from my experience on cape cod [...] the weather is very fickle.
Truth. Swear to God, the radar at noon yesterday made it seem for all the world like we were going to get pummeled. And then the thing parted, and slithered to either side of us, and we played on. Not to jinx anything, but Harwich has had unbelievable weather luck, based on what the forecast looked like Wednesday morning.

Of course, 45 degrees with a 15 mile-an-hour breeze, 100% humidity, and fog last night wasn't very fun...

Quote from: ECSUalum on May 19, 2011, 11:09:41 AMDo they even have a enclosed press box at Whitehouse Field?
They do not. They are out in the elements, on top of that wooden porch you can see behind home plate, which is elevated and connected to the press box, but not covered. It's not a bad vantage point, and a terrific place to work from when it's 65 and partly cloudy, with no wind. Um...   :-\

Thanks to all -- and even to you ECSUalum, as I know you'd prefer that the regional was at the Eastern Baseball Stadium (or even that the Warriors were in the NE regional!) -- we appreciate all the kind words, both the ones posted here and the ones we've received privately. The first three days are a gigantic task to pull off, and we're working as hard as we can at the moment.

EDIT: Just wanted to be clear -- there *is* a nice, enclosed press box at Whitehouse Field, with enough room for scoreboard op, PA, official scorer, home/away SIDs, tournament hosting staff, and NCAA reps. And just to try and finesse this one even more -- often, it's actually nice to have that whole porch area to ourselves. But weather is definitely a factor.

Running out of time for fanfare today while I try to remember where all my rain gear is, but...

D3Cast, with production help from our friends at Pack Network, will have complete coverage of the New England Regional, beginning at... well, um, beginning whenever the rain stops this week (but theoretically at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday). It's been three years since we've done the regional -- the folks from Bridgewater cable access have done an outstanding job for the last two years, and the bar is still very, very high. But we're looking forward to the week, and the weekend, and maybe even Monday, who knows?

Check back on Monday for webcast information about the NE regional.

Hmm. Guess that's not going to be much of a surprise, now, is it?

Here's a local listing!  ;D

We'll have the game between Middlebury and the St. Joseph's-Bridgewater St. winner -- technically a regional final -- on D3Cast Saturday night at a few minutes before 7 p.m..

Hey, thanks to everyone for the kind words. Trying to make it look as spiffy as possible... We did have some problems with our connectivity earlier -- of course it has to be at the most crucial times -- but hopefully they're all resolved now.  My apologies to anyone who IM'd and I couldn't get back to you because we were scrambling. Great games so far...

And if you can't be on the Cape, just be near your computer, and we'll have it all for you on D3Cast.

Some quick thoughts and responses:

Hi to Bill Gorman -- it really doesn't seem like five years and one major press box expansion ago that I was waiting for the phone guy to show up at Whitehouse Field so that JumboCast could put the first phone line in its press box, to audiocast Tufts' games in the '02 regional... now the issues in the press box are WHICH wireless access point to connect to, and where we can put the TV monitor for the press box webcast feed.  ;D

Re: archiving -- as independent videocasts of NCAA Championships events have grown, the NCAA has had to develop and formalize some guidelines about rights granting, and beginning this year, they have started to explicitly specify that internet video rights to the Championships do not include rebroadcast or archival rights. (I use the word "independent" above to differentiate an entity like D3Cast from CSTV (and CSTV.com), the official broadcast partners of the NCAA.)

So technically -- and a bit of a loophole here -- the 2006 regionals are up because the NCAA never said they couldn't be. We are currently working with the NCAA -- not fast enough, I totally understand -- to try and obtain archival rights (at least for a short period of time) for these webcasts, which we feel have showcased some great Division III Championship games in a professional and pretty watchable way.

Nice drop-in by one "P. Coleman" on the DuckCast webcast(s) on Thursday night. (I know he was on the Stevens women's game -- didn't watch all the men's, but saw the fantastic finish!)

He's everywhere, I tell you. Everywhere.

Quote from: Pat Coleman on February 20, 2007, 04:48:40 PMSaturday's D3Cast games will be called by Pat Coleman and ... haven't heard yet. D3Cast will let me know at some point, I'm sure. :)
"At some point" means before tipoff, right, Pat?  ;)

Sorry for the delay -- we're honored to have Pat doing play-by-play for both games today. It'll be JumboCast's Jason Tarricone alongside for the Bates-Amherst game, and JumboCast's Steve Poon on the later-afternoon-cap. (I wrote 'nightcap', but 4 p.m. doesn't really qualify, does it?)

Been some great games in this tournament the last few years -- hope that trend continues today. Enjoy the webcasts, and feel free to let the NESCAC know if you do...

We'll likely have many football games on streaming video to choose from.

On that topic:

D3Cast is pleased to announce the introduction of two new single-game webcast packages for schools (where D3Cast handles everything) -- see more at http://www.d3cast.com/sports.

These packages are mainly intended for schools in the Northeast, but if you're elsewhere and interested, contact us and we'll see what we can put together for you.

There is video of Olson's shot online at http://www.jumbocast.com/  It feels good to see it again.
We sent it to one of the Springfield TV stations last night, and were trying to get it through to ESPN. Don't know how that turned out. Holler if you see it anywhere (besides D3hoops, of course  :)).

It was a heck of a shot -- just wish that bald guy's head hadn't been in the way. Ah, at least this way you can't see where his feet came down.  ;)

Just an amazing, amazing game, and I'm incredibly impressed (as I was in the NESCAC final) with Amherst's ability to hang in there and counterpunch. That said, they get outrebounded by 15 again tonight, and they can call it a season.

LeFrak was electric last night; there have only been a few times since the mid-80s that Tufts has gotten to play in an atmosphere like that. I dont know about mrmike, but I don't have much of a voice today.
