Oglethorpe lost today at home to Lagrange 14-7.

The Petrels still put up a good amount of runs and actually left quite a lot of men stranded today.

Like I said before I just hope that the pitching staff can put it together so the Petrels don't have to keep putting up 10+ runs to win.

It was a good 5 game winning streak that just ended. They beat some pretty decent teams (Emory, Piedmont away and Washington and Lee who Won the ODAC tournament last year)

Via Text message I have learned that Oglethorpe has defeated Piedmont today 6-2 @ Piedmont.

Oglethorpe opened up the season yesterday  and split a double header with Maryville. (yes Super Bowl Sunday...freaking rain)

Game 1:  The Petrels battled back from 0-4 in the second inning to win 8-7 on a walk off 3 run home run by the Senior Outfielder Pilger.   That home run was actually his  3rd home run of the GAME!  I pretty sure he ended up with 7 RBIs.  Thats the first time I have ever actually been at a game where someone has hit 3 home runs so that was fun.

Game 2:  The Petrels started off hot gaining a 8-1 advantage after the 2nd inning but then went as cold as you could be and gave up 15 unanswered runs.

Oglethorpe's defense was pretty sloppy for both games.  I just hope that they will put it all together in these next coming games...

Look forward to watching some more baseball this weekend as Oglethorpe plays Emory 3 times (Friday-Sunday).

I heard through the grape vine that Sarisky signed a deal with the Astros.  Being a fan of Oglethorpe baseball it hurts to lose a kid who hit 95 mph on the gun multiple times.  You just don't replace that type of arm easily or at all.

I wish Daniel the best of luck and I am very excited to follow an ex Oglethorpe baseball player throughout his professional career.

As far as what type of money her received I don't know, butt I will continue to try figure out

Daniel Sarisky from Oglethorpe was selected in the 40th round by the Houston Astros... I wonder if he stays or goes?  Either way Congrats to Bronson and Sarisky!

I just thought I'd throw out my predictions for the entire weekend

Game 1: Hendrix over DePauw
Game 2: Trinity over Rhodes
Game 3: Millsaps over Centre

Game 4: Rhodes over DePauw - DePauw Eliminated
Game 5: Hendrix over Centre -  Centre Eliminated
Game 6: Millsaps over Trinity

Game 7: Millsaps over Hendrix
Game 8: Trinity over Rhodes - Rhodes Eliminated
Game 9: Trinity over Hendrix - Hendrix Eliminated

Game 10: Trinity over Millsaps
Game 11: Millsaps over Trinity - Trinity Eliminated -  Millsaps Champions

I've seen all the East teams except for Centre this year and frankly I think the East has gotten better but I think the better bet is that the West will dominated this tournament like it always has.

I want to also congratulate  Millsaps for there number 1 ranking its pretty cool to think that number 1 team in the nation is in the SCAC.

About the only losses being in the SCAC West I bodes well to a point but even for the number one team in the nation it is hard to beat a team 5 times.  So I feel like it would make sense for their only losses to come in the SCAC West.

Neverless, Congrats to the Millsaps!

Well that breakdown isn't going to come because frankly there are way too many possibilities but I can say that Sewanee has been eliminated unless they make up that game with Oglethorpe and win but from what I hear that doesn't sound like that game will be made up but you never know.

If the Sewanee and Oglethorpe do not play than I can say with some confidence that DePauw, Rhodes, Oglethorpe, and Centre all are mathematically eligible to take the number one spot for the East in the tournament.  So this should turn out to be a crazy weekend in the east.

Hey Lou, Ain't it fun up there on the mountain.  Last year Rhode's game with them was fogged out.  That was a first!

The Lynx went to Birmingham and got just plain ol' beat in two games.  The game in the middle was not for lovers of the game.  I gave up counting errors by both teams at 12.  But at this point of the season a win is a good thing.

I was very impressed with Birmingham Southern's stadium, scoreboard, fans, fan turnout, coaching and of course their baseball team.

In speaking with other coaches, fans, prospective players, etc., they run a great program and have lots of $$$.

BS is gonna be a 2000 lb. gorilla wandering around the SCAC after they get through this reclassification thing.

Looks like the east is boiling down to the last weekend.  Haven't tried to mathematically figure it out, but I'm sure after next weekend the series that was lost due to weather in the East will be a topic of conversation with some team.

Dontknowscac, Rhodes didnt get fogged out they were clouded out and it is appearently a common problem for Sewanee home games.   I am pretty sure that I have only see one sunny and pleasent day in my three trips that I have made up to the mountain.  Fun times.

I do agree with you about BSC they are a very talented team and they just seem to hit everything but does anyone know when they will be done with the reclassification?

I was going to try give a break down on the East bracket but work appears to be getting in my way maybe more to come later.

Oglethorpe wins it's 5th straight game 2-1 against Arcadia.  Junior Pitcher John Hale went seven outstanding 7 innings only giving up 1 run and 3 hits.  He left the game when it was 1 to 1.  The Petrels scratched across the winning run due to a passed ball in the bottom of the 8th and Transfer pitcher Sarisky got the win.

I have been following the Petrels since 2004 and I am very excited to see them have this good start.  They are only three games away from the top win total for a season since I have been around.

Its also amazing to look at the East Standings and see 4  out 6 teams with winning records and then look at the West and see only one out of 5 teams with a winning record.  I know a lot of this has to do with West already well into conference games but it is just seems so foreign to me.

Sorry about that Lou as you information was much more in depth than mine.  The score was indeed 13 to 1 like you reported.

Oglethorpe beat Arcadia 12 to 1.

Hoban pitched 8 innings giving up no earned runs and had 14k's !!!!!

Kennedy pitched the ninth and struck out 3 more guys. This isn't a misprint Oglethorpe's pitching struck out 17 guys tonight.

It is so nice to see the pitching at Oglethorpe to come around.

Two good wins for OU today over a good Haverford club. A 3-2 win in game one and a 10-5 win in game two. Looks like OU is starting to get some decent pitching. They played two solid games on defense turning a few double plays and offensivley they picked up a ton of 2-out RBI's...

Lou it amazes me looking at the box score that the good pitching didn't come from what was thought to be Oglethorpe's top 3 pitchers coming into the season.  The great pitching came from Oglethorpe's starting SS Cornwell getting his first start after only pitching 4 innings before.  He went 5 dominate innings and got a little tired in the sixth and gave up the two runs.   The second game was pitched by what I guess is Oglethorpe's top reliever since he has the most appearances but this was his first start. He was able to give the Petrels I think 5 good innings to clinch the 10-5 win.

Hopefully, the two good outings that these two pitchers had will help rest of the pitching staff to come around and follow suit.  Next up for the Petrels is a three game conference weekend with Centre so it will nice to see how the the first week of eastern conference play shakes out.

Oglethorpe's game has been moved to Piedmont and scheduled to start in a few minutes (4 pm).  I was planing to stop by after work to watch the Petrels play at home at 5 but now I may be left in the dark as I looked through Piedmonts website and didnt find any place for live stats.

Does anyone know if Piedmont offers live stats?
