It may be a tad early in the year to think about post-season playoff seeds but last year the # 1,undefeated D 3 team in the nation, UWW I think had to travel twice (?) in the playoffs. Now other than being totally wrong, do you think that by playing lower level teams in the early part of the season hurts their chances of post-season placement? I mean, they had to go all the way to Wesley I believe to play a game and then waxed them anyway but..does this make sense in how that schedule impacts a great team like WW? It also seemed ( or seems?) that the selection folks want to create any so-called reasonable opportunity for WW not to dominate. I would be interested in other's take on this.

If the WIAC was not in D 3 who and which conference would fill that championship(s) void in BB and FB?

ST seems to have SP's number...ST did not turn the ball over as much while SP appeared to have a bad game but that is partly because ST is a very good team. One could kind of get the feeling at half that ST was going to win this one even though Hurd's shot tied it up at the end. They are in the final 4. Congrats to them.

yes, WW proved it was the best football team despite being placed on the road but the logic of the comment doesn't hold because of a little factor called home court advantage in basketball. That is why D1 ( I know more $...) is a much more equitable plan..

Can someone explain why the SP men, who are ranked 3rd in the nation will not host any home games? Is it because the women are also ranked # 3? Is there some D 3 rule that says that both teams cannot host? I assume there is no neutral site option in D#3, but if there was ever a reason to insert that rule, it would be now. SP should be rewarded not penalized for good play. I recall in the football playoffs that WWhitewater, ranked # 1 all year long, was shipped out to Illinois and then out east for two playoff games while MT Union, who was ranked # 2 all year, hosted every game. Does anyone find this unusual at the very least and wrong? Surely one could argue that the defending champs from the WIAC in both football and basketball, need to suck it up and display that they
deserve" their rankings, but come on, this is not right...

I see that SPoint is not hosting. There was a piece that said something about the "Stevens Point" rule. Does anyone know what that means? I see that the women's SPoint team also won the conference and they are hosting. Does D3 prohibit 2 teams from the same school hosting? Doesn't it seem odd that Point, ranked # 4 in the nation would not host??

Thanks for the comment. Case in "point." ( That pun is bad I know !)...Both WW and SP played a common opponent this year in Ripon College and beat RC by a 4- game combined score of 41-8. So what does the D 3 board do? They send RC to Moline and conscously pit WW against SP for potentially the upteenth time to beat each other's brains out.... again.. We all know there is no real fairness, let alone equity, in many aspects of life, but when people have a choice in this world of D 3 baseball to at least ensure that the "best" teams in the U.S. are represented in the W series, then pull the trigger in the right direction..I feel badly for WW as I believe they would have cleaned house in their region if SP would have been sent to Moline. The decision was there to make and people made a bad one...

The WW-SP championship game won by SP 4-3 should have been seen in the D 3 W Series. I know people want to see representation from around the country but that's not what D 3 athletics should be about. It should be about the best teams making it to the W Series. SP and WW are two of the best teams in D 3 athletics and the WIAC is a powerhouse in football (champions) basketball ( champions), and in baseball but the decision -makers like to see the teams that rarely receive recognition, get to the top level, even though both WW and SP on a typical day could wipe the floor with the majority of D 3 teams. Point should have been sent to another site with WW hosting. Surely someone will say.."I told you so" if SP doesn't win it all; but that is hardly the point here, right? It's about the best teams getting in.

I see WWater and SPoint are in the same regional. Was that necessary for them to possibly meet in the regional final? Are the other regionals set up with teams from the same conference? WW has won the D# football championship. SPoint has won the D 3 basketball championship. Do people get tired of seeing these WIAC teams win thus putting them in the same region?

Looking at the story of the SP victory from an AP news piece out of Salem, VA. Interesting quote from the Williams coach>
" It;s not so much what they ( SPoint) did. It's probably more of what we didn't do.." coach Mike Maker said of the run ( by SP). I should have subbed more. I think we got a little tired and that made us a little careless offensively and not as solid offensively. But you go with the ones who got you there.."
I liked the SP coach's comment a tad bit more .He applauded Williams on their great play......hmmm

All American team- No Moses? Not even on the 4th team? Yes, DJ Marsh is a good player but on a very, very weak team. They maybe won 10-11 games this year but none against WWater or SPoint. Moses has demonstrated strong ability and should have received some recognition. . In fact, I believe Moses threw in around 33 points against Oshkosh this year in Oshkosh! I think one of the factors in the selection should be how a player integrates themselves within a winning team. Those two guys from Williams certainly demonstrate this ability. If it wasn't for Moses showing his All American ability in the playoffs Point may not have made it all the way.

30-1 ? overrated-look at their schedule. can't do it against tougher competition. That's twice now, right?

The comment about the geographic concentration of D 3 schools would, on the surface, seems to make sense, relative to Salem hosting the championships but that doesn't make it balanced. It would be similar to saying...well New York, Texas and California have laregr populations so they should all have more senators than the 2 granted to each state. In the way we arrange things in the U.S. is that Rhode isalnd has the same "voice" as California in the Senate. Surely, there are more D 3 schools in the east. So what's the point of that argument?? I am talking about a location that does NOT favor population, but geographic balance.

Had the opportunity to see the SPoint sectional championship game against IW and many people are certainly missing out on just a fantastic college basketball atmosphere. The energy from before the start of the sold-out game, from the "Pointer" mascots giving high fives to everyone coming in to the arena, to the student section dressing up and chanting, to the area citizens coming in to support the college team, is wonderful. People are focused on every play and understand subtle things like double dribble, etc. Surely good players create winning seasons which creates a flow of talent to SP but the X factor at SP is ....coaching talent. Go all the way back to a guy named Terry Porter who was a relatively unknown player from Milwaukee I believe, and the coach molded him to be a great pro NBA player.
As for where the D 3 championships are played? Get real.. Have it in the Midwest( Milwaukee?) to make it even a reflection of fairness. I think a good portion of the teams from the east play several games in Salem!! Politics?

I would guess that there are many, more private schools in D3 competition than public schools. I would guess also that a large portion of these smaller private schools are in the East so given that situation, one would then have to look at the composition of the selection committee. Are there a lot more representatives from private schools who are making these decisions? Does anyone have information on who and where those people are from on the committee? Are the "best" teams in the sweet 16. Debatable.
