past 2 years, I guess that cream truly rises to the top.
