DC keeps playing like that he should be the MVP, Of course you can't play against Hamline every night. Both SMU and Hamline might want to try and play some D.

What should Jake Phillips be doing, he is a college point guard? He is very productive guard in the MIAC, but by no means is he great. Fork was great (which made it easier for Phillips, he always hits the open shot, doesn't do to much creating cause he can't) All Phillips is, is a smart, productive point guard. Which is my point, he isn't great.
Schnettler is great. What would Phillips do if teams prepare for him and tried to shut him down. I don't see Carlton being anywhere close to the team they were last year, but we will see. Teams prepare for Schnettler, and he is still a great all-around player (and has a pretty shot). If teams guarded Phillips like they try to guard Schnettler I don't think he would be as productive, he's not that good. I would take a lot of other guards to lead my team and you can have the over-rated Phillips.

Shocker:
How is Jake Phillips over-rated. "Kid has No range, no handles, no vision. Kid barely cracked the rotation on a team that lost its first 3 conference games last year." But somehow led the miac in assists per game last year, led the league in 3point percentage and was 2nd in the league in 3 pointers made 3rd in the leage in assist to turnover ratio?? also led the league in minutes per game and after the first 3 games I'd say his team did all right wouldn't you. If he is over-rated what do you think he should be doing? Personally I don't like his game, and find it hard to watch the kid but somehow he gets it done.

Birds get a win
A better test will come tomorrow, hope they find a way to play well on the road.
Schnettler: What makes a great player? I would say someone who makes his team great. Screw stats, 1 rebound whatever, did you WIN? Schnettler's team is undefeated, ranked in the top 10, and people talk about going 20-0 in the MIAC, I don't think so but, Without him highly doubtful that his team would be great. I guess he must be one of the best players in this league.

Run and Gun is more fun.
To bad it doesn't win.
How many times has Bethel beat GAC? and BU consistently has the talent.

Watchman,
More like a 100% chance. Should we open it up again about Smith's coaching abilities? What they did against Hamline is hard to do, maybe he was trying to lose.

Don't you think the stress of not losing a game all year, and being #1 will cost LU a chance to win it all? Maybe they should have lost a game or two and made a run at a title instead of a #1 ranking.

So your saying the players from SMU are there because of some Christian brothers connecton, come on. Todd Yankowski was from Pat's, one of the Christian brothers you mention. I know Todd and he didn't come to SMU because of that, he came cause Biebel recruited him.
The only two players I know of that have come to SMU because of the Christian brothers connection are David Shaw and El McClatchy: both from De LA Salle.
So using your guys logic, if Trewick never sets foot in Chicago, SMU will get good basketball players our of the area. That is the most rediculous logic. They will get some JV players though, and you know how important it is to have a top JV team
What I am saying is that you can get better players out of there, because of the connections, but you better get your ass out there and recruit them if you want to get the ones that fit your program and the ones that can play D. If your going to rely on Chicago kids to win a MIAC title you better have connections yourself to get the right players and not the David Shaw's and El McClatchy of Chicago.

The only players that are Catholic at SMU are Haywood and Smith (I believe Smith's brother is in the priesthood). No one else has anything to do with the Christian Brothers. De La Salle does send some kids because of this connection and will continue no matter who the coach, but what De La Salle, Chicago kid has ever made an impact at SMU? That's for you answer Sager. The last one here was David Shaw, do you see him helping SMU?
If you get players becuase of the Christian Brothers connection and not because you recruit them how good can they be?
I know were talking DIII, but you still have to recruit like crazy to get good players, unless your Thomas or GAC, kids just want to go there. Nobody just wants to go play basketball at SMU.

Sager,
By the way I am no expert in Chicago like you, you should have this converation with Johnny Gencius he is an expert on everything Chicago and knows every player to ever play there, too. Maybe he should be recruiting for SMU!!!
I don't know what Magette playing at Fenwick, or where Jordan's son plays has to do with SMU, great for Kloak a SMU player who played at Fenwick, I guess he played at a high school that had a stud before him. Chicgao has better basketball than Minnesota no doubt about it that is all I know.
