Quote from: wiz on March 01, 2025, 10:25:34 PMComing from behind and controlling the second half is an indicator of superior coaching.
"Superior coaching" is now 7-8 overall and 1-3 vs Hope in the MIAA Tournament while being the favorite 3 times.
@wiz may be referring to yesterday's match. I'm just reading into the context.
I do like yore supporting Holland's coach–well done.

Quote from: pointlem on March 01, 2025, 11:04:55 PM... coaching wasn't responsible for... the 1 of 12 3-point shooting.
I didn't see Holland replicating their 1st half 6-9 (66%) 3-p shooting in the 2nd. With that quality, Holland needed to put the game out of reach, which didn't happen.

Quote from: oldknight on February 27, 2025, 03:08:22 PMBut we have a family-friendly board, and I want to keep it that way.;)
I find it odd (keeping it family-friendly) that both Championships have a 7:30 PM tip-off.
Why not back-to-back so we can enjoy each stream? (serious question for you all)

No. Never shut-up. I enjoy it too much for any limit.

Yes. This is correct thinking.

This is excellent. Thanks for your time and energy.

Quote from: sac on February 21, 2025, 11:30:29 AMReading an old message today reminds me I need a Thad Shymanski rec league update, is he dominating?
Quote from: doc on February 22, 2025, 09:55:20 PMActually ran into Thad at the Calvin-Trine game today.  He is completing his graduate studies in physical therapy, and yes, still playing in a rec league with many ex-college players (including John Teske from U of M). I assume he is dominating.
Thad Shymanski | G  one-and-done guy–pursuing his NBA dream.

Quote from: ziggy on February 14, 2025, 12:48:33 PMFor any Calvin fans wondering about a "rooting guide" as games play out down the stretch, here is what I have come up with.

Root for Calvin to win any game they play. Duh.

Root for all of Calvin's non-conference opponents to win. Again, kind of duh, but the higher up the ranks any opponent can go the better the wins will look and the less the hit taken for the losses.

In games not involving Calvin, it is probably to their benefit for Hope and Trine to not stumble again. Both teams are currently in range for the added "quality win bonus" so a loss by either would be more detrimental than a normal conference game where things "come out in the wash" with one team losing and one team winning.

It would also be beneficial for Adrian to not lose either of their games against Alma or Kalamazoo. The Alma wins are currently excluded from Calvin's resume because they are beyond the minimum wins dial and adding in those additional wins would hurt Calvin's overall NPI. That means the Alma win the other night was bad news as Calvin saw no benefit while their win against Kalamazoo took a hit. Ideally now both the games against Alma AND Kalamazoo will fall off Calvin's resume while Adrian looks a little better.

Quote from: TUAngola on January 29, 2025, 09:49:11 PMCalvin tops Trine 62-58 in a physical, defensive slugfest.
Quote from: oldknight on January 30, 2025, 12:24:04 AMThis was the most intense basketball game I have attended in many years, raising my blood pressure a notch throughout its course. Calvin's win at Hope last week was pretty intense too, but this tilt against Trine exceeded the Rivalry game I believe.
What are folks' thoughts on the officiating?
Consistent?
Was too much physical play allowed?
Did it seem like an NCAA tournament game? Where the officials allow very physical play.

Well said.

Quote from: Dutchfan on November 08, 2024, 07:45:40 PMWhy is the Hope/Calvin game not being played at Grand Valley?
Lubbers stadium seats 36,000, is conveniently located, and is not being used tomorrow.
Why would Calvin give up a home game?

Doesn't anyone post here?
Basketball rules the MIAA!?

Quote from: Flying Dutch Fan on August 19, 2024, 09:41:28 AMIf you are setting it at 12, I'll put $100 on the under right now!!

I get that it will take the Knights a while to get "up to speed" so to speak, but I don't think it will take anywhere close to that long.  Add in the fact of it being a Rivalry game and all the strangeness that can contribute, and I won't be surprised to see them win one by 2030.
Does the MIAA allow the Calvin v. Hope game to conclude the season yearly? Are there similar MIAA rivalries that could also be pushed to the final regular-season game?

Quote from: TUAngola on August 27, 2024, 05:07:57 PMMassey has Calvin with a 78% chance of winning against Oberlin.  Predicted score of 35-20.

Of course, Massey has zero knowledge about Calvin football this season or any other.

Other than being undefeated since 1876, of course.

Calvin really seems to be going all out. A passel of coaches. 120 kids on the roster.  The football building is very nice. They even hired a marching band director.

I wonder how big the scoreboard of the planned stadium will be. If it's half as big as the new soccer scoreboard, it'll be ginormous.

Calvin is all in for football. Too many necks on the line to treat it like the other sports. Plus, people are willing to donate for football quicker than other Olympic sports..
