KENOSHA — Picked to finish sixth in the CCIW preseason coaches poll, the Carthage football team is on a mission to surprise after a mediocre 2011 campaign.

The key word for the Redmen in 2012 is "return."

Here's the articles from Carthage's two games this past weekend.  Bosko's comments after the loss pretty straight forward about how poor they are defensively and how other teams view them as soft and if things continue, they may just end up being a 15-10 team, which obviously is not the Redmen's goal this season.

Carthage beat Bethany Lutheran tonight 108-92. Crazy up and down game with a ton of fouls, both teams with probably around 30 for the game.  Close throughout the first half with Carthage trailing most of the half but took the lead going into halftime. Steve D. finishes with 35 points and 7 assists to set up a top 20 match up with John Carroll tomorrow.

Golden gear, I said I didn't know the ENTIRE story.  I know enough, and as BigPoppa stated, I will not get into that on a chat board.  Your original comment was clearly stating that you thought the assistant and some players made up some story and it got the former head coach fired.  I am also a coach, both at the high school and collegiate level, so the whole "thought you were a coach and would understand" thing you're bringing up isn't very accurate.  Lets let this all play out, and you will be eating your words stating that some assistant and easily influenced players plotted to take a coaches job away.

Goldengear what are you trying to get at here? I don't know the entire story, but it is pretty evident that CUC's previous head coach broke the law on numerous occasions, and it will be proven by overwhelming evidence in court.

Adam Smith will do a great job at CUC as the head coach.  He has ten years under his belt coaching at the collegiate level after a great playing career at Carthage, and he has shown in two years how well he recruits.  Players will love his passion for the game and the intensity he brings, and I would imagine coach Smith will be at CUC for years to come now.

Rained pretty much all morning in the Whitewater area, but not much more is expected and the Carthage/St. Thomas game is still on for 1:00 this afternoon.

I think NCC and IWU got a much better draw than Carthage. Nice for the Redmen to only have to travel an hour though I suppose.  Good luck to all CCIW teams, represent well!

Article from today's Kenosha News about the Carthage/IWU series. Also, on the front page of D3baseball.com there is a picture of Will Hodges and a recap of the series as well.

All in all, I think about what I expected for the Carthage spring trip.  With the competition they were playing, I figured they'd win 6-7 of their 10 ball games in Florida.  With two rained out, 5-3 is nothing to be upset over.  Looking at some statistics, its clear that new 1st baseman Aiello, who is talking the place of #3 hitter Lequia, can really swing the bat well.  Also, Nate Hughes had an outstanding trip.  Nate is a fifth year senior who was an all-conference middle linebacker on the football team and has not played baseball since high school.  Some key guys struggled at the plate a bit, but that is to be expected.  It appears the pitching depth may not be what it has been the past 3-4 seasons, but this years team should really be able to hit the ball well all the way through the batting order.  Looking forward to see how they do against St. Thomas and St. Johns over the weekend in the metrodome.

My guess is the Redmen will throw Perez their second game today, which is against Wooster.  He was definitely a tough luck loser in Carthage's opener, giving up only 1 earned run in 7 innings.

Carthage lost to Ohio Wesleyan this morning.  All I know is that between walks and errors, Carthage had given up 5 runs on 0 Ohio Wesleyan hits. At least that's what I was just told.

Here's the article from the paper about Chris Krepline's victory yesterday from todays Kenosha news.

Carthage wins 14-6 after falling behind early in the game 3-0 to improve to 3-2. Their losses are to the #2 and #5 teams respectively.
