Did you think I was dead?

Here are my thoughts on Connecticut College in 09-10:

If you look at the minutes you'll notice that Conn has five players averaging 27 minutes/game or more. After that, the next guy plays 18 min/game. Depth is a major issue. Satran would love to play a faster style(with more "sets"), but trust me he is getting the most out of what he has(Conn's motion O controls the tempo which they need to do). Conn's road effort this weekend was one of their better showings vs Trinity and Amherst. If Amherst doesn't shoot 24/26 from the line (amazing actually), the result may have been different. Conn's season has been up and down (good to see them bounce back and beat Mitchell on Monday...a cross town rival who is never very good but who has athletes and would love to beat Conn). Road wins at Hamilton and Wheaton (are they any good?) and a win at home over Springfield (average team at best, I guess?) show that Conn is capable (as does their competitive showing this weekend).
Bernier, Lampe, and Porter are all potential all-league players and frosh Rob Harrigan is really contributing, but Conn needs more athletes.

Sorry for my absence...I hope to follow a little more closely and to bring some noise to this page.

Bank Shot,
I'm a little hurt, but I'll presume you were drunk when you posted. Let me lay a few things down for you in very clear words:
1) I am a 31-year-old adult
2) I am not compelled to compare my athletic skills, with strangers, via the internet; nor am I someone who yells at other fans.
3) I mentioned being an ex-athlete to underscore the fact that "I've had my fill." For all you know, I could be talking about college athletics, Little League, Mens League, Beer League...it doesn't matter. I don't yell at other fans and I think those that do need to compete more (or should have competed more) in said "leagues."
4) Did I insult Mr. Walters?
5) Everybody loves Cinderella. When I wrote my initial post and mentioned "Middlebury kicking Amherst's ass" it was meant to stir fond memories of NESCAC 08-09 when we had a new champion. Instead, my post prompted a nauseating "if this then that" post from amh63 about how things would have been different "if this then that." What you need to know is that this is the stuff that makes people HATE Amherst. NESCAC 2009 is entirely THE YEAR OF MIDDLEBURY.
6) When I write things like "front-running towel boy," it is an attempt to sling an insult that is funny AND rated-PG. I actually felt terrible calling someone an idiot and I will refrain from doing so in the future.

I'll stop here...for now...but for one thing. DO NOT question my sports intelligence you pimple-faced, bench-warming, water-getting, chicken-choking, dust mop of an Amherst fan. I hope you close your eyes tonight and dream sweet dreams about losing to Williams.

I apologize to the rest of you for having to read this.

Walzy,
We can now be friends. I actually am enough of an athlete, or ex-athlete, to have played enough games in my day where I don't need to yell and scream at other fans. I actually hate fans of pro sports for this reason.  Rather than yell at the Amherst fans, I'd much rather berate an official who likely went into the game presuming Amherst was going to win and therefore lets them jump over the back on offensive rebounds, etc.
I actually rooted my tail off for Conn in their victory over Hamilton College last year. A lot of Hamilton guys follow Murphy and Northeastern...I follow Conn, Carolina, and the Knicks!

I'm through posting until the season starts. Thanks for taking the fun right out of this. My post was sarcastic, enthusiastic, self-deprecating and hyperbole...like all of my posts. I certainly did not invite you to tell me about fletcher Walters' father's resume. Seriously, you're an idiot.
Do you have a single thought on Bernier or Porter?
Do you really need me to admit that Amherst dominates CC on a
Yearly basis?
I cannot put into words how pathetic your post was you front-running towel boy.

Buckle your seatbelts you towel-waiving geeks, CCsalive is "back and better than ever!" Which, btw, is Mike Greenburg's morning catch-phrase on ESPN radio. Most of you Henry David Thoreous spend your mornings listening to NPR while browsing the Vienna box-scores to see if your favorite Amherst student-athlete recorded a strong asst:turnover ratio in last night's game between Straussburg AC and the Bayern Munich U-19 development squad. What's the width of the international trapezoidal lane you losers? At the the rate at which Amherst is sending it's 4-year bench-warmers to Europe to play "pro-ball," you'd wonder how the hell that got their ass whipped by Middlebury last year.

Please click on the previously listed Hamilton newspaper link to read the complete story and to understand more of the context behind Hamilton's move to full-NESCAC and exactly what types of hurdles they face. As a Hamilton alum, the move to NESCAC might re-inspire my Continental basketball roots (ie JV team). That said, it is the Camels who will hoist the NESCAC trophy this year and this is why...we have the best player in the league and his name is Shavar Bernier.
The key factor for CC is Demetrius Porter who won ROY with his head so far up his you know what it makes you wonder what he's capable of with effort.
Bring the noise fellas...CCsalive is here to rumble.

After a long lay off I am back with a few quick comments. Don't let my absence fool you. Last week I did take in 5 games in 4 days (four high school contests, one Skyline).

Congrats to Midd and to Bucket and Old Guy. Bucket, I loved the House of Pain reference and the Alexander Wolff shout out. Old Guy, I loved the Al McGuire quote...I wish I was young enough to watch and learn from him...though this clip sort of tells it all:

I'm not even a coach and I've been to a game
a day since Wednesday with two tomorrow(high school games). The Madness is amazing. I wish i could see the Panther den with so many predators (ephs and jeffs and purple cows and a Polar Bear).
My brother and parents once stumbled upon a Williams v Amherst game in 97-98 when my bro was visiting colleges. I know the Herst had jamal Wilson. I think it was at Williams and possibly an OT game, but I could be wrong.
I hope you guys all enjoy the double dip.

So, what is the exact schedule for this weekend? What day/time are the games and is d3cast going to be available?

I think I'm going to have to DVR the MAtch Play Golf and watch the games so that I can get back to being my usual sarcastic, yet deeply passionate self because I believe in a little something called a boy, a ball, and a dream...in fact those were my six words in the Golf Digest US Open Contest for 2009 you know the thing I'm talking about...last year it was a 100-word essay, but this year it's a 6 word contest plus a video, but no video from me cuz I don't even know what d3cast is and I'm only 30 yrs old. A boy, a ball, and a dream is a Dickie V line, which you guys would know if any of you watched sports!

Tonight I will be at a Skyline Quaterfinal because my first cousin plays fro SUNY Maritime. His name is Tim Dougherty and he played for the legendary Tim Leary at St. Francis Prep is Queens. LEt me tell you, the kid can play hoops and I don't mean double-pump jam 'Nique style (Old Guy-Dominique Wilkins was an Atlanta Hawk in the 1980's...he would own Bob Petit...there's a thing called youtube...type Human Highlight Film) I mean Matt Hunt, Ben Rudin, Charles Stone, Bryce Drew, Chris Herron, Adrian Autry, John Bedford, Brian Cardinal, Ernie DiGregorio...I mean he plays the " I know this game and I'm gonna slice you, dice you, and leave it all on the floor even though the man above didn't grant me NBA skills-style" that we all know and love.

Is anyone else going to a game tonight?

That's it- you're all invited to my place for March Madness.

CAN YOU FEEL IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????????

You dorks are finally starting to write with some passion! I actually laughed a little. Normally I have to re-read my own posts for a little snicker.

We need some Bowdoin chatter!
Serious question: Who would win, a polar bear or a panther? Probably a polar bear, right?

Doesn't any one have a good story?
I once played in a 3v3 tourney with a Bowdoin alum, he was probably Class of 01 or 02(I think he was a law student when I played against him). I think he was lefty. I think he tried out for the NBDL. He told me how there was a contest to see who could jump onto a 12" high box as many times in a row as possible in :30 time. He won!
I'm not making this up...anybody know who this guy is?

Cheers to Nescac.
Hopefully Colby gets to play a few more games.
I'm glad Porter showed up. I like the Camels in 2010. Surprised?
Imagining I was Ben Rudin, this is the ride of a lifetime. Was he recruited by other NESCSAC teams? Should midd win the nescac tourney; He is perhaps an all-time, all- nescac player.
I was hard on Colby; and I begged for bowdoin names. The Maine schools make this league special. If they all sucked; nescac wouldn't be the same. Bravo to Maine and it's hoops. Vermont? Even better.
Interestingly, the Centennial Conference has 10 teams. Only 5 make the play-offs.  #1 plays the 4/5 winner. If nescac decided that conn, at 2-7, wasn't worthy of any play-off, I'd understand. At the same time, the more the merrier. It's only time before D1 goes to 80+ teams.

Midd has a great gym. Should be awesome. That said, it would be better if it was at a non nescac superpower. I'd list Bowdoin as the #4 overall power with trin a close fifth.

Conn will practice until the d3 season is over. With this type oif effort; they'll one day win the league.

What a barn burner! Even Tufts could beat these teams. I made this trek because of the quality of friends and post game activities. No offense Bucket!
Old Guy- Borrow an F'ing blackberry and get me an update!

I've never heard of a "mortal lock," but I get the point.

I won't be in Middlebury tomorrow. Instead, I will take-in the Haverford v Swarthmore game, one of the better rivalrys between really bad teams!

Danilo,
I am prone to "open mouth and insert foot" disease. In trying to ruffle feathers I can sometimes write stupid things. That said, I'm thankful to churn-up some hard-line honest opinions from fans of NESCAC teams outside of Western Mass.
Thank you for admitting that Colby has to beat Bowdoin. As for Colby as a program, I meant no disrespect. Nor did I mean to dis Trinity. I only meant to disrespect Amherst, great frontrunners that they have proven to be. We'll here from them after (and only if) they win on Saturday. This type of calculus makes them successful in life, but second to Williams in my book, which is titled, "Conn College and The Great NCAA Final Four team of 1999." I recommend the book or a trip to NewLo to view the banner. In the category of What have you done for me lately, CC is thankful to be back above .500 after the fall-out that comes when your coach leaves for Div-1 and your former Women's College reverts back into its shell that is a $150 million endowment. Somehow, Coach Satran gets players who can beat Tufts (Boston mecca).
